Mesopotamian kings of blackened thrash metal MELECHESH have announced the addition of drummer Sasha Horn to the group’s ranks.

Commented MELECHESH mainman, songwriter, singer and guitarist Ashmedi: “After a lengthy search, MELECHESH are proud to announce the inclusion of new drummer Sasha ‘Sin’ Horn. Sin as in the Mesopotamian moon god. He will be appearing on the upcoming album, which we will follow up with more details. Meanwhile, he flew in from the USA to our rehearsal room in Germany to work with the band on new material and meet the label guys and the chemistry was great. His drumming skills will sure bring in an extra kick to the new album.”

Since there were rumors and uncertainties of the current second guitarist of MELECHESH, the pioneering band clarified the situation in the following statement: “After one show, it became obvious things wouldn’t work out with Sirus, so we mutually agreed to go separate ways. For now, the position is not vacant until a great talent crosses our ways. Ashmedi will track guitars and former guitarist and longtime friend Moloch might be flying to the studio for recordings, but not touring as well. We have two great touring guitarist who are friends of ours and will step in as live session musicians.”

MELECHESH is currently writing material for its upcoming sixth album.

The band’s latest CD and Nuclear Blast debut, “The Epigenesis”, was released in 2010 and received rave reviews all over the globe, followed by eight tours with the likes of SEPTICFLESH and NILE.

Craig Locicero of U.S. thrash act Forbidden has checked in with the following brief update about the progress of working on a new album and follow-up to “Omega Wave” (reviewed here):

“Sasha leaves the Bay to go back home and be with his family tomorrow and we unload the studio today. We got A LOT of work done towards the next Forbidden record this week.

“It’s funny, I can’t remember ever working as many days and hours in a row as we have. There is still much to do with the other guys, but we have some ripping material being conjured up!

“No two ways about it, this stuff is faster and much more thrashtastic then anyone would expect. I think we’re off to a great start!”

Forbidden founding member / guitarist / songwriter Craig Locicero has issued the following update about working on a new album and the status of his other projects:

“Recently I’ve been getting bombarded with questions as to what exactly I am doing musically because I have so many updates about my different projects. Forbidden, SpiralArms, Demonica, and now Manmade God have all been thrown out there. So please let me explain a little bit.

“At the end of 2011, I made a commitment to myself: 2012 will be the year I have the most musical gratification and fun I will ever have had in my life. So far my mission is working out pretty well.

“Forbidden. We are writing a record presently and what we have so far is smoking-shit-hot-thrash-attack! Sasha Horn has been a lightning rod for our original energy since he’s joined up. The only issue we have is the amount of time we get to spend together with Steve Smyth and Sasha both living elsewhere. But we have our ‘Four Dates of the Apocalypse’ coming up here in April and we finish that up in Santiago, Chile and Sao Paulo, Brazil! That will be awesome. While we get together to practice, we also work on new songs. Then, it’s Wacken in August and recording the new record before the end of the year for a 2013 release. I sure hope there is a 2013!

“SpiralArms. Big plans for this year…FINALLY! When I joined back up with Forbidden in 2008, we put Spiral on hold longer than we ever intended it to happen. I love this band, man! Tim Narducci has been finishing up the mixes for Freedom over the last few weeks and it kicks some MASSIVE ASS! There’s a very positive response to the songs from every turn in the industry right now, and that’s exciting, but I think we’ve all gotten over the idea of becoming huge and just want to do things right. Spiral can be a kick ass cult band and maybe a lot more, but we’re cool letting momentum take us wherever we may end up. Great f’n band and I am committed to seeing things through. Can’t wait for everyone to hear it!

“Demonica. We are in suspended animation while Hank Shermann is killing it in Volbeat and I’m so damn busy. Need a new drummer eventually. Maybe this time a guy from Europe that I don’t already play with… hmmmm? But ultimately it’s Hank and Klaus Hyr that call the shots in Demonica. So Marc Grabowski and I will await instructions.

“And yes, Manmade God got together for the first time on March 28th since our crash-and-burn in 2005. It was a kick-ass experience for all of us and very therapeutic. The idea is for us to love and respect each other and the music we wrote that hardly anyone got to hear. It was a surreal and wonderful experience playing the songs again along with some other gems that reminded us of why we did what we did. On one hand, seems like a small travesty that more people didn’t know about MMG when it was happening. However, it seems like we’re better equipped to deal with ourselves this time around. Honestly, I think we sound much better now! So we are gearing towards a show in late July and will take it slow. No hurries, no worries but for friendship, respect, and the love of our music. We made a new Manmade God band page on Facebook if you’d like to be updated. We’re pretty much videotaping the entire process for later use. Go ahead and check that out.

“So that about covers it. I guess I’ve better get back to work.”

San Francisco Bay Area thrashers Forbidden have announced the addition of drummer Sasha Horn from Chicago to the group’s ranks.

Forbidden announced the addition of new drummer Sasha Horn (Ex-November’s Doom/Ava Inferi) after a long search, involving an open casting on YouTube.

The band’s announcement reads:

“After a couple of grueling months of sifting through video auditions, we’ve finally got our man. Let it be known that on Halloween 2011, Sasha Horn from Chicago is FORBIDDEN’s new drummer!

“There were so many great players throwing themselves out there and we were always encouraged by the prospects. We had 9 different drummers out of the dozens of submissions make the trek to Oakland to give it their best shot. Those drummers included Eli Lucas (Petaluma, CA), Duane Timlin (Houston, TX), Jimmy Schultz (Los Angeles), Pat Magrath (Los Angeles), Gee Anzalone (Italy), Todd Hansen (Australia), Henry Moreno (Florida), and Burton Ortega (San Francisco). We can’t say enough about these guys and how much heart and guts it took to take the chance for the gig. Much love and respect to them! At the very least, we have some new friends and we know where some great new talent is.

“All of these guys kicked ass or they would have never made it through the door, but at the end of the day, it was a two-horse race between Eli Lucas and Sasha. We can say with certainty that if Sasha didn’t slay the way he did, Eli would have gotten the gig. Both are incredible drummers with HUGE upsides. Eli will go far in this business!

“Sasha, however, lifted us to another level. When he started playing ‘Infinite,’ everyone in the band immediately looked at each other and our eyes got bigger. It was something that Russ and I have not felt since Paul Bostaph first played with us back in 1986, when we were kids. Simply put, great chemistry! A sense of invincibility was in the room. Then we played ‘Forsaken At The Gates’ and it was over. No need to keep playing – we were stunned. In fact, some of our hands were shaking! That’s saying something. It was like gasoline thrown on an inferno!

“Now that we have our band back intact, we can start writing the next FORBIDDEN record with the confidence that we have something special once again. Like Bostaph, Jacobs, Hernandez and Hoglan, Sasha Horn will earn his praise and respect from our fans. He’s FORBIDDEN’s next great drummer and we are very proud to tell the world! We are truly inspired to out-do ourselves.”

New FORBIDDEN drummer Sasha Horn made the following comments:

“This was an amazing opportunity from the get-go, to be able to throw my name in on auditions for a band that I’ve been an avid fan of since I was 12 years-old. How does it feel to now get the chance to slay alongside them? Otherworldly. Truly out of this world. To just be considered along with the other amazing drummers from across the globe was a humbling experience in itself. And it’s because FORBIDDEN is a band that wants to constantly take leaps and bounds up to that next level that I know this is the perfect union. When we got into that room and played together for the first time, the chemistry just went right off of the charts. That’s a good feeling to start off with.”
