The as-yet-unnamed project featuring Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, ex-SEPULTURA), THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN frontman Greg Puciato, Dave Elitch (ex-THE MARS VOLTA) and Troy Sanders (MASTODON) has entered Fortress Studio in Los Angeles, California with producer Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA) to begin recording its debut album for a 2014 release.

Talking to U.K.’s Terrorizer magazine en route to the studio yesterday, Max said: “It’s going to be cool. We just don’t have a name yet. The name is a pain in the ass to find a name, but the music is great. We have been working on this for two years.

He continued: “Greg approached me kinda like how Alex [Newport; FUDGE TUNNEL] approached me to do NAILBOMB in that he was really, really trying to get me to do this project. I told him already I was pretty busy doing SOULFLY and CAVALERA CONSPIRACY [and] I was not really looking for an extra thing, but he was pretty insistent and then I just gave up and was, like, ‘Let’s fucking do this!’

“It started with just me and Greg and then we got Dave Elitch — he’s an amazing drummer — and then Greg knew Troy and we asked him to be the bassist so it kind of became a supergroup all of a sudden. We jammed a couple of times and the last jam we did it sounded killer; the songs are really powerful real heavy. It’s hard to describe but I think the coolest thing about this project is that all three of us are going to sing on every song.”

Earlier this year, Puciato told Noisecreep about how the project started: “We were at a DEFTONES show in L.A. at the Palladium and we were talking backstage about old thrash metal, punk and hardcore and we found ourselves referencing many of the same things and we were like, ‘Fuck, man, we should make a record together and do it as a one-off like NAILBOMB.’ A month later, I talked to Max again and he said we should actually do that.

“No one in metal makes collaborative records like people in jazz and hip-hop do. It doesn’t have to be like a band that you’re launching from the ground that you go on tour with. There is something to be said for collaboration and throwing yourself out there and learning something new from working with different people. Dave was a buddy of mine already and he’s a phenomenal drummer. He was the first person I thought of to play drums.

“We [DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN] spent a lot of time touring with MASTODON and Troy seemed like a really obvious fit. We had a really easy time writing. We can’t release it right behind the DILLINGER record and we also have to figure out when the MASTODON record is coming out and the same for whatever Max is doing next. It’s going to come out. It’s just going to be a matter of logistics as to when.”

Finnish melodic death metallers Insomnium return to North America in October for a tour with Epica, Alestorm, and System Divide. In anticipation of this trek, the band is partnering with AOL Noisecreep to premiere a video for the title track off latest album, “One For Sorrow” (reviewed here).

Watch the video – a live recording from the Wacken Open Air and Tuska Open Air festivals – through Noisecreep or in the player below.

Vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen comments: “‘One for Sorrow’ is one of the best songs Insomnium has ever done. It stands out as a unique kind of track and it clearly deserves a video of its own. It’s not your typical melodic death metal song but something else: the essence of the song is not its pace or brutality, but its haunting and melancholic atmosphere. And that mood might be much heavier than any blast-beat onslaught you can create…

“The video for ‘One for Sorrow’ was filmed at Wacken Open Air and Tuska Open Air this summer. The atmosphere at both these shows was absolutely amazing, and I hope this live video conveys the feeling that we were really enjoying our time on stage…After a busy summer and a short break, it now feels good to get touring again. We’ve been waiting for five years since our last North American tour and finally we have the chance to keep conquering America. We’ll be all around the continent, and it will surely be a great tour for everyone. See you soon!”

Canadian metalcore act Obey The Brave is now streaming the band’s Epitaph debut in full with plans to release the album, “Young Blood,” on August 28th. Fans can stream the album through here. The following press release was issued about the album:

“The new album contains eleven tracks of pure adrenaline – charged hardcore, sure to please both metal diehards and hardcore fans alike. Tracks like ‘Get Real,’ which features Terror’s Scott Vogel on guest vocals, pay homage to ‘90s hardcore while peppering in more modern elements like massive metalcore breakdowns and an always-driving beat. ‘Time For A Change,’ while still including hardcore staples like riotous gang vocals and another of the album’s brick-and-mortar breakdowns, showcases some smooth lead lines during its more melodic outro.

“‘Live and Learn,’ the album’s first single, is a well-rounded representation of Obey The Brave’s bare bones, progressing from blistering double-kick blasts throughout its opening verse to some tasty breakdowns and another rather musical outro that adds an extra dimension to an otherwise relentless track.”

Fans can pre-order the album by going to this location, and the band’s upcoming tour dates are as follows:

8/20 Baltimore, MD @ Sonar
8/21 Norfolk, VA @ The NorVa
8/22 Atlanta, GA @ The Masquerade
8/24 Houston, TX @ House of Blues
8/25 San Antonio, TX @ Backstage Live
8/26 Dallas, TX @ Palladium
8/27 McAllen, TX @ Pharr Events Center
