Apparitions, which signed to Indianola Records last month, has now checked in from the road with the following tour report:

“So I finally have a bit of time and the means by which post another update (thanks to Panera for the wifi and the coffee). Tonight is our last Florida show, which makes me happier than these three cups of coffee I’ve had. Not to talk negatively about Florida, but I’m really getting sick of re-enacting the battle scenes from Starship Troopers every time I get out of the van; the bugs here really are that monstrous and scary. Other than that, we’ve enjoyed our time here. After tonight, we head north to brave the cold.

“Yesterday, some friends of ours took us to Disneyworld, which was a welcome break from the usual daily grind of sleeping in parking lots and sponge baths in Walmart rest rooms. Notable highlights included me thoroughly schooling Alex on the Buzz Lightyear Star Command ride (my score was twice as high as his) and Brandon finally getting to experience his lifelong fear of being stuck on a roller coaster. We probably should have been more sympathetic, especially given his refusal to budge from a fetal position, but honestly, all I could do was laugh. I should note that this wouldn’t have happened were it not for the efforts of some good friends of ours who work at the park, so to Alberto, Megan, and J.J., we give our very warm and heartfelt thanks.

“Also, I need to recap some of the last few shows: we’d like to thank It Lies Within for putting on killer shows every night and being awesome tour-mates, and I want to give props to Siege of Malakand, a band full of kids who put on one of the most jaw-droppingly brutal and aggressive metal shows we’ve ever seen. They killed it in Orlando a few nights ago and definitely stuck out among the bands we’ve played with on this tour.

“After tonight, we have a day off in my hometown before playing Swayze’s on Friday, and we’re understandably stoked for a day of rest.”

August Burns Red is once again pleased to spread some pre-holiday cheer with the release of “Sleigh Ride,” the second new track from upcoming Christmas album “August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin’ Hill, A Holiday Album” – in stores October 9th from Solid State Records.

“’Sleigh Ride’ was the last song to come together for Sleddin’ Hill’ and one of the trickier songs to cover due to its crazy structure and various key changes,” says guitarist JB Brubaker. “The original song is all over the place and so is our version. ‘Sleigh Ride’ is a complete roller coaster – there is even a jazz section in the middle complete with horns. The end reminds me of a rock n roll dance party in the 1960s. I don’t know what else to say – you just have to listen to it.”

Listen to “Sleigh Ride” in the player below, or you can find pre-orders for the album at this location.

Finnish melodic death metal band Insomnium announced the departure of guitarist Ville Vänni from the band. Vänni will play farewell shows next week in Joensuu and Helsinki, Finalnd. His replacement will be Markus Vanhala of Omnium Gatherum.

Vänni posted the following statements about his departure: “Time is now ripe to share the news about lineup changes in the Insomnium camp. With a heavy heart I have reached the decision to resign from Insomnium. The decision is mutual and final, and there is no big drama behind it.

“During the last year I have found myself in a limbo of constant lack of time and impossible schedules. Combining a general surgeon’s career with a busy metal band like Insomnium has already taken years of precise timing, and the candle has been burning from both ends for years now.

“At the same time, Insomnium has grown bigger demanding more and more time. As a result, I have gradually come to a painful realization that I cannot meet the needs of this roller coaster ride any more.

“This decision was hard to make and accept for all of us. Insomnium has been like a family and the bandmates have been (and will still remain) my best and closest friends. For not being able to give my 100% would only be letting them down. The reason why this decision is made flesh right now is that I will not be able to attend the One For Sorrow European tour. My wife is due to give birth to our first son and it is my responsibility, duty and choice to be home at that time. I will play two first shows in Finland and then bid farewell.

“However, the burden of this decision is lightened by the fact that Insomnium will go on and even grow stronger after my retirement. Markus Vanhala from Omnium Gatherum will take my place as a full-time guitarist in Insomnium. He is a good friend and an excellent musician and has already been replacing me and Ville F. on several occasions.

“Thank you Niilo, Ville and Markus for a decade of good times and a lifetime of friendship and unforgettable memories. And thank you all Insomnium fans, it is you who made this all possible! See you on the coming shows!”

Insomnium posted the following statement: “We all want to thank Ville for everything and totally support him with his decision. We’ve been together for ten years with this lineup and it has been a great ride. We’ve been a band of brothers, we’ve been a family. Nothing will ever change that.

“This is the beginning of a new era for Insomnium. Sometimes a change is needed to keep the band going. Luckily we have got the best possible man to fill the vacancy, our good friend Markus Vanhala, who is best known as the songwriter and lead guitarist of Omnium Gatherum. Markus will naturally continue in Omnium Gatherum and unfortunately our tour schedules collide in November when OG is participating in the Neckbreaker’s Ball.

“As a result, we’ll have Tuomas Jäppinen as a second guitarist for the first seven evenings of the tour. Tuomas is also our old buddy and he is best known as the songwriter and lead guitarist of Enter My Silence. Tuomas is doing us a huge favour in delivering a killer lshow every night. So, make sure Tuomas feels welcomed when he hits the stage! Markus will join our ranks in München and play all the German shows on the tour.

“Dear friends, do not take these news too heavily. Insomnium is not dying or withering away – we will be stronger than ever and we will keep touring and making new music. Give Ville Vänni the kind of farewell shows he deserves and come to see us perform in Joensuu on November 4th and Helsinki on November 5th. Then come and meet the new gang on the Euro Tour. See you soon!”

On September 26th (and a day later in the U.S.) Nightrage will release the band’s fifth album “Insidious.” Nightrage guitarist and mastermind Marios Iliopoulos has now posted the second part of the album’s track-by-track breakdown, which can be found below. Head over here to check out the first part of the track commentary.

“Sham Piety” – “Sham is actually the second song that Antony and I composed along with Olof. It’s a bit different and has an eerie feeling over all. One of the riffs comes from the first times of Nightrage, and it fit very well with the rest of this song. We blended some nice acoustic passages with brutal vocals, and also Tomas Lindberg makes a cool guest vocal appearance.”

“Cloaked In Wolf Skin” – “This one hits you like a roller coaster! It’s pure thrash with some death metal styles of riffing. Fast and straight forward. We wanted to create a very live fast song with cool guitar harmonies. The verse riff is totally old bay area thrash, and Jo’s drumming made this amazing. The chorus melodies help keep a good pace and the balance between melody and aggression.”

“This world is coming to an end” – “Very mid tempo kind of song with a fast verse and an emotional chorus. We had the luxury to have here again two amazing singers doing their thing. Apollo and Tomas make the last chorus together, and it is a great finale for the song.”

“Utmost end of pain” – “Very sad sounding guitar melodies at the beginning of the song, it leads into a fast and melodic verse. It’s a very different song for us again. Lots of heavy riffs and pounding drums. The chorus comes off very melodic and blends well with the overall melodic touch. Nice solos from Olof and myself with some cool chord progressions. I love how the vocals give you that strange feeling of desperation and anger, and at the same time, gives some glimpse of hope.”

Nightrage is heading out for the “Frets Of Fury” North America tour with partners in crime Firewind, Arsis, and White Wizzard. Dates are as follows:
