SidewalksTV.com spoke to the members of METALLICA prior to the September 16 screening of their movie “Metallica Through The Never” at the Metreon Theatre in San Francisco. You can watch the footage below.

“It’s kind of bizarre actually, to be standing on a red carpet in a place where you usually buy your popcorn,” METALLICA frontman James Hetfield told the San Francisco Chronicle. “It really brings it home, knowing that you’re premiering your film in a place where you bring your kids to watch movies.”

“We decided we needed to make this unique,” METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett told QMI Agency about the “Through The Never” movie. “So we came up with the concept of having a running narrative in the movie that weaves in and out of the concert footage. We liked that idea enough to tell our managers, ‘This is the type of movie we want to make.'”

“I think that METALLICA fans that are really into action films and movies with a lot of energy are going to be blown away,” METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich told Revolver magazine. “This is a very unique film. I don’t know what people are going to think of it. I like it. But obviously I’m biased.”

METALLICA reportedly spent $20 million of its own money to make the film, which will open in limited release on IMAX screens around the country on September 27. The film will then expand to more theaters on October 4.

The soundtrack, which features a number of METALLICA classics performed live in the movie, was released on September 24. The two-disc CD came out on METALLICA‘s own label, Blackened Recordings, also in digital and vinyl formats.

The concert sequences for the movie were shot in August 2012 at two shows in Vancouver, Canada and feature a stage containing elements of many of METALLICA‘s previous live productions from the past 30 years.

GRAVEYARD‘s third album, “Lights Out”, sold around 2,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 6 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Lights Out” was released on November 6, 2012 via Nuclear Blast Records. The “Goliath” single preceded the full-length CD on September 21 as a digital download and on seven-inch vinyl. The single includes a special non-album track, “Leaving You”. The “Goliath” seven-inch vinyl was issued in four different colors, featuring four different cover artworks.

Says vocalist Caroline Westendorp: “It is so exciting to see how fast the band has grown in such a short space of time. ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian joined VOLBEAT on stage last night (Monday, September 16) at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles to perform the song “Pool Of Booze, Booze, Booza” (preceded by a snippet of ANTHRAX‘s “I Am The Law”). Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be seen below. The photo above comes courtesy of Jose.

Former ANTHRAX guitarist Rob Caggiano, who was a producer on VOLBEAT‘s fifth studio album, “Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies”, recently joined the band as its new guitarist. He replaced guitarist Thomas Bredahl, who was given his walking papers in November 2011.

Asked what led to his departure from ANTHRAX, Caggiano told FaceCulture: “It just boils down to the fact that I never had any creative input, so there was no emotional connection to the music. And I don’t know if it’s ’cause I’m getting older or whatever, but it just got to the point where I started feeling like I was ging through the motions, and that’s a terrible feeling to have when you’re playing music. And it’s not who I am. I can’t do anything in life unless it’s 200%; that’s just the way that I am. So I knew I needed to do something, I knew I needed to make a change. And that was a really hard, emotional time and an emotional decision for me to make.”

Regarding how the ANTHRAX guys reacted when he told them he was leaving the band, Rob said: “They totally understand. We’re still friends, we’re still cool. We’ve hung out a couple of times since this whole thing went down. I think they get it; they understand how I felt and why I felt the way I did. And I think on that level, it’s cool. I mean, I hope it is. It seems like it is.”
