Linkin Park: game for it

Linkin Park have been locked in the studio working on a new studio album, and it looks like it’s packing a few surprises.

The band announced earlier this year that they were getting cracking on the follow-up to 2012′s Living Things, with Mike Shinoda recently suggesting that we might see it surface by the time they rock up to Download in June.

Now guitarist Brad Delson says that shred-happy LP warriors (erm, are there any of those?) will be very satisfied with the way the new opus is turning out.

“There’s a lot of guitar solos on the album!” he tells Music Radar. “And this is from someone who was quoted early on as saying I hated them. Not that I hated them as a listener; I just don’t want to play any; I shirked guitar solos. Early on, I felt as though the songs we were making aesthetically didn’t want them. This new batch of songs, to me, always want solos. I feel like every song has one.”

Brad also explained why the band decided to drop a new single so soon after announcing that they were in the studio, noting: “We wanted to get music out sooner than later. The timing just felt right with this song. We finished two songs relatively early in the process, and Guilty All The Same seems to inform the spirit of the record. For us, it’s the perfect lead offering to set the tone for the album as a whole.”

Expect that album to land around summer time. In the mean time, catch the rock heavyweights playing their seminal Hybrid Theory debut in full at Download in June.

Killer Be Killed: fine pedigree

Killer Be Killed have unveiled the cover art for their self-titled debut album.

The band, featuring Max Cavalera, Mastodon’s Troy Sanders and Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato, will release the opus on May 12 via Nuclear Blast.

California rockers TESLA last month entered the studio to record eight or nine new songs, to be included on the band’s forthcoming album.

Says TESLA guitarist Frank Hannon: “I must say that this new TESLA album is really gonna be awesome.

“We went in more prepared with the songs and ideas way more than ‘Forevermore’, and the style is pure TESLA back to our roots.

“The band is working and producing it as we did ‘Into The Now’… with help from the legendary Tom Zutaut, who helped us make our best albums.

“The title of the new album is gonna be ‘Simplicity’ and I truly believe you guys are gonna love it!”

He added: “The opening track is called ‘MP3′ and starts off with an opus intro that orchestrates into a heavy slow groove with lyrics about technology and how we miss simplicity, vinyl albums, family values… and has a heavy-ass riff! Then we segue into a rock and roll song called ‘Ricochet’ that talks about Uncle Ted

“Can’t wait to play this stuff live!”

A new TESLA song, “Taste My Pain”, was released last summer via iTunes and Amazon. The track was recorded during a two-day (June 5-6, 2013) session at J Street Recorders in Sacramento, with plans to include it on the upcoming CD. According to the group, “It’s a heavier song with a hard-driving beat and TESLA trademark blazing guitars.”

TESLA‘s latest album, “Twisted Wires And The Acoustic Sessions”, was released in July 2011 via Scarlet Records. The CD featured six songs that were recorded back in 2005 at bassist Brian Wheat‘s J Street Recorders studio — which also served as the last recordings with original member Tommy Skeoch — and six newly recorded tracks, including acoustic remakes of songs from TESLA‘s entire catalog and two brand new songs, “Second Street” and “Better Off Without You”.

TESLA released a live album, “Alive In Europe!”, in Europe on April 23, 2010 via Frontiers Records.

TESLA‘s latest studio album, “Forever More”, sold more than 16,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 33 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on October 7, 2008 on Tesla Electric Company Recordings. The European version of the album, which was made available on November 7, 2008 via Frontiers Records, contains two bonus tracks not found on the American version.

Professionally filmed video footage of Swedish occult rockers GHOST performing the song “Secular Haze” live on May 11 at Webster Hall in New York City can be seen below.

A nameless ghoul stated: “Playing in New York will always feel very special for us, since it was the first city in the U.S. that embraced us. Every time we play there, it marks another step up for us — going from filling up the basement at Webster Hall, to filling up the Bowery to finally play at sold-out Webster Hall. We simply love New York.”

