British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN this week landed at position No. 1 on Billboard.com ‘s “Hot Tours” list of top-grossing tours with $8.5 million in ticket sales from six performances on their summer tour of Europe. The shows were attended by a total of 121,280 fans, including a two-night, sold-out stand on August 3-4 at the O2 Arena in Lonon, England, where the band played to 27,000 fans. With totals added from this summer’s Europe dates, overall ticket sales from the tour top $42 million from 45 reported concerts.

MAIDEN‘s 15th studio CD, 2010’s “The Final Frontier”, featured 10 tracks that had an average running time of seven minutes and 40 seconds, with the shortest song, “The Alchemist”, clocking in at four minutes and 29 seconds, and the longest, “When The Wild Wind Blows”, lasting ten minutes and 59 seconds.

“The Final Frontier” sold 63,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 4.

IRON MAIDEN‘s previous album, 2006’s “A Matter Of Life And Death”, opened with 56,000 units to land at No. 9. This was a notable increase from the 40,000 first-week tally registered by its predecessor, 2003’s “Dance of Death” (which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart), and that of “Brave New World”, which moved 38,000 copies in June 2000 to land at No. 39 on The Billboard 200 chart.

“The Final Frontier” was IRON MAIDEN‘s fourth U.K. No. 1 album. The band previously topped the chart in 1982 with “The Number of the Beast”, in 1988 with “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son” and in 1992 with “Fear of the Dark”.

Antimatter has released a new music video for “Uniformed & Black,” which can be found below. The song is taken off the band’s upcoming album “Fear Of A Unique Identity,” set for North American release on January 15th, 2013. Mick Moss comments about the video clip:

“‘Uniformed & Black’, with its short running time, infectious hook and driven energy, always struck me as having potential to be a single or a video. With the ink dry on the new contract with Prophecy Productions, it was the perfect time to explore the possibilities for this. Sometime in 2012 I developed a film concept to accompany the song, and later that year the promo was greenlit by Prophecy.

“We looked at a few filmmakers and settled upon the team of Nicolas Giraldon, Mehdi Messouci and Grégoire Orio. It was a very strange experience to actually sit in a scene that up until that moment had only existed in my head. Very surreal. The concept of the video perfectly sums up the idea behind the song, and also ‘Fear Of A Unique Identity’ as a whole – the suppression of individuality in order to blend in with the masses.”

“Check out our videos section for an early, pre-Kenny version of the song, as well as some other neat stuff. Better yet, the youtube page.

“We’ll be knocking those out soon enough, and once that’s over with the album will be released. In the meantime, keep checking our page for updates, videos, and maybe, just maybe, if you’re done with your homework in time for dinner, a little surprise.”

Germ’s latest EP “Loss,” which follows the band’s “Wish” album from last year, is set to drop on October 30th, 2012. The track listing and artwork can be viewed below. Germ was also covered in the genre-blending edition of our “Unearthing the Metal Underground” column. The following press release was issued about the upcoming EP:

“Begun as a solo project by Austere member Tim, Germ was conceived as early as 2003. The idea behind Germ was to create something that not only combined atmospheric black metal and rock – Tim has become known for with his love of classical, pop and electronic styles of music – but to create an image and visual aspect to accompany the music. In 2006, a three-song EP was recorded, but never released. One track from the EP, ‘Raving Mad With Sadness,’ was uploaded to Myspace, and to this day gains considerable praise. After this song appeared, things again fell silent.

“After almost three years of inactivity, where the focus was on other projects, Tim entered SLS studios in October 2009 to begin tracking for what was to become the debut full-length Germ album. However, not long after, Tim was again focusing on other projects, this time composing pop songs for various major labels and producers, as well as working as a session drummer for various bands; completion of the debut Germ album would have to wait. As of February 2011, Tim resumed work on the album, this time with the determination to see it through to the end. Tim’s continuing work as a composer and session musician have meant at times the progress has been slow, but finally the debut Germ album, Wish, was complete in the somber month September 2011 and finally saw a release through EISENWALD in March 2012.

“But that was just the beginning…following the critical acclaim afforded Wish, Germ returns with the even more stunning Loss. With a running time of over 36 minutes, Loss takes you on a trip from the very first notes. At once a continuation of the sound created on the debut album, as well as a giant leap forward, Loss means the next chapter in the musical evolution of Ger,! For proof, preview ‘So Lonely, Dead Lonely’ below.”

1. My Only Hope
2. So Lonely, Dead Lonely
3. Only When Every Timepiece In The World Is Smashed Part I
4. Only When Every Timepiece In The World Is Smashed Part II
5. Cold Grey Dawn (A New Beginning)

Post-black metal act Thraenenkind, which features bassist Nathanael from Heretoir, has announced the band’s new album will be titled “The Elk.” Nathanael commented:

“Besides the new singer Nils (Fäulnis, Ophis), Torsten of Agrypnie and myself have done vocals on this great release – expect something different from the older material but yet something very melodic, mature and absorbing.”

The track listing is as follows:

1. Monument
2. Just another way of expressing defeat
3. The king is dead
4. My transparent heart
5. Today, the sea (Anja’s song)
6. Deleting those three words
7. Eternal youth
8. Silence is everything
9. Seven dead horses
10. Forest
11. This story of permanence
12. The elk

The following press release was also issued about the album:

“The upcoming Thränenkind debut album will be a concept album with about an hour running time. It will tell you the story of two siblings, who are on a roadtrip to the funeral of their father. On this trip they meet friends of former times, old memories, tragedy, hope, death and a mysterious ‘stranger.’

“The story is set in the northwest of the USA. But it is a methaphorical story and could take place everywhere on earth and everyone could be a protagonist. What counts is what the heart says.

“Concerning the music there will be some changes and alterations compared to older Thränenkind releases, but still atmosphere will be the main point of Thränenkind’s music. Some songs are really slow and have a little touch of crustcore in them. Some are fast and unfold the power of black metal, while others are completely instrumental songs with a lot of atmosphere.

“Around the end of this year the album will be released and you will have the possibility to buy this record, which is made of heart’s blood and contains everything Thränenkind stands for. Check out our Facebook page once in a while and you will get the chance to listen to some songs before the album is released.”
