Belgium’s leading black metal force ENTHRONED returns with a new studio album entitled “Sovereigns”. The follow-up to 2012′s critically acclaimed “Obsidium” is scheduled for an April 15 release via Agonia Records.

“Sovereigns” drifts from sonic blast beats to oppressive slower parts, melds together aggressive shredding with forceful riffs, and blends satanic whispers with Nornagest‘s trademark vocals. On the whole, band’s 10th album feels coherent and offers first-rate black metal. The album introduces a new drummer, Menthor, in the place of Garghuf and a new rhythm guitarist ZarZax.

The album will be available in: digipack CD, black vinyl, bone-white vinyl with green splatter limited to 100 hand-numbered copies and exclusive box CD limited to 333 hand-numbered copies (including the new album released in exclusive jewel-case edition, embroidered patch (8 cm x 10 cm), flag (42 cm x 59.4 cm) and a lighter with band’s logo).

British guitarist Mario Parga has announced that he has formed a new Los Angeles based all-acoustic trio called BONNET, PARGA & HEAVENSTONE with his longtime friend Graham Bonnet (RAINBOW, MSG, ALCATRAZZ) on vocals and rhythm guitar, and Beth-Ami Heavenstone (HARDLY DANGEROUS, TOMI RAE BROWN) on acoustic bass and backing vocals. Mario will provide lead acoustic guitar and backing vocals to the trio, who are currently recording new material and rehearsing for live shows around the world.

Said Bonnet: “For years now, I have always been asked why don’t I play an acoustic segment in ALCATRAZZ shows, as some people know my earlier music, from solo albums, with me playing guitar and writing different kinds of music, not just the obvious hard rock tunes.

“I was always nervous to do this after all these years being in a rock band, because you are out there semi-naked, guitar slinging with no Marshalls, loud drums to cover any bad notes or just getting through shows with screaming and yelling.

“Time to show that’s not the only voice I have again.

“I love real singing with real emotions.

“Sometimes hard rock becomes a little fake and tainted, so every song has to be sort of heavy.

“I won’t give up the rock influence I have in the new venture. I’ll be there, but just dynamics that give the band space and air and me catching my breath.

“To have a good friend and amazing guitarist to play alongside of, Mario Parga, is somewhat daunting but he was one person that has asked for years why don’t I do what we are now doing as an acoustic band. His versatility is perfect for me to attempt jazz, rock, pop, anything with confidence and a smile as this new band is making me very happy.

“Mario and I will play acoustic guitars and will be joined by Beth-Ami Heavenstone, playing acoustic /electric bass. Yes, a woman… and there’s a novelty!!!!???

“I sang with Beth-Ami and her band and was somewhat inspired by her enthusiasm. When I spoke with her after the gig and told her of my idea of some day trying to change my musical direction, she was interested in that concept as for her also the same old song was getting very old. She said, ‘Why don’t you do it now?’

“So here I am, Beth-Ami, Mario and I writing new tunes and feeling that spirit again that seems to have neglected us for too long.

Beth-Ami has great musical ideas, though sometimes I think I am right about everything. Well, I am not…. Mario and Beth-Ami remind me this is a group effort and I am so happy with that!!

“I hope this will bring those who are curious to see what this is and where it will lead.

“I hope to do a new album and live shows. I also have to thank Mandy Wheatcroft for her input into all I have done over the past few years. Again she told me: ‘Go for this, Graham. Show the world there is still a lot more music in you.’ Yes, there is…

“So then there are three.”

British metallers SYLOSIS have been forced to drop off their North American tour with TRIVIUM, DEVILDRIVER and AFTER THE BURIAL after being involved in a serious RV accident Tuesday night on their way to a show in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

In a posting on the band’s Facebook page, SYLOSIS guitarist/vocalist Josh Middleton writes: “Myself, Rob [Callard, drums] and [Alex] Bailey [rhythm guitar] have just been released after over ten hours in hospital. Carl [Parnell, bass] is being kept in overnight as he’s in too much pain to walk but should hopefully be released tomorrow morning (Montreal time) once some of his muscle pain/swelling has subsided.

“All four of us and our driver were hospitalized, but seeing as Bailey was the only one who didn’t get taken in on a stretcher and a neck brace, he wasn’t treated as urgently. He’s just had his back sewn up and is off to the scrap yard where the RV was taken to get people’s clothes and some personal items — hero.

“We’re all very lucky. We’ve mostly just been stitched up (my eyebrow, a few on Carl‘s legs and Bailey‘s back), badly bruised and what feels like full-body whiplash.

“In car-accident terms, we’re alright, but in general terms we’re not physically capable of continuing on with the tour and aim to get back to our families and friends [as soon as possible] to recover.

“We want to thank the paramedics, the passersby who came to our help, the staff at the hospital and all of the fans and bands that have wished us well. It means the world to us.”

SYLOSIS‘ latest album, “Monolith”, was recorded with Romesh Dodangoda in Wales at Monnow Valley Studio and was mastered by Jens Bogren (SOILWORK, AMON AMARTH, BLOODBATH) at Fascination Street Studios. The concept for the lyrics were loosely inspired by the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. The artwork was created this time around by Dan Goldsworthy (ACCEPT, HELL).

“Monolith” can be purchased on Amazon, iTunes and the Nuclear Blast webshop.

SPIRALARMS, the San Francisco Bay Area-based heavy rock band featuring Craig Locicero (FORBIDDEN, ex-MANMADEGOD) on guitar, Tim Narducci (ex-SYSTEMATIC) on vocals, Chris “Cornbread” Lombardo on bass, Brad Barth on keyboards, Anthony Traslavina on rhythm guitar and Ron Redeen (THE ESSENESS PROJECT) on drums, will release its second album, “Freedom”, on October 22 via Steamhammer/SPV.

SPIRALARMS rose from the ashes of millennial bands SYSTEMATIC, FORBIDDEN and MANMADE GOD.

Friends since the age of 15, Narducci and Locicero bonded over their love of heavy metal and hard rock music. Looking back at that time period, Craig said, “[We were] probably the youngest kids in the East Bay metal scene that were drinking beer out in the parking lot after seeing bands like TESTAMENT and EXODUS play.”

Although the two remained friends throughout the years, they both went their separate ways and started bands of their own.

After years of playing with their respective groups, the two friends contacted each other and decided it was time to start playing music together again, and in 2004 SPIRALARMS was born.

“Freedom”‘s down-to-earth and very dynamic production deserves a mention. The album oozes a liveliness, which many other bands tend to lose in the studio. “We always work at the studio as a full band,” says Locicero. “The basic tracks of the new album were recorded in just about 16 hours, the rest was recorded by and by, but always in the same spirit. From the beginning, we never lost sight of our vision and that special flair which our new songs have.”

“Freedom” track listing:

01. Dropping Like Flies
02. Hold Me To The Sky
03. Exit 63
04. Blackmoon Morning
05. Drugs & Alcohol
06. Dealer
07. Lovers Leap
08. Tomorrow’s Dream
09. Freedom
10. I Lay Low (digipack bonus track)

The song “Dealer” can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below.

SPIRALARMS is:

Tim Narducci – Vocals/Guitar
Craig Locicero – Guitar
Anthony Traslavina – Guitar

Alison Hell has apparently been thrust into the fashionable zombie age, judging by the gory chick clawing and gnawing on a heart in 3-D fashion for ANNIHILATOR‘s fourteenth album, “Feast”. At least Jeff Waters and company make the most of the moment, delivering a largely fast, well-entertaining ride.

Moving on past the ooh and ahh hologram cover spiffing up the ECO-book version to “Feast”, this album is by-and-large a serious ass-kicker. Stacked with heaps of thrash, killer shredding, smelted solos and superb drumming, “Feast” throws a few monkey wrenches into the scheme using the same exploratory spirit of “All For You” without dramatically altering the crunchy-yet-crisp feel of this record.

Kudos to Jeff Waters for keeping the criminally-overlooked Dave Padden on board all this time, especially now that his singer has of late been picking up rhythm guitar duties on the road. “Feast” was laid out with Waters fielding guitars and bass (Alberto Campuzano handles the latter outside of the studio), but it still feels more of a collaborative effort with Padden‘s trusty dynamics and fluid pounding from drummer Mike Harshaw.

Harshaw is terrific all over this album, as sharp as anyone Waters has corralled into the ANNIHILATOR compound. Harshaw has proven himself worthy of stepping onto Mike Mangini‘s pedals, laying down steady mosh and thrash pulses throughout “Demon Code” and “No Way Out”. He’s especially huge with his snub-nosed snare rolls on the shifty genre-collision of “No Surrender”.

“Feast” gets rowdy in a hurry with the thrashy “Deadlock” and “No Way Out”, while “Smear Campaign” alternates between mid-tempo power lines and stepped-up thrusts. “No Surrender” then presents one of the album’s curveballs, mingling some funky licks all over the verses ala LIVING COLOUR before walloping the song with massive metallic rivets on the choruses and bridges. Lifting “No Surrender” through a mosh-driven middle section and an out-of-nowhere gloom arc filled with the sounds of a presumed zombie attack, then a scorching solo from Waters, the left-of-center tinkering throughout “No Surrender” is flat-out weird. Yet it’s also a welcome sojourn back to the thrash-prog motifs of ANNIHILATOR‘s early years. Waters also loads “One Falls, Two Rise” at the end of the album with one of the busiest rounds of progression he’s ever attempted.

“Wrapped” struts out with dukes up on a mostly straightforward rawk jive that gets the benefit of some wicked top riffs and a fret-scratched solo. Then the murky anti-ballad “Perfect Angel Eyes” interrupts the headstrong chaos of “Feast”, keeping a strong slow pulse with a nifty bass loft and a subliminal static hiss lurking overtop the acoustic spiral of the song. After this point, “Feast” gets back on the gas with only a few noodlings scattered throughout “Demon Code” and the uppity “Fight the World” (which has a nifty slow fakeout intro before rumbling into speed mode) before the decorative signature swaps come all over “One Falls, Two Rise”. Padden‘s soaring vocals on “One Falls, Two Rise” hit new timbres on the opening verses than we normally hear out of him and they’re wonderful, even more so once the song blasts into a thrash arc and Padden dips into his trademark blend of clean-growl. The song takes a hundred directions from that point and Padden adjusts himself flawlessly as if by instinct.

The ECO-book version of “Feast” comes with the bonus disc “Re-Kill”, fifteen re-recordings from the back catalog, half culminated from ANNIHILATOR‘s celebrated couplet “Alison Hell” and “Never Neverland” and the rest spread throughout the non-Padden years. While the entire notion of heritage acts releasing bonus discs with redos has become passé, “Re-Kill” is harmless if perhaps a little insulting to Coburn Pharr and Randy Rampage. As much as it’s a joy listening to Dave Padden through ANNIHILATOR‘s last handful of studio albums, it’s more than enough for us to hear him take down “Alison Hell”, “Fun Palace” and “Word Salad” onstage. The man’s created his own legacy, modest though it may be, just like his benefactor, Jeff Waters.

That aside, “Feast” is still a hell of an enjoyable trip and Jeff Waters‘ enduring faith in Padden has paid off. From “Metal” to “Annihilator” and now “Feast”, Padden has forced Waters to raise his game, even if Padden sowed the seeds on “All for You” and “Schizo Deluxe”, two ANNIHILATOR albums that deserve more respect. “Feast” is a culmination of both of those albums while hearkening back to the early days in spots. All delivered with excellent production and a tasteful sense of style. The repeat and tweaked guitar intros to many of the cuts on the album reveals a return to songwriting fortitude in Waters‘ always-changing mindset. No need to gush about Waters‘ fret prowess on “Feast”. That comes as an automatic selling point. With much congratulations due, “Feast” is an album destined to keep a-rolling more than a few times simultaneously in your player.

Mario said: “I’ve always loved acoustic music and have played the acoustic guitar along with the electric since I began playing years ago.

“The acoustic trio will give us the opportunity to play a variety of songs, from old to new and a couple of instrumentals in an ‘unplugged’ environment with a clear, clean sound.

“The acoustic guitar has great dynamics, and it can be used to great effect for rhythms and solos.

Graham sounds particularly amazing in an acoustic setting; he’s able to use his entire vocal range and dynamics, from the softest melodies to, well, Graham!

Beth-Ami‘s acoustic bass powers and grooves the trio with the bottom end, and her backing vocals complement Graham‘s voice.

Beth‘s been around on the L.A. circuit for decades and can play just about anything.

“We have a few new songs that are being recorded at my place and will be featured on our website soon (www.acoustictrio.net).

“Live shows are currently being set up and will be announced on the trio’s website

“We hope to see our old fans and new at the acoustic shows, and for them to hear us in a new setting.”
