On March 17, GetYourRockOut conducted an interview with vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth of New Jersey thrash metal veterans OVERKILL in Manchester, England. You can now watch the chat below.

OVERKILL will release its new album, “White Devil Armory”, in July in North America via eOne Music and in Europe through Nuclear Blast Records. The effort was tracked at Gear Recording and will be mixed by Greg Reely, who also worked on 2012′s “The Electric Age”.

“White Devil Armory” track listing:

01. Freedom Rings
02. Where There’s Smoke…
03. Pig
04. Amorist
05. Down To The Bone
06. Bitter Pill
07. King Of The Rat Bastards
08. Another Day To Die
09. It’s All Yours
10. In The Name

The cover artwork for “White Devil Armory” can be seen below.

Said OVERKILL in a statement: “We are still working on the new record, but this is gonna be worth the wait, with more old-school, face-melting thrash!”

Speaking to Steppin’ Out magazine, OVERKILL vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth stated about the band’s upcoming album: “The new record has a blend of what we’ve done over the past half decade. I’m noticing it’s a more punchy heavy metal record with more dimension than the last record had. Where is it going to end up on the food chain? I really don’t know. But my feeling is it’s an eclectic collection of moments from us. ‘The Electric Age’ came across, to me, as kind of a two-dimensional thrash record. This one is punchy but has a whole different bunch of ways to go and things to hear on it.”

OVERKILL released a very special limited tour edition of “The Electric Age” in Europe on April 19, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records. The limited 2CD tour edition included the regular album as well as a four additional live tracks on a bonus CD, recorded at The Metro in Sidney, Australia on September 25, 2010.

“The Electric Age” sold 6,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 77 on The Billboard 200 chart.

As part of Affliction‘s “Rock Star Stories” series, Jose Mangin, SiriusXM director of programming and on-air host (Liquid Metal, Ozzy’s Boneyard, Octane), recently asked TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy to share a tale from the road. Check out the clip below.

TESTAMENT‘s recent tour of Australia was the band’s first with returning bassist Steve DiGiorgio (SADUS, DEATH, ICED EARTH).

TESTAMENT in January announced the departure of bassist Greg Christian. DiGiorgio rejoined TESTAMENT as Christian‘s replacement.

Steve was previously a member of TESTAMENT on “The Gathering” (1999) and “First Strike Still Deadly” (2001) albums.

Christian was forced to leave the band’s North American tour with LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE in November 2013 for “personal reasons.” Filling in for him was EXODUS bassist Jack Gibson.

“Dark Roots Of Thrash”, a DVD/2CD release documenting TESTAMENT‘s sold-out headlining performance at the Paramount in Huntington, New York this past February, was made available on October 18, 2013 (Europe) and October 29, 2013 (North America) via Nuclear Blast Records. “Dark Roots Of Thrash” was produced by Get Hammered Productions, directed by Tommy Jones (DEATH ANGEL, KATAKLYSM, SOILWORK) and mixed by Juan Urteaga (VILE, EXODUS, SADUS, MACHINE HEAD). It captures a total of 19 live tracks with countless cams onstage and high above the audience, plus a special moshpit cam that makes you feel like you’re a part of the show.

On March 10, Polish tech death masters DECAPITATED entered Hertz Studio in Bialystok, Poland to begin recording their sixth album. The as-yet-untitled CD is set for a release in September via Nuclear Blast.

DECAPITATED‘s forthcoming effort will mark the recording debut of the band’s new drummer, Michal Lysejko, who joined the group in time for their tour with LAMB OF GOD in January.

Commented DECAPITATED guitarist Waclaw “Vogg” Kieltyka: “We would like to share few news with you.

“All you know that we’ve been quite busy lately. We had some personal changes in the band and also we did I guess the best tours we had; with MESHUGGAH, LAMB OF GOD and CHILDREN OF BODOM.

“First of all, we want to introduce you DECAPITATED new drummer Michal Lysejko. Some of you had a chance to meet him already during tour with LAMB OF GOD this January.

“Also I want to say THANK YOU to the rest of the people who took a challenge and sent their video for an audition.

“Also, since January this year, we signed worldwide management contract with Continental Concerts & Management. That’s for sure big step and opportunity for us and big challenge.

“But I guess the most important news for most of you is that after almost nine years we back to Hertz Studio (albums: ‘Nihility’, ‘The Negation’, ‘Organic Hallucinosis’) to record new album which will be released autumn this year. We will inform you about details soon.”

