The Age Of Metal recently conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Luc Lemay of Canadian technical death metallers GORGUTS. You can watch the chat below.

GORGUTS recently parted ways with drummer John Longstreth and replaced him with Patrice Hamelin.

The band’s fifth album, “Colored Sands”, was released on August 30, 2013 in Europe and September 3, 2013 in North America via Season Of Mist. The CD was made available will be available as a digipak CD limited to the first pressing, regular black LP, transparent clear LP and red/yellow colored LP.

Lemay previously told Zero Tolerance magazine about “Colored Sands”: “It’s a whole concept album, so I’d been reading books for a year a year and a half for the lyrics to know what I’m going to talk about.

“The lyrics process is very hard for me. First, I’m French, and then I need to educate myself on the topic I’m going to talk about. I’m not going to educate myself on the Chinese invasion of Tibet with a Wikipedia thing.

“I bought piles of books. I feel the same way I did at the conservatory when I was writing classical pieces. It takes months and months, the pieces you just can’t get it out of your system. You need to become a sponge, you need to get soaked with the topic.

“In the first place, I wanted to write the whole album about the rituals of mandalas made with sand. One day, my girlfriend’s little daughter colored in a coloring book a mandala for me and I wondered what a mandala was, I liked the word. I searched on the Internet and found out this is a Tibetan thing and then it clicked, this is gonna be it, but I didn’t have any clue, I wasn’t very educated on the Tibetan culture. This mandala thing gets so complex, you could study it for 25-30 years before you know exactly what you’re talking about, so I said, ‘Okay, I’ll take it from a different angle.’ It’s not a National Geographic documentary either. It’s very poetic and very epic. This is my vision. I have no pretension about telling ‘truth’; it’s how I feel about these people.”

GORGUTS has joined forces with CARCASS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and NOISEM for Decibel magazine’s third cross-country domination.

Cult Swedish black/death metal act NECROPHOBIC will release its seventh full-length album, “Womb Of Lilithu”, on October 29 (four days earlier in Europe) via Season Of Mist. A digital single featuring the new song “Splendour Nigri Solis”, taken from the forthcoming CD, was released exclusively through Spotify on August 19 (September 3 in North America).

“Womb Of Lilithu” track listing:

01. Womb Of Lilithu
02. Splendour Nigri Solis
03. Astaroth
04. Furfur
05. Black Night Raven
06. The Necromancer
07. Marquis Phenex
08. Asmodee
09. Marchosias
10. Matanbuchus
11. Paimon
12. Opium Black
13. Infinite Infernalis
14. Amdusias

The official lyric video for the song “Furfur” can be seen below.

A Swedish appeals court last week reduced the prison sentence for NECROPHOBIC vocalist Tobias Sidegård, who was accused of beating his wife multiple times between September 2011 and April 2013.

Sidegård was originally sentenced to 18 months in prison for “gross violation of a woman’s integrity,” and offense that was first introduced into the Penal Code in 1998 dealing with repeated punishable acts directed by men against women who have or have had a close relationship with the perpetrator.

On September 20, the Svea appeals court found Sidegård guilty of simple assault — a less serious offense than “gross violation of a woman’s integrity” — and reduced his prison sentence to six months. The musician was also ordered to pay his wife 16,000 Swedish kronor (approximately $2,500) in damages plus interest.

Sidegård previously denied all charges through his attorney, claiming that the injuries suffered by Tobias‘ wife that were described in the indictment occurred in “other ways” than through physical abuse perpetrated by the musician.

Tobias sent an e-mail to the Metal Insider and MetalSucks web sites earier in the month insisting that he was “set free after second appeal in higher court.” “I’ve been fucking innocently accused and never hit a woman in my life,” he wrote.

The other members of NECROPHOBIC released a statement three weeks ago in which they declined to comment on the allegations against their singer — pointing out that the legal process was still “ongoing” — but stressed that they did “not condone domestic violence.”

In 2011, NECROPHOBIC was joined by guitarists Robert Sennebäck (DISMEMBER, UNLEASHED) and Fredrik Folkare (UNLEASHED).

The band’s current lineup is as follows:

Joakim Sterner – Drums
Tobias Sidegård – Vocals
Alexander Friberg – Bass
Robert Sennebäck – Guitar
Fredrik Folkare – Guitar

NECROPHOBIC supported MORBID ANGEL on a European tour in November/December 2011.

NECROPHOBIC‘s latest album, “Death To All”, was released in Europe in May 2009 via Regain Records.

“Fire On The Mountain”, the debut album from the heavy metal “supergroup” TWILIGHT OF THE GODS, is available for streaming in its entirety using the SoundCloud widget below. The CD will be released on September 27 in Europe and October 1 in North America via Season Of Mist.

TWILIGHT OF THE GODS is: Alan Averill (PRIMORDIAL, DEAD SOVEREIGN, BLOOD REVOLT) on vocals, Nick Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, ex-DIMMU BORGIR, ex-TESTAMENT, ex-EXODUS) on drums, guitarists Rune Eriksen (AURA NOIR, ex-AVA INFERI, ex-MAYHEM) and Patrik Lindgren (THYRFING), and Frode Glesnes (EINHERJER) on bass.

“Fire On The Mountain” track listing:

01. Destiny Forged In Blood
02. Children Of Cain
03. Fire On The Mountain (1683)
04. Preacher Man
05. Sword Of Damocles
06. The End Of History
07. At Dawn We Ride

The effort will be made available as a CD digipack and a limited-edition LP via the Season Of Mist e-shop.

In a recent interview with Metal Hammer magazine, Averill stated about “Fire On The Mountain”: “We grew up with and through most of our reference points. This is just what just came out when we play. We didn’t need to go, ‘We need to write songs that sound like MANOWAR,’ but we all love MANOWAR. There’s a fine line to walk between pastiche, parody and putting of the old gonzoid heavy metal charm into it, but not being too self-knowing in that sense.”

Asked if it was weird to switch over to singing classic metal lyrics, and finding out how he related to those lyrics, Averill said: “Definitely. The thing is that it’s full of the gonzoid heavy metal idioms — the swords and the steel and the blood and the fire. It was a difficult balance to find, to strike between being full of a certain glory and beauty and charm of old heavy metal, without it being too wink-wink, nod-nod, self-parody, but really genuinely meaning it because that’s what we all love, and treating it with the sort of kid gloves and respect that it deserves.”

He continued: “But yeah, it was difficult trying to find a different voice, another kind of lyric but at the same time, if you take, say, the title track, ‘Fire On The Mountain’, that’s my Dio tribute and it sounds like a RAINBOW songtitle. But yeah, the song is about the siege of Vienna by the Ottoman empire in 1683 where King Leopold I and the Holy Roman See defeated the Turks, and those, I think, had a lot to do with saving the European culture and the Enlightenment and all sorts of stuff. So if you were to actually look at it, you’d go, ‘Actually, there’s something being said here, but it’s written in heavy metal vernacular, which was handed down to us from IRON MAIDEN and whoever. But it’s a challenge, for sure, and it’s also a challenge to write a chorus that people could sing. You’re sitting there for the first time thinking, actually, how could I write this in such a way for people at a show or at a festival to get behind it, you know? It’s just a traditional, hard-rock structure, which is a breath of fresh air for all of us, because we’ve all, for the past 20 years, been playing extreme music and darker music to some degree, so it’s a bit like something fresh for all of us, despite the fact that it’s all old.”

German black metallers ENDSTILLE will release their eighth full-length album, “Kapitulation 2013″, on November 8 in Europe and November 12 in North America via Season Of Mist.

“Kapitulation 2013″ track listing:

01. Aborted
02. The Refined Nation
03. Reich An Jugend
04. Sick Heil
05. Blasphemer (SODOM cover)
06. Monotonus 2013
07. Nostalgia
08. Stalin Note
09. KDF 511
10. Endstille (Abschied)

The song “The Refined Nation” can be streamed below.

With its eighth full-frontal assault, “Kapitulation 2013″, ENDSTILLE is armed and dangerous again. There is true grit and dirt in the nine original tracks as well as in the cover version of the SODOM classic “Blasphemer”, featuring a guest appearance by ex-SODOM guitarist Grave Violator on guitar.

“Kapitulation 2013″ has everything you expect from German black metal and more: furious droning of deliberately monotonous guitars, relentless punishing from the rhythm section and undiluted vocal aggression from the raw throat of frontman Zingultus – formerly of legendary NAGELFAR. Now ENDSTILLE is once more ready to take on the world with “Kapitulation 2013″, combining its strongest aspects on one album.

