The Swedish band Civil War was formed when Oskar Montelius (guitar), Rikard Sundén (guitar), Daniel Mullback (drums) and Daniel Mÿhr (keyboards) left Sabaton. They recruited vocalist Nils Patrik Johannson (Astral Doors) and a bassist named Pizza (Hell Patrol) to complete the lineup. I caught up with Myhr, who gives us the scoop on the band’s formation and the recording of their debut album The Killer Angels, tour plans, his musical background, his top five Swedish metal bands of all time and other topics.

Sabaton announced a major mutual split of the current band. According to multiple news sources, guitarists Oskar Montelius and Rikard Sundén, drummer Daniel Mulback and keyboardist Daniel Mÿhr have agreed to departed the band. Vocalist Joakim Bróden and bassist Pär Sundström will continue on as Sabaton with new, yet undisclosed members. The statement was posted up on the band’s Facebook page, with a link to the full story on band’s website, however, the link quickly crashed the band’s hosting server. No word of the news has yet been confirmed by label Nuclear Blast.

News sources report that the full statement on the band’s website reads as follows:

“Starting a band at the age of 18 is simple, keeping it intact for 12 years is much harder, and finally we have come to the crossroad where we will go separate ways.

“Pär Sundström and Joakim Brodén will continue to battle on stage, carrying the banner of Sabaton to further victories.

“We will always have an eternal bond to each other, created by more than 12 years of friendship & touring, and wish each other long and prosperous lives with families, various projects and musical careers.

“In the end, all six of us will end up in our own glorious future…”

The band has not commented on the upcoming major U.S. Tour scheduled this May. More information is expected shortly.

Swedish metallers Evergrey are officially kicking off their North American tour today in Atlanta, GA as part of the Prog Power Festival. Following their Prog Power performance, Evergrey will be criss-crossing North America through October 12th with support coming from The Abscense, Sabaton, and Powerglove.

Drummer Hans Van Dahl is ready to take on North America and commented, “Man, It´s been quite a while since Evergrey polluted the North American ears last time! Now we´re out with a new record called ‘GLORIOUS COLLISION’ and all I can tell you that we’re super psyched to crush every venue on this North American collision tour down to the ground”

Guitarist and vocalist Tom Englund also commented on the band’s lineup changes, “The most recent Evergrey line-up had reached a point where we no longer had fun as a group,” he confesses, adding: “So we went our separate ways to save our friendship. There were no angry words, and we’re still friends privately. In the beginning, we weren’t sure whether we’d be able to write a new album without the wealth of experience that the previous line-up brought in. But after [keyboardist] Rikard and I had composed a full three numbers during the first week, we felt that was a real coup.”

“This may sound like a contradiction in view of our personnel situation,” said Tom, “but Rikard and I have allowed more influences on ‘Glorious Collision’ than ever before. Some elements on ‘Glorious Collision’ are classic rock, based on a metal format; sometimes the tracks are quiet and haunting, sometimes wild, demanding and gripping.”

You can catch Evergrey live on the following dates:
