Jason McCash, bassist, co-songwriter and co-lyricist for Indianapolis doomsters THE GATES OF SLUMBER, has announced his departure from the band. He says: “It’s nothing at all against Karl [Simon; vocals, guitar] and Bob [Fouts; drums] but I think it’s something I have to do at this time. I really hope and wish the best for them and the group.

“I am not done with music, though I’m leaving THE GATES OF SLUMBER, as I have a whole album’s worth of material written that was suppose to be part of the next THE GATES OF SLUMBER album that I very much want to see come to life. The material that I have are still in the the same vein as in songs like ‘Death March’, ‘Dragon Caravan’ and ‘Day Of Farewell’. I plan on still bringing these songs to life, but it just wont be under the THE GATES OF SLUMBER banner.

“I’ve spent a massive portion of my life in this band. Living it, cultivating it, breathing it and loving every moment in it. I will miss it and I do look back on what I’ve helped create with a very proud heart.

“I am sorry for this to happen but it is just time for me to leave. ”

THE GATES OF SLUMBER‘s “Death March” video can be seen below. The song comes off the band’s “Stormcrow” EP, which was released on January 29 via Scion Audio/Visual, (a.k.a. Scion A/V), the in-house record label and lifestyle marketing division of the Scion marque produced by Toyota Motor Corporation for the North American market. The CD was recorded by Sanford Parker and it features cover artwork by Dave Quiggle.

THE GATES OF SLUMBER last year parted amicably with drummer J. Clyde Paradis, who recorded and toured behind the 2011 album “The Wretch” (Rise Above Records).

THE GATES OF SLUMBER started in 1998 as a backlash against the stoner rock trend prevalent at the time and with their mixture of BLACK SABBATH, SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM, and prime-era CELTIC FROST, the band has crushed or converted unbelievers ever since.

“The Wretch” was released in May 2011 via Rise Above/Metal Blade. The CD was recorded at England’s Orgone Studios with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano (GHOST, ANGEL WITCH).

– August 29th, 2013 – Rising out of the same Maryland/DC mean streets as fellow US doom pioneers Pentagram and The Obsessed, Iron Man was formed in 1988 as a Black Sabbath tribute band by guitarist Alfred Morris III, whose musical career began in 1977 with mysterious proto-doom cult FORCE. Al’s legendarily heavy, unearthly guitar tone was already much in evidence on FORCE’s ultra-rare 1981 debut EP – and it has only deepened, hardened, improved and refined in the ensuing 32 years.

Century Media Records has announced the first-ever official “complete recordings” release of TREBLINKA, one of most notorious death/black metal bands of all times.

TREBLINKA was founded in 1987 by Johan “Lucifer Hellslaughter” Edlund and Jörgen “Juck the Ripper” Thullberg. During the band’s short existence of only two years, TREBLINKA released two demo tapes and one seven-inch EP. After the release of the last recording, the now infamous “Severe Abominations” EP, the band changed its name to TIAMAT and became one of the biggest and most influential metal bands of the Nineties. Since then, the TREBLINKA recordings remained untouched by the band and were instead heavily exploited by bootleggers all over the world.

“Shrine Of The Pentagram”, the first-ever fully authorized release of TREBLINKA since 1989, will be released on October 7 as a kingsize 3CD mediabook, a deluxe 5LP box set with LP-sized booklet as well as digital download.

Daniel Ekeroth, author of “Swedish Death Metal”, did an elaborate interview with Jörgen “Juck” Thullberg and Stefan “Emetic” Lagergren, revealing many unknown details and a lot of entertaining side notes from the history of the band, while Olivier Badin (writer for Terrorizer and Iron Fist) interviewed Johan “Hellslaughter” Edlund for his view on the importance and influence of TREBLINKA.

Apparently if you spray paint the Slayer band name along with a pentagram on a building, you've committed a hate crime… or so one New York resident thought. The picture you're seeing above is one taken by Commack, NY, Patch editor Amanda Lindner after an August 13 graffiti report, who also wrote this funny (to metal fans) story: "Wicks …

According to Amanda Lindner of Patch.com, heavy metal graffiti at a park in Long Island, New York was was confused with a hate crime symbol Tuesday night (August 13).

One of the buildings at Wicks Park in Commack was marked with black graffiti consisting of the word “SLAYER” and a pentagram.

After a resident called in the incident, police were initially investigating the vandalism as a hate crime but quickly realized they were on the wrong track.

The logo of SLAYER features a pentagram formed by four swords and a circle with its logotype in the middle. Sometimes the logo appears as the swords pentagram on an eagle, which is controversial because of its resemblance to the Nazi eagle atop the swastika.

King Diamond

Diamond GEEZAH

It’s been seven long years since King Diamond graced our shores, and after seeing the footage of their comeback at Hellfest last year, it was pretty much guaranteed this return at Bloodstock was going to be something very special indeed. With a gate spanning the entire width of the stage and a burning red pentagram behind the kit, King Diamond put on a show of epic proportions. Opening with The Candle, King’s signature falsetto rings loud and clear above the heavy metal thunder of the band behind him. Of course it would be rude not to bring the family along too, so Grandma makes an early outing two songs in with Welcome Home. It’s loud and it’s heavy, but most importantly it’s fun. This is heavy metal theatre and there isn’t one boring moment.

Fan favourites Voodoo and Sleepless Nights go down a storm, and early classic Come To The Sabbath – one of only two Mercyful Fate songs on tonight’s setlist – gets the biggest cheers of the night. Guitarists Andy LaRocque and Mike Wead make one hell of a guitar duo, trading lick after lick with the simplest of ease. Closing with Black Horsemen, King Diamond walks off stage vowing to return sooner rather than later. It may have taken a while but was certainly worth the wait… long live the King!