ENDSTILLE‘s seventh CD, “Infektion 1813″, came out in May 2011 through Season Of Mist.

ENDSTILLE in 2009 announced the addition of vocalist Zingultus to the group’s ranks.

The group’s sixth LP, entitled “Verfhrer”, was released in April 2009 via Regain Records.

CRONIAN (formerly ION) — the Norwegian/Swedish avant-garde metal project featuring BORKNAGAR members Øystein G. Brun (guitars and programming) and Andreas “Vintersorg” Hedlund (vocals and programming) — will release its third album, “Erathems”, on November 12 (four days earlier in Europe) via Season Of Mist‘s Underground Activists division.

“Erathems” track listing:

01. Cold Wave Eruption
02. Ecocracy
03. Drifting Station
04. Moments And Monuments
05. Blackwater Horizon
06. Core Resiliency
07. Chemical Dawn
08. End(Durance) Part III
09. Full Moon Inferno (bonus track on European digipak and digital editions)

The cover artwork for the new CRONIAN album was created by the Brazilian visual artist Marcelo Vasco (SOULFLY, DIMMU BORGIR, BORKNAGAR, SATYRICON) and can be seen below.

“I am so excited and honoured to join forces with Season Of Mist for future albums with CRONIAN!”, Øystein said back in May.

“We have just finished up the third album and I don’t even slightly blush when arguing out loud that it is the very pinnacle of my fairly long musical career. Musically and production-wise, it almost feels like a leap up and into another division.

Mr. V and I have been working intensely and fully isolated over the last six months with this bastard of an album and we firmly regard this as our most catchy, aggressive, atmospheric and darken flavoured effort to date.

“I am pretty sure this album will blow the socks off of all those who liked our previous releases, as well as fans of BORKNAGAR, VINTERSORG and likewise. So being able to work with one of the most credible, passionate and professional labels around makes my day — and make us proud! So excited to get this album out!”

Vintersorg added: “A new album has left our ‘systems’ and is now finding its path throughout the musical world. It has surely been a great journey to write, record and complete this third album in the CRONIAN chronicle. The music finally matches our vision is and it’s been an intense period for me and Øystein to really get there. We’re also very pleased to now enter the relationship with Season Of Mist to get this album out. Even if the music has been taking its path out of our bodies, it is still lingering in our minds… It’s stuck… And it feels just great. We’re so proud of this album and it’s just a pleasure to be reminded all the time of what a trip this has been.”

CRONIAN‘s second CD, “Enterprise”, was released in October 2008 via Indie Recordings.

“Lost Among Liars”, the new video from Norwegian avant-garde metallers VULTURE INDUSTRIES, can be seen below. The clip is an animated surreal visual critique of today’s society which takes us on a journey through a surreal cityscape populated by people and machines, each with their own different duties and functions. From the vagrant loser, to the dutiful cog in the wheel of industry, to the facade of family life, to the mask salesman, they are all here. Each of them tells a story of oppression, restitution, control and freedom.

The “Lost Among Liars” video was made by the Romanian artist Costin Chioreanu, who, despite his relatively young age, has already made his mark not only as a graphic arts, but also as a stage artist, musician, animator and movie maker. Aside from having designed the cover art for VULTURE INDUSTRIES‘ new album, “The Tower”, Chioreanu has also produced the cover art for bands such as ULVER, IHSAHN, ARCURUS, AURA NOIR and DARKTHRONE. He is the official artist for the Roadburn Festival 2014.

Due on September 27 in Europe and October 1 in North America via Season Of Mist, “The Tower” will be released on digipak CD, solid white gatefold double LP, transparent green gatefold double LP and black gatefold double LP. The LP versions, as well as the digital edition, will include the bonus track “Blood Don’t Eliogabalus”.

“The Tower” track listing:

01. The Tower
02. Divine – Appalling
03. The Hound
04. Blood On The Trail
05. The Dead Won’t Mind
06. A Knife Between Us
07. The Pulse of Bliss
08. Sleepwalkers
09. Lost Among Liars

VULTURE INDUSTRIES will hit the road in September for a series of European dates guesting with LEPROUS on the first leg of the European “Coal” tour.
