On March 17, GetYourRockOut conducted an interview with vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth of New Jersey thrash metal veterans OVERKILL in Manchester, England. You can now watch the chat below.

OVERKILL will release its new album, “White Devil Armory”, in July in North America via eOne Music and in Europe through Nuclear Blast Records. The effort was tracked at Gear Recording and will be mixed by Greg Reely, who also worked on 2012’s “The Electric Age”.

“White Devil Armory” track listing:

01. Freedom Rings
02. Where There’s Smoke…
03. Pig
04. Amorist
05. Down To The Bone
06. Bitter Pill
07. King Of The Rat Bastards
08. Another Day To Die
09. It’s All Yours
10. In The Name

The cover artwork for “White Devil Armory” can be seen below.

Said OVERKILL in a statement: “We are still working on the new record, but this is gonna be worth the wait, with more old-school, face-melting thrash!”

Speaking to Steppin’ Out magazine, OVERKILL vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth stated about the band’s upcoming album: “The new record has a blend of what we’ve done over the past half decade. I’m noticing it’s a more punchy heavy metal record with more dimension than the last record had. Where is it going to end up on the food chain? I really don’t know. But my feeling is it’s an eclectic collection of moments from us. ‘The Electric Age’ came across, to me, as kind of a two-dimensional thrash record. This one is punchy but has a whole different bunch of ways to go and things to hear on it.”

OVERKILL released a very special limited tour edition of “The Electric Age” in Europe on April 19, 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records. The limited 2CD tour edition included the regular album as well as a four additional live tracks on a bonus CD, recorded at The Metro in Sidney, Australia on September 25, 2010.

“The Electric Age” sold 6,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 77 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Elliot Paisley of EQPTV recently asked KREATOR mainman Mille Petrozza about the possibility of an expansion of the “Big Four” of thrash (METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX) that would also include KREATOR. You can watch what Mille has to say below.

In a recent interview with Radio.com, MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine was asked which band should be included if the “Big Four” (METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX) were expanded and considered the “Big Five”. Mustaine said: “You know, people will say there’s a whole another generation, like the ‘Medium Four’ [laughs], and I think there’s a lot of great bands that fit that bill, too. But I think probably EXODUS, because there was nobody else at the time that had that kind of pull or that kind of importance in the metal community. Granted, it was with [late EXODUS singer Paul] Baloff, and Baloff had a voice that you had to have an acquired taste for, but you know, I liked him.”

Speaking with Metal Asylum, EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt was asked if he felt the “Big Four” should have been expanded and considered the “Big Seven”, including EXODUS, TESTAMENT and OVERKILL. “Well, I think it should be the ‘Big Five’ with EXODUS, because we were there at the start of thrash metal with METALLICA in the real early ’80s,” he said. “Same thing with MEGADETH because [Dave] Mustaine was a part of METALLICA‘s birth and he also created MEGADETH. And SLAYER are SLAYER. ANTHRAX are also great and old friends, but if you listen to those first few records, they have definitely changed. TESTAMENT has every right to be part of the thrash metal legends, but it just came down to timing because they came later. And OVERKILL have been their since the beginning also. But I don’t get hung up on that shit, because I know how it all started and I know where I was when the shit got created. We [EXODUS] certainly deserve to be part of the founding fathers, but you know who often gets excluded are the Germans — KREATOR, DESTRUCTION and SODOM. Everybody looks to America and forgets those guys. KREATOR, DESTRUCTION and SODOM all released records in the early ’80s.

New Jersey thrash metal veterans OVERKILL will enter the studio on Monday, September 2 to begin recording their next album for a March 2014 release. The CD will be tracked at Gear Recording and mixed by Greg Reely, who also worked on “The Electric Age”.

In a recent interview with Radiosuicide Photography‘s RSPTV, OVERKILL vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth stated about the band’s plans for the coming months: “There’s six songs done [for the next record so far]. What we’re gonna do in the interim is we’re gonna come over while recording and do European festivals. After that, we do a U.S. tour with the German band called KREATOR. It’s gonna be a flip-flop headline; we’ll close the shows on the East Coast in those theaters and they’ll close on the West Coast in theaters, or big clubs. After that, we drop the record in March, it hits the street. They even gave me the date as March 7 already, so we’re that far planned ahead for those type of activities. And after that, I’m sure that what we’re gonna do is just start rolling these tours again. And I think that as we’ve gotten older, one of the things that we like is that we actually do more tours, but we do less touring; we’re not away from home for three months or sixty days, we’re away from home for three or four weeks. Three weeks is a great tour for a guy my age. Because then you don’t have to recover for a month when you come home. [laughs]”

As previously reported, OVERKILL released a very special limited tour edition of its latest album, “The Electric Age”, in Europe on April 19 via Nuclear Blast Records. The limited 2CD tour edition includes the regular album as well as a four additional live tracks on a bonus CD, recorded at The Metro in Sidney, Australia on September 25, 2010.

“The Electric Age” sold 6,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 77 on The Billboard 200 chart.

“The Electric Age” was recorded and mixed at Gear Recording Studios in New Jersey, owned and operated by OVERKILL bassist D.D. Verni.

To honor and celebrate Record Store Day on April 20, Nuclear Blast and OVERKILL released a limited-edition 10-inch copper-colored vinyl in gatefold containing four live tracks recorded at The Metro in Sidney, Australia on September 25, 2010.

OVERKILL was forced to drop off the “Dark Roots Of Thrash” tour with TESTAMENT in February due to Ellsworth‘s bout with pneumonia.
