BABYMETAL, the heavy metal offshoot of the Japanese pop idol group SAKURA GAKUIN that performs a distinctly Japanese mix of schoolgirl J-pop and death metal, will release its first-ever concert DVD and Blu-ray, “Live ~Legend I, D, Z Apocalypse~”, on November 20 (Blu-ray) and October 19 (limited-edition DVD box). The set will contain footage of the band’s performances at Shibuya O-East (October 2012), Akasaka Blitz (December 2012) and Zepp Tokyo (February 2013).

A trailer for “Live ~Legend I, D, Z Apocalypse~” can be seen below.

BABYMETAL‘s “Megitsune” single was released on June 19. The song is said to combine traditional Japanese instruments with metal overtones and an enka ballad to create a festive sound. The theme of the track is “women are born actresses.” Four different versions were made available for fans to purchase: a limited “Tsu”, limited “Ki”, and a limited “Ne” edition, as well as a less expensive regular edition. The limited versions come with bonus videos from the BABYMETAL live events that were held from 2012 to early 2013.

BABYMETAL recently embarked on the “Death Match Tour 2013” and was accompanied by a “full metal band.”

In the spring of 2013, Suzuka Nakamoto graduated from junior high school and therefore had to “graduate” from the group SAKURA GAKUIN (which consists of girls of up to junior high). However, it was decided by the management that BABYMETAL would not dissolve and would continue their activities as a band.

BABYMETAL released its first major single, “Ijime, Dame, Zettai”, on January 9.

U.K.’s Total Guitar recently spoke to SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR guitarist Jim Root about his main guitar; a custom shop Fender Jazzmaster that he grew to love. Check out the footage below.

While STONE SOUR plans to take the rest of the year off, Root will perform with SLIPKNOT on October 19 in Brazil. The band will then begin putting music together for its long-awaited fifth album in early 2014.

“House Of Gold & Bones – Part 2”, the second part of STONE SOUR‘s two-album series, “House of Gold & Bones”, sold 35,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 10 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on April 9 via Roadrunner.

The “House Of Gold & Bones” albums were recorded at Sound Farm Studios just outside of the band’s native Des Moines, Iowa with producer David Bottrill (TOOL, MUSE) at the helm.

After 11 years as a member of CRADLE TO GRAVE, founding lead vocalist Greg Cavanagh (ex-BOTTOM FEEDER, FALLEN DECADE) has left the southern rock-influenced Canadian metal band. The split was amicable and Cavanagh will focus on other endeavors.

CRADLE TO GRAVE didn’t have to look very far to find a replacement; Brian “Messiah” Langley (ex-INFERNAL MAJESTY, TYRANTS BLOOD, AGGRESSION), who is the band’s second guitarist, will take over vocal duties.

CRADLE TO GRAVE will release two separate EPs on October 19: a physical one that is entitled “Dust” and one that will be available on iTunes via Year Of The Sun Records entitled “Ice”. Both EPs will feature the newest single “Ice”. “Dust” will include CRADLE TO GRAVE renditions of AEROSMITH‘s “Last Child”, NAZARETH‘s “Miss Misery” featuring Devin Townsend on vocals, and “Sufrira”, a previously unreleased CRADLE TO GRAVE track from 2006. “Ice” will feature the previously unreleased songs “Old Nick’s Blues”, “Within Forever” and “The End Of My Life”.

CRADLE TO GRAVE will perform at Funky’s Thrasherbalt in Vancouver, Brtiish Columbia on October 19 to introduce the new EPs.

STONE SOUR and SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor‘s recently published book, “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Heaven (Or, How I Made Peace With The Paranormal And Stigmatized Zealots And Cynics In The Process)”, chronicles Taylor‘s experiences with the paranormal and his quest to find an explanation for such incidents. Taylor told The Pulse Of Radio that he decided to seek out answers after too many strange things happened to him and around him. “It’s amazing what people will come up with to rationalize something that can’t be rationalized,” he said. “Look, if something has a definite, real explanation, I’m the first to go, ‘Oh, OK, that makes sense.’ But some things cannot be explained, like a thermos being thrown behind me when I’m the only one awake in the house at seven in the morning. The list goes on and on for me, you know, so it’s like, it’s time for me to start kind of figuring things out for myself.”

Taylor said he sought out insight from so-called “ghost hunters,” skeptics and religious leaders while working on the book.

“A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Heaven” landed at No. 23 earlier this month on the New York Times “Hardcover Non-fiction” best sellers list, three positions higher than his first memoir, 2011’s “Seven Deadly Sins”.

Taylor told The Pulse Of Radio recently that his next book may be a collection of columns he’s written over the past 12 years for U.K. magazine Rock Sound, while his fourth book may be his first attempt at a novel.

While STONE SOUR plans to take the rest of the year off, Taylor will perform with SLIPKNOT on October 19 in Brazil. The band will then begin putting music together for its long-awaited fifth album in early 2014.

Live Evil, the underground metal festival whose lineup is cherry-picked from Darkthrone spokesman Fenriz’s hugely influential Band Of The Week website, is back for its third outing.

Having moved from the Underworld to the Garage on Highbury Corner it will take place this year on October 19-20. This is the festival that belched the likes of Ghost BC, In Solitude and Age Of Taurus on our shores when they were still in their cult infancy, so if you want a guide to who’s going to be the next standard bearers for occult rock and metal, this is the place to start.

Already announced are Subterranea alumni and resurrected NWOBHM heroes Satan, and Satanic Ohio ragers Midnight, heavy metal doomers Arkham Witch, the not one and only but still utterly revered Chilean thrashers Pentagram, alongside the likes of Necrowretch, Zom, Ghast and more.

But Metal Hammer can announce exclusively that the next bands to be announced are Sweden’s much-fêted (and fetid) death/thrashers Vampire and Finnish hoof-tapping, gothic-tinged post-punkers Beastmilk.

This year the festival will include a mini-metal market and a late Saturday night afterparty plus a separately ticketed pre-party upstairs at The Garage with the incredible thrash duo of Norway’s Deathhammer and Sweden’s Antichrist joined by special guests. Expect further updates from metal’s furthest edge of extremity soon, but head over here for tickets and check out the official Facebook page here. Horns up!
