Chicago industrial metal outfit DOPE has released a video teaser showcasing the brand new track titled “Drug Music”, to be featured on the band’s sixth LP, titled “Blood Money”, scheduled for release in March 2014.

Speaking publicly for the first time in four years, founder and frontman Edsel Dope weighs in what fans can expect: “It sounds like DOPE. But it’s next level. It’s DOPE in 2014. With every record, the chemistry changes, the band changes and the sound expands. I’m really happy with how it’s turning out. It’s heavy, it’s pointed, it’s punk, pissed off, angry, electronic, noisy, melodic and metal. It picks up where ‘No Regrets’ left off and yet somehow has a lot of the punk/industrial energy of the early ‘Felons And Revolutionaries’ stuff. It’s DOPE. And like all DOPE, it’s best when played extremely loud and while traveling at dangerously high speeds.”

DOPE is returning after a four-year hiatus that concluded after touring alongside BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and SEVENDUST following the release of the band’s fifth album, “No Regrets”.

“Truth is, after 13 years of non-stop recording and touring with DOPE, I was burnt and I just needed a break from it all,” says Edsel.

He continues, “I’m ready to go now! I’m excited to get out there and re-connect with the fans and with that energy and feeling of being on tour.

“We are gonna do a month worth of shows and lose our fuckin’ minds before I slide back into the studio and put the finishing touches on the new album.”

During the short break, DOPE‘s fourth LP, “American Apathy”, eclipsed one hundred thousand units sold in the U.S. Edsel continues, “Selling a hundred thousand records now days is incredibly respectable. It’s awesome to know that our albums keep moving month after month on iTunes and in what few record stores still exist on planet earth. It’s pretty fuckin’ cool to gradually reach these milestones. It is extremely gratifying.”

DOPE will hit the road next week for a month’s worth of club dates before heading over to Russia at the end of October. Edsel adds, “My DOPE batteries are recharged and I am psyched to be back to it full time. The energy of the new music is off the chain! I can’t wait to finish it all up and be out there and tour the world.” SOIL will be joining DOPE on this the month worth of shows.

During the time away, Edsel has assembled the latest lineup.

“With every DOPE album, the lineup shakes up a bit,” says Edsel. “People grow, visions change and opportunities arise. It’s just part of the process and it has always shaken out to be this way. Everyone has there own passions and we all support each other. DOPE has become like a fraternity and I am on great terms with all of the guys who have ever played with me.”

Edsel has reunited with former touring DOPE drummer and MUSHROOMHEAD percussionist Dan “Dubs” Fox while adding new guitarist Nikk Dibs and bassist Jerms Genske, former lead vocalist of DIRGE WITHIN. Longtime DOPE guitarist Virus, who is also a member of DEVICE with David Draiman of DISTURBED, recently performed a handful of shows with DOPE in August and will be joining the band for dates in Russia at the end of October.

“I love playing with Virus. He’s my boy! I’m proud of him! He’s kicking ass with DEVICE. He kicks ass at whatever he does and we will kick ass together again in the near future,” concludes Edsel.

Original bassist Acey Slade recently returned to DOPE for a handful of Midwestern shows and will also be performing in Russia with Edsel, Virus, and Dubs at the end of October.

“Crucial Velocity”, the new Aisha Tyler-directed video from Maryland rockers CLUTCH, can be seen below. The song comes off the band’s latest album, “Earth Rocker”, which sold 22,000 copies in its first week of release to debut at position No. 15 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Released via CLUTCH‘s own Weathermaker Music label, “Earth Rocker” entered the German Media Control chart at No. 71. In the U.K., the CD landed at No. 50 on the regular chart, No. 3 on the Rock/Metal Albums chart and No. 11 on the Independent Albums chart.

Produced by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, FOUR YEAR STRONG, FALL OUT BOY) at the Machine Shop studio in Belleville, New Jersey, “Earth Rocker” was described by CLUTCH vocalist Neil Fallon in a recent interview with DCHeavyMetal.com as “probably faster than most of our recent albums. Maybe compared to some other bands, it’s not the fastest thing on planet Earth. For us it was definitely a step up in the tempo. And I think the other thing that kind of stands out about this one is the blues influences that we’ve been flirting with over the past couple records is more or less absent in this record, which didn’t really happen intentionally until we looked back at it. As a whole, it’s just much more of a straight-up rock and roll record.”

The artwork for “Earth Rocker” was created by Nick Lakiotes, longtime CLUTCH art director, who has worked on previous efforts, including “Robot Hive/Exodus” and “Strange Cousins From The West”.

Drummer Jean-Paul Gaster of Maryland rockers CLUTCH recently gave U.K.’s Rhythm magazine some rudiment tips. Check out the four-minute clip below.

Bring Me: taking over in 2013

Here’s what happened when Merl went to see Bring Me The Horizon bring the bangers to Camden Town with a monstrous piece of support in tow.

While we’re too late to catch promising, prog-tinged newcomers Empress (who we’re reliably informed go down well to a potentially unsuited crowd, which doesn’t surprise us as they’re bloody great), it’s hard to imagine any band being able to support BMTH on Sempiternal and still provide some of the more memorable moments of the night. But, to wheel out the ol’ cliché, Crossfaith aren’t just any band.

As it happens, they really are the best live force that planet Earth has to offer right now. Hurtling into a thunderous Monolith and sending an already almost-full KOKO into a pitting, dancing, surfing frenzy, the Japanese rave-metallers throw out the best half-hour of pure, unbridled chaos that you’re likely to see this year. It’s totally fucking nuts, and by the time they drop that Prodigy cover, it’s hard to see how tonight’s headliners can possibly step up.

Crossfaith

Luckily, Bring Me The Horizon decide to turn up and put on one of their best ever shows as well. Shadow Moses is a monstrous way to open any set, but the shout-long to “THIS IS SEMPITERNAL!” almost brings the roof in, while kicking into Chelsea Smile straight after is an almost piss-takingly brilliant manoeuvre. Oli Sykes bounds around the stage like a kid that’s been snorting Dib Dab all afternoon, throwing himself into the crowd whenever he gets the opportunity and inciting walls of death at the flick of a wrist.

It’s arguably the new material that sounds the mightiest tonight, with Antivist  predictably creating complete bedlam and Sleepwalking in particular drawing a ludicrously loud singalong. If there is one small fault to be had, it’s that this feels like a slightly short set, especially given that both supports only got a half-hour each, but when you’re at the stage of your career when you can start throwing out bangers for a laugh, you can probably just about get away with it. In fact, the deliriously happy punters stumbling out into Camden would suggest exactly that.

Assassin will release the band’s first DVD “Chaos and Live Shots” this coming January 29th via Steamhammer/SPV. The band also issued the following press release:

“Blood and gore all over the place, smelly feet in a car with closed windows, and as if that wasn’t enough, there are roadies crawling through grotty attics, interspersed with wild parties, plenty of drugs and tons of alcoholic beverages – somehow you can’t make up your mind which of these countless choleric excesses of a wonderfully and thoroughly uncivilised cohabitation you’d most like to have been a part of.

“Thrash metal act Assassin were there all the way, which is why they will probably be the last survivors of the human race when Planet Earth plunges – as predicted – into the abyss this coming winter. Mind you: should Armageddon really materialise, they at least had a good time. Where? In Frankfurt and Hagen, in Lichtenfels and Bochum, in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, but also … wait for it! … in Osaka (!). March 2010 saw eight cameras witness Assassin conquer that Japanese city, pulling out all the stops at the True Thrash Fest.

“Not only were Assassin’s two shows caught on camera, but also the every-day madness this chaos squad lives with. So should the world not come to an end after all, you will be able to watch all this and much more on double DVD, out January 29th in North America on Steamhammer/SPV. Chaos and Live Shots is the title of that footage (which is anything but confidential), presenting a thoroughly anarchistic band.

“Well how about this one: why is guitarist Michael Hoffmann pulled across the poker table like that? Or: why does drummer Björn Sondermann smash up his … hmm … well-kept Honda van? Why do the phones of the other band members ring all the time so they can’t ever seem to get down to some serious meditation? And why does this damn mobile have to ring when they’d much rather cheer on their favourite football team, Fortuna Düsseldorf, at the stadium?

“Find answers to all these essential questions on Chaos and Live Shots, plus bizarre anecdotes and wild film sequences from the career of this five-piece thrash band from Germany. ‘Uncle Tom’ Angelripper has his say, and the guys from Violent Force and Deathrow also were called upon to talk about their memories, complemented by comments from original Assassin drummer Psycho Danger (the name says it all!), the band’s first manager, and various ex-bassists. And in between, there are lots of hard-as-nail thrash metal tracks courtesy of Assassin.

“Chaos and Live Shots is pretty extraordinary. But Assassin wouldn’t be Assassin if the band hadn’t ignored all conventions when they got down to putting together the material. Chaos And Live Shots is brilliantly chaotic and wonderfully alive – which we already mentioned above…..”

A trailer can be viewed below, and the set will feature:

2 DVDs in a Digipak + 40 page booklet + exclusive voucher to enter the competition for a Fernandes Tremor Bass guitar

DVD 1: Exclusive interviews with many well known artists and insiders of the German and international Thrash Metal Scene such as Tom Angelripper (Sodom), Harris Johns (cult producer) and many others. Complete Band documentary sidelined by specials and background information on the bands history.

DVD 2 :Full ASSASSIN live Show – Osaka 2010 + Specials / 5 Bonus Songs

Washington based act Dog Shredder will be releasing a new EP entitled “Brass Tactics,” and the band’s publicist issued the following press release:

“Planet Earth, behold the mighty prog-strewn high-powered trio Dog Shredder. The Bellingham, Washington-based outfit’s rambunctious metallic output is about to bore its way into your head like a pissed-off electrified sixty-pound millipede on a brain-drilling mission.

“Several years of regional touring and countless performances alongside everyone from Melt Banana to Marnie Stern, Helmet to Black Cobra, and everywhere in between has amassed DOG SHREDDER a wealth of bewildered reactions from show-goers and media alike throughout the Pacific Northwest. Even Seattle’s major weekly arts paper The Stranger referred to the band’s unhinged live energy as ‘downright unfuckwithable’ in a show review.

“Following their self-released two-song Boss Rhino EP in 2010, DOG SHREDDER are preparing to lay waste to faces worldwide with their next invasion of aural decimation this Spring. The forthcoming Brass Tactics bears three brand new slabs of calculated chaos that captures DOG SHREDDER’s live attack. Recorded and mixed by Adam B. Pike at Portland’s Toadhouse Studio and Paul Turpin at Bellingham’s Champion Street Sound Studios, and mastered by Levi Seitz at Black Belt Mastering in Seattle, Brass Tactics will be released as a 12? EP via Seattle’s Good To Die Records this April.

“Stay tuned for more info on Brass Tactics, DOG SHREDDER live updates and more in the weeks ahead. For now check out a free high-quality download of the Boss Rhino EP at their official Facebook outpost.”

The “Brass Tactics” track listing is as follows:
