While it was briefly mentioned in passing in a recent article, Ludicra has official split and offered this short statement on the matter:

“The door is officially closed on Ludicra. It was a great trip, but all things have their end. Alternative Tentacles was an early supporter of Ludicra, and we appreciate their faith and their help to achieve what we could with out little rock band. Thanks.”

Ludicra notably featured Aesop Dekker on drums, who also drums for Agalloch and Worm Ouroboros.

For a limited time, Alternative Tentacles is taking $2 off of both formats of 2006′s classic “Fex Urbis, Lex Orbis.” All orders will also receive a poster. Their previous A.T. release, “Another Great Love Song” is still available online through either iTunes or emusic.

While France basks in the glow of international acclaim for their various forays into original mediums of metal, there is a much darker portion of the French metal scene…black metal. Black metal in France has always enjoyed strong underground notoriety, yet has seemingly always stayed out of the limelight for the most part. However, with the extraordinary efforts of many of their countrymen, black metal acts such as Nyeius are starting to show that they have a place in the world of international black metal to0.

While Nyeius may not be knocking down everyone’s door in the metal media like Gojira or Alcest, they are  more than competent at creating competent music, unfortunately, they are dreadfully unoriginal. Riff after riff is standard issue black metal that can be likened to mid Dimmu Borgir, Judas Iscariot and Darkthrone, and when I say standard issue, I mean borderline rip off. If you listen to “Transylvanian Hunger” and compare it to some of the songs on Militiae you’d almost laugh at out similar they are. Militiae is essentially an album to prove why black metal is repetitive crap; while I don’t believe that assessment, it’s hard to argue someone’s point that black metal is an irrelevant genre of carbon copy riffs when you compare Nyseius to just about any of the classics.

I don’t want to bash this thing too hard, because as a stand alone album with no references to previous works, it stands up critically, however, this is the world of metal, where every new album MUST be compared to previous albums because of our die hard loyalty to the music. Nyseius aren’t posers or whatever word you want to throw out, but they are most certainly not original, and I most certainly won’t be listening to Militiae again any time soon.
