SCAR THE MARTYR was recently on the road as the support act for DANZIG on a North American tour which also included performances by former MISFITS guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein and HUNTRESS. The trek kicked off August 9 at Sound Academy in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and wrapped up on August 31 at Tempe, Arizona’s Marquee Theatre.

In addition to Jordison, SCAR THE MARTYR‘s lineup for the tour featured singer Henry Derek Bonner (BLOOD PROMISE), guitarists Jed Simon (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) and Kris Norris (DARKEST HOUR), keyboardist Joey Blush and bassist Kyle Konkiel (IN THIS MOMENT).

“With this project, I focused my efforts on writing for the better of the song,” said Jordison. “I wasn’t worried about flash or persona… It’s all about writing a good solid song. I’m writing music that people can grasp and hold on to…something that resonates. If you don’t have that, then you have nothing.”

“I’d been working on new SLIPKNOT material since the end of the ‘All Hope Is Gone’ tour cycle, but I ended up with so much stuff I had to take a step back and stop working on it,” he explained to Metal Hammer magazine. “The time wasn’t right. But I came up with a bunch of material that was really killer and heavy and started taking some of it in a different direction. I started focusing on a lot of the post-punk and industrial stuff that I’ve always loved and started putting super heavy and brutal guitars over the top of it. That’s how it started. It’s taken me a couple of years to get to this point, but I can honestly say this is the most satisfied I’ve ever been in the studio. I can’t wait for everyone to hear this shit.”

SCAR THE MARTYR will support ALICE IN CHAINS on their U.K. tour in November.

In the first of a two-part series of guest lessons, ROB ZOMBIE and ex-MARILYN MANSON guitarist John 5 (real name: John William Lowery) takes U.K.’s Total Guitar magazine on a shortcut to shred mastery. Check out the footage below.

John 5 recently spoke to Artisan News about his forthcoming solo album, an all-star affair which is tentatively due in 2014.

Rob Zombie is obviously my priority, and everything I do is just when he’s doing a movie or something like that,” he said. “And you know, I never play live with anyone else, I never tour, ’cause I never wanna confuse anyone. I’m just a writer. So as soon as they see a credit — ‘Oh, John 5 wrote on this Ricky Martin song,’ or whatever like that — then that will… So it doesn’t really get in the way. But I love doing my instrumental records and people really enjoy ‘em, so I’m always working on those. I’m working on one right now. I’ve got Elton John‘s bass player doing stuff. I mean, I have a bunch of guest stars on this one, so it’s gonna be really good.”

Regarding how his upcoming album will be different from his last effort, 2012′s “God Told Me To”, John 5 said: “The last one was half acoustic, half electric and I always like to change it up, so this one, I’m just gonna have a bunch of guest stars. So I’m gonna start asking my friends for favors and all this stuff. ‘Hey, come on in. I watched your house and I let your dog out that one time, so come play on my record.’ So I’m gonna start my long list of people to come and play. I think it’s fun.”

He continued: “These albums are a lot of fun. I just do ‘em for the love of guitar and to inspire a couple of people on the way… I just really enjoy doing that. It’s great. It was one of the smartest things I’ve ever done. Right when I left MANSON, I was, like, ‘OK, so I guess I’ll finally make my instrumental record.’ And it did really well, and I’m on my sixth one. And I don’t do them for money or anything — I just do them for the love of the guitar — and I think the audience really can see that. I’ll do something like a Chet Atkins song and then some crazy death metal-type song. So it’s a very wide range of music; there’s no format and there’s no rules.”

KILL DEVIL HILL — the band featuring legendary drummer Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL) alongside Rex Brown (PANTERA, DOWN) on bass, Mark Zavon (RATT, W.A.S.P., 40 CYCLE HUM) on guitar and Jason “Dewey” Bragg (PISSING RAZORS) on vocals — will release its sophomore album, “Revolution Rise”, in North America on October 29 via Century Media Records. The CD was produced by KILL DEVIL HILL and Jeff Pilson (DOKKEN, FOREIGNER, DIO) and was mixed by Jay Ruston (STONE SOUR, ANTHRAX, STEEL PANTHER). The cover artwork was created by Sam Shearon, who has previously worked with ROB ZOMBIE, IRON MAIDEN and FEAR FACTORY, to name just a few.

