Dutch symphonic metallers EPICA will return to the stage on April 30, 2014 for an album-release show at 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands.

After taking a break from the road due the pregnancy of lead singer Simone Simons, the release of a new concert DVD, “Retrospect”, as well as the writing and recording of the band’s upcoming CD, the sextet will put on a memorable show, with plans to perform both old and new songs.

EPICA is currently finishing up the pre-production of the follow-up to “Requiem For The Indifferent”, with plans to enter the studio in October with producer Joost Van Den Broek (the former AFTER FOREVER and AYREON keyboard player who has previously worked with REVAMP and STREAM OF PASSION).

To make the album-release show even more special, EPICA‘s fans will not only be able to purchase regular tickets, but there will be two exclusive bundles available for this event. The first bundle contains a signed version of the upcoming album and the second, larger bundle will consist of a goodie bag, containing a signed copy of the upcoming album, an exclusive T-shirt, flag, lanyard, VIP laminate and a limited-edition poster.

Tickets and bundle for this show will go on sale Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 10:00 CET through Ticketmaster.nl.

There will be special “early-bird” tickets available at reduced price. This offer is valid until September 28, 2013.

EPICA celebrated its 10th anniversary with a one-night-only event, dubbed “Retrospect”, on March 23 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The band was accompanied by the seventy-piece Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Miskolc National Theatre Choir, playing an unforgettable three-hour best-of set.

Ten high-definition cameras captured this very special sold-out show while EPICA played in front of nearly five thousand ecstatic fans. In addition to a collection of the band’s biggest hits from across the spectrum of their entire catalog, this once-in-a-lifetime spectacular also featured the live debut of “Twin Flames” and the previously unreleased “Retrospect”, covers of classics by Vivaldi, Pergolesi, and Oscar-winning film composer John Williams, two guest collaborations with the venerable Floor Jansen (NIGHTWISH, REVAMP), and a very special performance of their breakthrough single “Quietus” with founding members Jeroen Simons, Ad Sluijter and Yves Huts.

On November 8, Nuclear Blast will release “Retrospect” as a deluxe hardcover book with 48 pages, both as a 2DVD/3CD and 2Blu-ray/3CD version.

“Alone In Heaven”, the new video from Finnish melodic metallers SONATA ARTICA, can be seen below. The song comes off the band’s latest album, “Stones Grow Her Name”, which was released in Europe on May 18, 2012 and in North America on May 22, 2012 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded in several studios all over Finland, mixed at Sonic Pump Studios by Mikko Karmila and mastered at Chartmakers by Svante Forsbäck. The effort was released as a limited-edition digipak, standard jewel case, vinyl and download.

Commented SONATA ARTICA vocalist and keyboardist Tony Kakko: “‘Alone In Heaven’ got sparked lyrically after I had suffered few personal losses in relatively short period of time. Those will make you think about a possibility of afterlife and such things. At least for me it was like that.

“I will always remember those passed on through this song every time we play it.

“I was initially a little hesitant wether or not this is a suitable track for SONATA, being rather ‘hard/soft rockish.’ But the guys fell in love with it immediately and it fell right in on the quite mellow-mooded ‘Stones Grow Her Name’ album. I think it’s a nice emotional rock song with some extremely beautiful parts to it. It has become a little bit of a fan favorite and crowd pleaser, being quite approachable and straight forward arrangement wise. Very live friendly track we’ll surely play also in the future. The video is like the song, fairly simple and …soft. Enjoy.”

“Stones Grow Her Name” sold around 2,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 9 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

SONATA ARCTICA recently parted ways with bassist Marko Paasikoski and replaced him with Pasi Kauppinen (SILENT VOICES, ex-REQUIEM, WINTERBORN).

According to Timo Isoaho of Finland’s Soundi magazine, Tony Kakko has written around 50 songs for the follow-up to 2012’s “Stones Grow Her Name”, with plans to track and mix the effort over a three-month period beginning in October.

Danish thrash metal veterans ARTILLERY will release their new album, “Legions”, in Europe on November 22 via Metal Blade Records. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include “Chill My Bones”, “God Feather”, “Legions”, “Wardrum Heartbeat”, “Global Flatline” and “Anno Requiem”. The digipack version of the album will include two bonus tracks: re-recorded versions of songs that originally appeared on ARTILLERY‘s 1995 debut, “Fear Of Tomorrow”.

In a recent interview with StageReport.ro, ARTILLERY guitarist Michael Stützer stated about the upcoming CD: “I personally think it’s the best production we ever had on a ARTILLERY album. It’s very raw and heavy.”

He continued: “Our new drummer, Josua [Madsen] and new vocalist, Michael [Bastholm Dahl], really deliver the goods on this album, Josua is an amazing drummer and real nice guy and Michael is the singer in ARTILLERY who is the closest ever to [original ARTLLERY vocalist] Flemming Ronsdorf beside putting a lot of new elements in the band because of his vocal range. He is also writing some great lyrics. So this band is a very complete unit.”

Regarding what qualities they were looking for in a singer following last year’s departure of Søren Adamsen, Michael said: “You will never hear ARTILLERY with a growler or a pop singer, but sung vocals with melody and rawness at the same time. Actually, we headhunted Michael from a cover band who played MERCYFUL FATE / KING DIAMOND covers, so we knew he could sing the old ARTILLERY songs very good.”

ARTILLERY 2013 is:

Michael Bastholm Dahl – Vocals
Michael Stützer – Guitar
Morten Stützer – Guitar
Peter Thorslund – Bass
Josua Madsen – Drums

Finnish melodic metallers SONATA ARCTICA have parted ways with bassist Marko Paasikoski.

Says Marko in a statement: “I have come to a situation in my life where being a part of a touring band is not an option for me anymore and it’s time to explore other things.

“I wish to thank all the fans and my bandmates for all the good times, great shows and adventures that we have had over the last decade. The memories from this time will stay with me forever but at the moment I don’t have the motivation or the passion that is required to be in the band so it’s better for all parties involved that we go our separate ways. I wish all the best for the guys.”

Added the remaining members of the band: “”We understand Marko‘s decision and this is, of course, a thing that we have talked about during the last tour. We appreciate Marko being a stand-up guy and finishing up the ‘Stones Grow Her Name’ world tour. Thank you, Marko, for all these years and best of luck and fortunes with your future endeaveurs. We’ll miss you, bro.

“Our new bass player is Pasi Kauppinen (SILENT VOICES, ex-REQUIEM, WINTERBORN). We’ve known him for many years and he has mixed both our DVDs as well as recorded parts of our last three studio albums. He will join the band starting with the upcoming album.

SONATA ARCTICA will start rehearsing in September and enter the studio in October. The new studio album will be out next spring with a world tour to follow.”

According to Timo Isoaho of Finland’s Soundi magazine, SONATA ARCTICA vocalist Tony Kakko has written around 50 songs for the follow-up to 2012’s “Stones Grow Her Name”, with plans to track and mix the effort over a three-month period.

Regarding the musical direction of SONATA ARCTICA‘s next CD, Kakko told Soundi that he has come up with some “diverse and versatile” material this time around, and that “at least the slower and heavier stuff will find its place on next record.” The band is planning to make a slightly heavier and “more metal” album than “Stones Grow Her Name”, which was certified gold in Finland for sales in excess of 10,000 copies. Kakko also revealed that he has composed a 10-minute song for the new SONATA ARCTICA LP, but he wasn’t sure if the track was going to make its way onto the finished product.

Released in Europe on May 18, 2012 and in North America on May 22, 2012 via Nuclear Blast Records, “Stones Grow Her Name” was recorded in several studios all over Finland, mixed at Sonic Pump Studios by Mikko Karmila and mastered at Chartmakers by Svante Forsbäck. AVENGED SEVENFOLD‘s video for the song “Hail To The King” can be seen below. The clip was directed by Syndrome, an award-winning design and live-action directing studio.

“Hail To The King” will be released on August 27. The long-awaited follow-up to 2010’s “Nightmare” was once again produced by Mike Elizondo and is the first to be wholly written without drummer and key songwriter James “The Rev” Sullivan, who died in December 2009. Sullivan has since been replaced by Arin Ilejay, a former member of CONFIDE.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD has announced the “Hail To The King” tour — a massive headlining U.S. arena tour to take place this October and the band’s first full scale American tour since 2011. The run of dates will kick off in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, October 3 and wrap up on October 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Supporting the band on all dates will be special guests DEFTONES and GHOST B.C.

“Hail To The King” track listing:

01. Shepherd Of Fire
02. Hail To The King
03. Doing Time
04. This Means War
05. Requiem
06. Crimson Day
07. Heretic
08. Coming Home
09. Planets
10. Acid Rain

AVENGED SEVENFOLD will celebrate the album release by playing a free show at the Hollywood Palladium on August 26.

“Hail To The King” lyrics:

Watch your tongue or have it cut from your head
Save your life by keeping whispers unsaid
Children roam the streets now orphans of war
Bodies hanging in the streets to adore
Royal flames will carve a path in chaos, bringing daylight to the night
Death is riding into town with armor, they’ve come to take all your rights

Hail to the King
Hail to the One
Kneel to the crown
Stand in the sun
Hail to the King
Hail, Hail, Hail the King

Blood is spilt while holding keys to the throne.
Born again but it’s too late to atone.
No mercy — from the edge of the blade
Dare escape and learn the price to be paid
Let the water flow with shades of red now, Arrows black out all the light
Death is riding into town with armor, they’ve come to grant you your rights

Hail to the King
Hail to the One
Kneel to the crown
Stand in the sun
Hail to the King
Hail, Hail, Hail the King

There’s a taste of fear
When the henchmen call
Iron fist to tame the land
Iron fist to claim it all

Hail to the King
Hail to the One
Kneel to the crown
Stand in the sun
Hail to the King
Hail, Hail, Hail the King
