RockNLive.org recently conducted an interview with MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee in Paris, France. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked how MOTÖRHEAD‘s 21st studio album, “Aftershock”, compares to the band’s previous releases, Dee said: “You know, I hate when bands say, ‘Our new album is the best one we’ve ever done.’ I think it’s a cliché, it’s boring to hear, and I switch to the next channel. ‘Cause I think it’s bullshit. And we never say that with MOTÖRHEADever. I say that we’ve made a new record that it feels like it’s a good contender, maybe, but I need way more time to feel if this is one of the better albums we’ve done. But with ‘Aftershock’, I think at least it felt very, very good. And now when it’s finished, it feels better than I felt in a very long time with the songs. So I really hope that this album is gonna grow even more on me. But it feels like a great album. But I can’t say it’s the best. People want us to say, ‘Oh, it’s the best album,’ or, ‘It’s a bad album.’ I don’t know yet.”

“Aftershock” will be released as a an official Classic Rock collectors fanpack that features the new LP in full plus a 132-page magazine that forms the “ultimate sleevenotes” to the new release, with extensive and exclusive interviews with Lemmy, Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell.

Due in North America on October 22, “Aftershock” was recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, California and is described in a press release as “a true leveler, a crushing confirmation of everything MOTÖRHEAD stands for, marching from the dust storm to deliver 14 belting statements which see MOTÖRHEAD in perhaps their best writing form for years. There’s swagger, there’s punch, there’s speed and there’s dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that MOTÖRHEAD is not simply a band, it’s a genre!”

“Steal it if you must, buy it if you can!” says Lemmy, whose pride in the album is so immense that guests to his home and dressing room in the last couple of months have been treated to extremely loud airings of the rough mixes, while Phil Campbell adds, “I really think the variation on the album shows that we’ve dug deep and produced some of our best work for a long time.”

MOTÖRHEAD canceled a handful of shows on its European festival tour last month after Lemmy suffered a haematoma (where blood collects outside of a blood vessel). The news of Lemmy‘s latest medical issue followed reports that he was also recently fitted with a defibrillator because of heart problems.

On September 16, Louder! Magazine conducted an interview with drummer Mike Portnoy (THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB) after THE WINERY DOGS‘ headlining concert La Maroquinerie in Paris, France. You can now watch the chat below.

THE WINERY DOGS‘ self-titled debut album sold around 10,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 27 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released in North America on July 23 via Loud & Proud Records and in Japan on May 15 via Victor Entertainment, the CD was mixed by Jay Ruston, who has previously worked with ANTHRAX, ADRENALINE MOB, STONE SOUR and STEEL PANTHER.

“Bands like [LED] ZEPPELIN and THE WHO, THE [ROLLING] STONES, and THE BEATLES, CREAM, and [Jimi] Hendrix. I mean, I grew up with that stuff,” Portnoy told Voice Of America. “And, although I’ve been able to pay tribute to it throughout my career with tribute bands and things like that, I’ve never been in an all-original band that was kind of playing classic rock power trio stuff. That’s how I describe this band: just a straight-up rock band.”

Regarding the songwriting process for THE WINERY DOGS‘ album, Portnoy said: “In all cases, the music was the very first element and from there, Richie would start melodies on top of it. Sometimes the final lyrics were there, coming up on the spot, and other times he would take the melodies and write lyrics later. There were a couple of examples of Richie having something and bringing it in. In those cases, like ‘Damaged’ and ‘Regret’, we just left them. Because in those two particular cases, the songs were great as they were.”

Portnoy was full of praise for his THE WINERY DOGS bandmates, telling Voice Of America: “Billy Sheehan is my favorite bass player on earth and he has been for almost 30 years now. So to work with him and make music with him for me is an honor. And Richie is someone I have the utmost respect for as an artist. I mean, he is just so underappreciated, not only as a guitarist, but as a singer and a writer as well. I think for me, the most exciting aspect of this band is for people to discover Richie that aren’t aware of what a musical genius he is.”

Watching Machine has uploaded video footage of THE ANSWER‘s recent two-song acoustic performance at the Hard Rock Café in Paris, France. Check it out below.

THE ANSWER‘s fourth studio album, “New Horizon”, which features mixes from rock icon Mike Fraser (AC/DC, METALLICA), will be released on September 27 in Europe and October 1 in North America via Napalm Records.

Since its third studio album in late 2011, THE ANSWER iinstigated a major shakeup in its circumstances and with new management, live booking agents and with new record label on board, late 2012 saw them enter the studio with ex-LITTLE ANGELS vocalist Toby Jepson at the production helm.

The band was honored and privileged that the late Storm Thorgerson and his team designed the artwork for “New Horizon” and Storm was working on the album cover design just before his sad passing. In a statement released by Storm Studios, they said: “Never one for looking back or resting on his laurels, Storm always got a thrill from working with young bands and from the idea of ‘newness’ in general. In his last few months, Storm and the Storm Studios team threw ourselves wholeheartedly into many new projects and ‘New Horizon’ was one of the last covers we designed together. As is our usual modus operandi, we interrogated the band at length about their music and lives, and listened to the album on repeat for a month. Our final designs were submitted to THE ANSWER very shortly before Storm died. The image itself came from our thoughts about endings and new beginnings, very poignant for all concerned.”

THE ANSWER consists of Cormac Neeson (vocals), Paul Mahon (guitar), Micky Waters (bass) and James Heatley (drums) and their U.K. tour will kick off in Belfast on October 11. Australian band TRACER will perform as very special guests on the U.K. mainland run in what promises to be one of the finest rock tours at the end of 2013.

Watching Machine recently conducted an interview with guitarist Jason Hook of Las Vegas metallers FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH in Paris, France. You can now watch the chat below.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has unleashed a game-play video for its new single, “Battle Born”. The action-packed clip, which was created by Machinima director Jackfrags and based on the popular “Battlefield 4” video game, can be seen below.

“The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 2”, the second half of a two-record set, is due to arrive on November 19 via via Prospect Park in North America and Eleven Seven in all other territories.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH frontman Ivan Moody explains the meaning behind “Battle Born”: “After getting off the road from two years of touring, I was physically and emotionally drained. It felt like I’d seen almost every inch of the globe and shook every hand there was to shake. I completely lost track of time, the flights, the travel, the shows all seemed to blur together. My family and friends became a distant memory. Even though I was doing what I’d dreamed of doing, it took all the energy that I had… it was exhausting. That made me realize, everything worth fighting for you will actually HAVE TO fight for. Every wish, every dream, every idea comes to existence only through blood, sweat and sacrifice… We are all battle born.”

“The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 2” track listing:

01. Here To Die
02. Weight Beneath My Sin
03. Wrecking Ball
04. Battle Born
05. Cradle To the Grave
06. Matter Of Time
07. The Agony Of Regret
08. Cold
09. Let This Go
10. My Heart Lied
11. A Day In My Life
12. House Of The Rising Sun

Even though the band recorded two albums worth of material this time around, singer Ivan Moody told The Pulse Of Radio he’s not a fan of working in the studio. “No, I don’t spend a lot of time in the studio, man,” he said. “I truly don’t. I’ll be in there when I have to. I hate the containment, I can’t stand the schedule crap. The monotony drives me frickin’ crazy, you know, ‘Do it again, do it again, let’s try that again,’ and it’s just, it’s so frustrating to me. Sitting in the booth and feeling like, basically it’s just a cold, dead coffin, and a lot of the time people want to know why my lyrics are so angry — that has a lot to do with it.”

The first half of “The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell” came out on July 30 and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard album chart, selling 113,000 copies in its first week of release.

The first single from “Volume 1”, “Lift Me Up”, featured JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford and hit the top of the rock radio chart.

“Volume 1” has sold more than 224,000 copies to date. FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH‘s three previous albums have all gone gold for sales of 500,000 copies or more.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will kick off a North American fall tour at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, California on September 15.

On August 13, Metal Sickness conducted an interview with KORN guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer in Paris, France. You can now watch the chat below.

KORN‘s 11th album, “The Paradign Shift”, is due out on October 8. The follow-up to 2011’s “The Path Of Totality” features the return of guitarist Brian “Head” Welch to the lineup after more than eight years away. His last album with the band was 2003’s “Take A Look In The Mirror”.

With a single, “Never Never”, released last month, singer Jonathan Davis told The Pulse Of Radio what the experience was like having Welch back in the studio, making this record extra special.

‘Untouchables’ used to be my favorite, but this one’s mine now,” he said. “You know, it’s just all those years of work and being able to be in a band this long with the guys. And having Head back bringing, you know, that old chemistry back with him with Munky on the rock side and I was on the electronic side. It was good having the compromise on both sides. It was just good for the creative process, I think.”

Other songs on the new set, which was recorded with producer Don Gilmore (LINKIN PARK, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, LACUNA COIL) at Buck Owens‘ studio in KORN‘s original hometown Bakersfield and at Los Angeles’s famed NRG Recording Studios, “Prey For Me”, “Spike In My Veins”, “Mass Hysteria”, “Paranoid And Aroused” and “Victimized”.

The deluxe version of “The Paradigm Shift” will contain two bonus tracks and a 60-minute documentary chronicling Head‘s return to the band produced by the band’s behind-the-scenes “filmographer,” Sebastien Paquet.

In 2014, KORN will celebrate its 20th anniversary as recording artists.

Davis also revealed that he is doing just fine after discontinuing the use of anti-anxiety medicine he had been taking for many years.