Says Brown of the new album: “This new KILL DEVIL HILL record is definitely one of my favorite moments of my career — it’s got balls, great melodies, awesome guitar riffing and a low end that’ll set your ass on fire! The album far exceeds our wildest expectations and we can’t wait to take this music out on the road and share it with all of our friends and fans. Buckle your seat belts, we’re all in for one hell of a ride!”

“Revolution Rise” track listing:

01. No Way Out
02. Crown Of Thorns
03. Leave It All Behind
04. Why
05. Wake Up The Dead
06. Long Way From Home
07. Where Angels Dare To Roam
08. Stained Glass Sadness
09. Endless Static
10. Stealing Days
11. Life Goes On

The song “Crown Of Thorns” can now be streamed in the YouTube clip below.

KILL DEVIL HILL will celebrate the new album release with an October 29 party and performance at The Roxy on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California. A fall tour will follow.

Speaking to Skinny Music earlier this year, Brown stated about KILL DEVIL HILL‘s new material: “It’s pure, unadulterated, hard, kicking-ass rock and roll, man. That’s all I an say about it. It’s gonna be amazing. The tapes I have, there’s no compression, no EQ off the board. It’s just non-stop rock and roll, man. That’s all there is to it.”

KILL DEVIL HILL‘s self-titled debut album was released last year via Steamhammer/SPV. The CD landed at position No. 9 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Kill Devil Hill” was produced by Warren Riker, who is best known for his work with DOWN, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, SUBLIME and CATHEDRAL. The effort was made available in a standard CD edition, as an iTunes digital download, and double gatefold LP.

According to drummer Vinny Appice, KILL DEVIL HILL‘s sound is “like a cross between BLACK SABBATH, ALICE IN CHAINS and a little bit of LED ZEPPELIN thrown in. It’s heavy, but with a lot of cool hooks and melodic overtones, too.”

KILL DEVIL HILL is:

* Jason “Dewey” Bragg (PISSING RAZORS) – Vocals
* Mark Zavon (RATT, W.A.S.P., 40 CYCLE HUM) – Guitar
* Rex Brown (DOWN, PANTERA) – Bass
* Vinny Appice (HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, DIO) – Drums

Wielding his customized screeching Oktober Annihilator guitars like baying lycanthropes at his command, ex-MISFITS slinger Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein comes knocking for another ghouls’ night out with his new band, DOYLE, and their debut album, “Abominator”.

As with his late-Eighties, post-MISFITS project KRYST THE CONQUEROR, the DOYLE band (consisting of CANCERSLUG vocalist Alex Story, bassist “Left Hand” Graham and fellow MISFITS alumni, Dr. Chud on drums) takes a heavy lean towards metal with varying modes of doom, grit rawk and thrash. More polished in execution, the DOYLE band will net an existing demographic of fans clamoring to hear Doyle chuff his downstrokes and gouge ear canals with his caterwauling guitar solos. Now that Doyle has been seen yet again onstage in the company of Glenn Danzig on a recent tour featuring both former MISFITS principals’ offshoots, the attraction is even greater for nostalgic punkers and newbies sporting the Crimson Ghost upon their chests.

The album’s first single, “Valley of the Shadows”, bangs along with ankle-jerking drive, as does the raunchy hump groove of “Cemeterysexxx”. The riffs are no less raunchy on the slow and slinky “Love Like Murder”, on which Doyle punches out more wah compressions than even Zakk Wylde (as Doyle does all throughout “Abominator”) before the song kicks into a punked-up mosh tempo. The hip-shaking verses of “Mark of the Beast” carry a Rob Zombie feel before dirtying things up on the grubby choruses and chunky breakdown section.

The title track is a coarse, doom-stoner blower in the vein of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY, while on the flipside, “Learn to Bleed” propels with a vicious thrashcore attack filled with heavy riffs and dropkicking crash patterns from Dr. Chud. Subsequently, “Headhunter” is no less fierce. Even when “Bloodstains” later in the album assumes a tone-drenched death crawl for most of the ride, the track switches gears into a foot-stamping mosher. Finally, “Hope Hell is Warm” closes “Abominator” with the same spirit of slam.

Dr. Chud, having long been in close quarters as part of Doyle‘s one-time revamp of the MISFITS, plus GORGEOUS FRANKENSTEIN, is one of the highlights of “Abominator”. The dude crushes everything in sight with precise double hammer, rattling crash rides and trampling rolls that demand attention all their own. “Left Hand” Graham tosses out rips and snorts on the four string, sounding perfectly lethal on the title cut, “Learn to Bleed”, “Cemeterysexxx” and “Headhunter”. Alex Story possesses shrewd dynamics between crunk-filled woofing and low-end wailing while pulling out a few nicks of Glenn Danzig at times on “Cemeterysexxx” without plagiarizing.

“Abominator” checks in and checks out as a largely fun romp with the expected dedication to horror motifs and air spaces laid to waste by Doyle‘s whumping riffs and puncturing fret rapes. Each screaming solo sounds like a victim in pain (particularly on “Dreamingdeadgirls”, “Headhunter” and “Hope Hell is Warm”) and for his fans, “Abominator” finds Doyle flailing away snugly within his disruptive demesne.

Professionally filmed video footage of former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach‘ September 19 performance at the Rock In Rio festival in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil can be seen below.

Acclaimed drummer Bobby Jarzombek (HALFORD, RIOT, SEBASTIAN BACH, FATES WARNING) recently finished laying down drum tracks for 12 songs on the new solo album from Sebastian Bach. The CD is being recorded at a Los Angeles studio with producer Bob Marlette (BLACK SABBATH, ALICE COOPER), who helmed Bach‘s last solo CD, 2011′s “Kicking & Screaming”.

The guitars on Bach‘s new album will be performed by Devin Bronson (AVRIL LAVIGNE, PINK) and Steve Stevens (BILLY IDOL). There will also be songwriting contributions from guitarist John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE, ex-MARILYN MANSON), who co-wrote the song “TunnelVision” on “Kicking & Screaming”. Making a guest appearance on the CD will be bassist Duff McKagan (DUFF MCKAGAN’S LOADED, VELVET REVOLVER, GUNS N’ ROSES).

Bach previously stated about his new material: “It is going to be balls-out, kick-ass rock ‘n’ roll with tons of vocal histrionics and harmonies especially… I am going to really concentrate on harmonies and pushing my voice to the maximum you have ever heard it pushed. The riffs are crazy and cool.”

Bach‘s brand new CD/DVD package, “ABachalypse Now”, was released in North America on March 26 via Frontiers Records. The “ABachalypse Now” Ultimate CD/DVD Edition includes never-before-seen footage from last year’s Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Dessel, Belgium, the full never-before-seen Hellfest set from France and the fully-remixed and remastered Nokia show from Los Angeles (originally broadcast on AXS TV), as well as bonus music videos. The DVD contains a running time of nearly 160 minutes. “ABachalypse Now” was made available in two configurations: the Ultimate CD/DVD Edition (2 CDs + DVD) and a standalone DVD.

In the five-minute clip, former MARILYN MANSON and current ROB ZOMBIE drummer Ginger Fish (real name: Kenneth Robert Wilson) shares his tip five tips for being on tour while on this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.

Ginger Fish drummed for MARILYN MANSON from 1995 to 2011. His simple-yet-powerful approach was the driving force behind MANSON‘s hit albums “Antichrist Superstar” and “Mechanical Animals”.

Ginger cleverly combines modern drum sequencing and sample loops with traditional drum instruments.

Ginger, a left-handed drummer who sets up right-handed, always goes for simplicity and taste in his approach to his playing. According to Ginger, this is why he landed the MANSON gig.

Rob Zombie‘s fifth album, “Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor”, sold 34,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 7 on The Billboard 200 chart.