DECAPITATED‘s last album, “Carnival Is Forever”, sold around 2,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 11 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Carnival Is Forever” was released in North America on July 12, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD’s cover art was created by Lukasz Jaszak. The follow-up to 2006′s “Organic Hallucinosis” was recorded at Radio Gdansk Studio in Poland with producer Wacek Kieltyka and engineer Arkadiusz “Malta” Malczewski. Drums were tracked with Daniel Bergstrand (BEHEMOTH, MESHUGGAH, DIMMU BORGIR, KEEP OF KALESSIN, DEFLESHED), who also handled mixing duties.

Riff-Mag.com conducted an interview with vocalist Derrick Green of Brazilian/American metallers SEPULTURA before the band’s February 6 concert at O2 Academy Islington in London, England. You can now watch the chat below.

SEPULTURA‘s new album, “The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart”, sold around 1,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD came out on October 29, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Although it was inspired by Fritz Lang‘s classic 1927 movie “Metropolis”, “The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart” is not a concept album or a soundtrack like its precedessors “Dante XXI” (based on “The Divine Comedy”) and “A-Lex” (based on “A Clockwork Orange”).

“The Mediator Between The Head And Hands Must Be The Heart” was tracked over a 40-day period at producer Ross Robinson‘s (KORN, LIMP BIZKIT, SLIPKNOT) studio in Venice, California and was mixed and mastered by co-producer Steve Evetts, who previously worked with SEPULTURA on the “Nation” (2001), “Revolusongs” (2002) and “Roorback” (2003) albums, in addition to having collaborated with Ross on a number of other projects in the past.

In a 2013 interview with Live-Metal.net, SEPULTURA singer Derrick Green stated about the new album title: “We always have the simple one-word titles or very basic. And with this we knew what we wanted to do. We wanted to maybe make people think a little bit.

“I think we have become lobotomized, including myself, because I’m not putting myself outside of anything. I think a lot of times we live in a time where people are thinking actions or creating ideas — doing something in their head but going right to their hands. And they’re missing the essential part, the heart and the compassion, that’s behind what you are doing. And (the title) came from a movie called ‘Metropolis’ (1927) by a director called Fritz Lang, and it’s a silent movie. And it’s actually the first thing you see in the movie. And the meaning behind it is just that: It’s impossible to be human without having the heart dictate what you’re doing and why you’re doing certain things.

“So I believe this album has that passion and drive and love for music.

“So many things I’ve been hearing are just about trying to be perfect, with the digital age and trying to make everything sound perfect. Like on albums and things like that, it doesn’t even sound real. It doesn’t sound human anymore. So this is something going back to really trying not to be perfect. We’re trying to pull out that love and desire and just grabbing that moment, placing it on an album and recording it, and not being worried about those other things.”

Spirit Of Metal recently conducted an interview with guitarist Ted Aguilar of San Francisco Bay Area metallers DEATH ANGEL. You can now watch the chat below.

DEATH ANGEL‘s seventh album, “The Dream Calls For Blood”, sold 5,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 72 on The Billboard 200 chart.

DEATH ANGEL‘s previous CD, “Relentless Retribution”, opened with 2,700 units in September 2010. The band’s 2008 effort, “Killing Season”, registered a first-week tally of around 2,300. This number was in line with the performance of its predecessor, “The Art of Dying”, which premiered with around 2,100 copies back in May 2004.

Released on October 11, 2013 in Europe (except for the U.K. where it arrived three days later) and October 15, 2013 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records, “The Dream Calls For Blood” was recorded at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, AUGUST BURNS RED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, ALL THAT REMAINS, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER), and once again features cover art by Brent Elliot White (JOB FOR A COWBOY, CARNIFEX, WHITECHAPEL).

Asked how DEATH ANGEL was able to construct such fast, aggressive, brutal material for “The Dream Calls For Blood” while many of the band’s contemporaries have, to varying degrees, abandoned thrash and speed metal, DEATH ANGEL singer Mark Osegueda told Metal Blast: “I think with us we kind of went the opposite direction. We got all of the experimentation out while we were young back in the ’80s; we tried to push the envelope then and maybe pushed it a little too much. When we reformed in 2001, we were writing new material, sort of fishing a bit, not knowing which direction things would go in. Over time, we started getting on the same page a lot more. Then we lost a couple of the original members, which in turn brought us two younger players who were very hungry to play, very eager to tour, and were also much more thrash-based players. Will [Carroll] is a much more thrash-styled drummer than Andy [Galeon, former drummer], who was a much more groove-based, almost ’70s rock kind of drummer. Dennis [Pepa, former bass player] was a much more punk-derived player than Damien [Sisson] is. When Rob [Cavestany] was coming up with the riffs for the new record, he was definitely playing off those strengths. So all of that lead to us going back to our thrash roots and coming up with some of the strongest material we’ve written to date.”