GHOST‘s sophomore album, “Infestissumam”, sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 28 on The Billboard 200 chart.

The CD topped the official chart in the group’s home country after selling nearly five times as many copies as the No. 2 album, MISS LI‘s “Wolves”.

In a recent interview with ARTISTdirect, a nameless ghoul from GHOST said about “Infestissumam”: “It feels way more theatrical and bombastic. In many ways, ‘Infestissumam’ is thematically a continuation of where [the debut album] ‘Opus Eponymous’ began. Whereas a lot of the thematic ideas we have in mind for upcoming albums might differ a little bit and will go in another direction. That’s not to say we won’t sing about the things we do and not have makeup. I’m just saying it will evolve into other things in the future. On this record, I feel like we’re doing a lot of things we intended to do on the first naïvely being we could pull off a show like that at that point — which we couldn’t. Now, we have a little bit more muscle. The attendance is probably more in accordance with being able to present a show like that.”

Regarding the lyrical themes covered “Infestissumam”, the nameless ghoul said: “Thematically we knew the major difference between the first and the second albums as much as we do between the second and the third. It’s a bit ironic now. Jumping up to the contemporary controversy with our album artwork and the refusal of printers to print the art is funny because the whole record is about the presence of the devil. Obviously, it’s about how mankind relate to the presence of the devil. Historically, it’s always been the female body that has taken the fall for that, which is what happened in this case. The problem was a vagina in the art not the inverted crosses.”

GHOST was forced to modify its name in the U.S. to GHOST B.C. for “legal reasons.”

Korn: together again

Nu metal legends Korn return with new album The Paradigm Shift on October 7 via Prospect Park/Caroline International, with the opus serving as the first new Korn album to feature long lost guitarist, Brian “Head” Welch, in ten years. Yes, that’s ten whole fucking years.

The Boys From Bakersfield have filmed a documentary detailing some of the behind-the-scenes action from the album sessions, as well as elaborating on the story behind Head’s incredible return. It’s titled Korn: Reconciliation, it’s going to come on a DVD included in the special edition of the new album, and we have a teaser taken from the film right here! Pretty cool, right?

Zakk Wylde: willing to pay respects to his fallen brother

Zakk Wylde has addressed longheld speculation that should the surviving members of Pantera ever perform together again, he could be the man to step in on guitar duties.

“It’d be up to Vinnie, Phil and Rex — they’re the guys that make everything happen,” he tells Artisan News. “So if they were all gonna do it and honor Dimebag and [if they said to me], ‘Zakk, would you wanna honor Dime and do Dime’s parts?’ Of course, I was a pallbearer for him — I laid him to rest — so, of course, I’d say, it would be a beautiful way to honor him and stuff like that. And to celebrate all things Pantera and what they achieved. ‘Cause they changed the game, as far as extreme metal goes. I mean, they’re the kings of it. But it’s up to the fellows. Then it would just be me woodsheddin’ 25-8, learning all of Dime’s parts, you know what I mean?! Yeah, but like I said, as far as I’m concerned, it would just be honoring Dime.”

Meanwhile, Black Label Society have finally begun work on the follow-up to 2010′s awesome Order Of The Black, with Zakk confirming that the riffs are now officially a-flowin’.

“It’ll have all the heavy riffs and other stuff everyone knows and loves,” Wylde promises Billboard. “Order Of The Black was already three years ago, which is pretty insane. But the whole time we’ve been working, touring and stuff like that; it’s not like we’ve been sitting around the house. It’s crazy because back in the beginning of Black Label we were pumping out an album a year and constantly touring. But don’t mind doing it this way, either.”

BLS are set to release Unblackened, a special collection of live acoustic re-imaginings and a couple of covers, this week. The opus includes an awesome acoustic cover of Bill Withers classic Ain’t No Sunshine, complete with bonkers video:
