Iñigo Dominguez Diaz of Spain’s GoetiaMedia.com conducted an interview with singer Sharon Den Adel of Dutch symphonic rockers WITHIN TEMPTATION on August 30 at the En Vivo festival 2013 in Bilbao. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

On September 27, WITHIN TEMPTATION will release the “Paradise (What About Us?)” EP and promotional video, featuring a unique collaboration with classically trained Finnish rock diva, former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen, guesting on the title track.

Comments Sharon Den Adel: “When we had written the first version of ‘Paradise’ and listened back to the demo we’d recorded and the epic power of the song, we thought of Tarja instantly. How well this track would fit her classical voice and how extra special it would be if we sang it together. The more we thought about this wild idea, the more excited we got about it!”

Following several video trailers teasing the track, fans have been speculating on the band’s Facebook page who the duet would be with, some guessing it couldn’t possibly be a “competing” artist like Tarja. However, the two singers had no hesitation joining forces, having never thought of themselves as competitors. Sharon continues: “Of course I didn’t know what to expect from Tarja, as we’d never actually met in person ’till June this year. Our first encounter was via a Skype call we’d set-up to discuss the collaboration and we immediately clicked, not only creatively but personally. After we’d spoken, it felt completely natural that we would do this together!”

Tarja adds: “It was very nice to finally meet Sharon and the WITHIN TEMPTATION guys. I truly appreciate the invitation and the opportunity to work with them on their song ‘Paradise’. So wonderful that they thought of me! I hope our fans will like this ‘girl power’ duet!”

The song and accompanying music video share a central theme; that only constructive cooperation can lead to creation. To establish a new paradise, rising from the ashes of the old, we must work together.

For the first time, WITHIN TEMPTATION has also decided to give fans a very intimate insight into how they capture their song ideas early on. The EP will contain three additional tracks — demo versions of brand new songs intended for the forthcoming album. The demos include “Let Us Burn”, “Silver Moonlight” and “Dog Days”. Despite the demo versions missing intended symphonic, orchestral sounds and a finished mix, the powerful energy surging through the tracks can be heard right from the start.

The duet between Sharon and Tarja is just one facet of the new material. WITHIN TEMPTATION guitarist Robert Westerholt reveals: “For the first time, WITHIN TEMPTATION will release an album with several artistic collaborations, some of which will be seen as groundbreaking for our band and musical style.”

Consequently, the recording and production of the sixth studio album is still underway. With a release date set for end of January 2014, it is therefore necessary to reschedule the previously announced first leg of the band’s worldwide tour to allow time to rehearse the live show and prepare for the album’s release.

The band’s world tour will now begin on February 26, 2014 in Helsinki, with some newly added Eastern European dates, announced today, which will go on sale on Friday, September 20. The rescheduled shows will kick off on April 6 in Munich and run through to May 2 in Amsterdam. The band intends to add further overseas dates during the remainder of 2014.

Robert says: “We understand that the rescheduled tour dates are a blow for the many fans who have bought tickets early and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. We hope they feel a little compensated by the release of our new, special priced four-song EP, which gives them full insight into the kind of album we are working on. To make up for the rescheduled dates, we’re now pressured to work even harder to deliver our best and most impressive live production ever on the upcoming tour. However, the completion of a great new album is a prerequisite for that! And therefore the only option was to reschedule the dates for Western Europe.”

Tickets that have been purchased already will remain valid for the rescheduled dates.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Loudwire asked SHINEDOWN guitarist Zach Myers what the band has coming up next on its schedule after this summer’s Carnival Of Madness tour. Myers said, “We’re going to go home. Brent [Smith, frontman] has to rest his voice. He’s not allowed to talk during the day right now. He’s on vocal rest, same as Jacoby [Shaddix, PAPA ROACH singer]. So there are two singers out here who aren’t really talking a lot. It’s kinda nice. [laughs] We take these weeks off, then go to the U.K. We’re only going to be there for eight days.”

Also on the agenda is the possible release of a collection of covers that the group has recorded, with Myers saying, “I’m not sure what’s going down with that. Originally we were just going to release it on YouTube, which you don’t need permission for, obviously, because people do covers on YouTube every day. But I believe fans really want it as a download . . . Now we’re going to release it as an EP with just Brent and I. I believe it will come out during the holidays.”

The Carnival Of Madness tour, which also features SKILLET, PAPA ROACH and others, finishes up in Puyallup, Washington on September 18.

SHINEDOWN has been on the road steadily since the March 2012 release of its fourth studio album, “Amaryllis”.

††† (CROSSES) — DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno‘s project with FAR guitarist Shaun Lopez — has inked a deal with Sumerian Records.

††† (CROSSES)’s label debut is expected to arrive in winter 2013.

The band released its second EP, “††”, in January 2012.

In a 2011 interview with ChinaShop, Moreno stated about how ††† (CROSSES) came together, “I remember I mentioned to [Shaun] one day when we were hanging out, y’know, ‘We should make a record together.’ It just so happened that when I moved to L.A. I ended up living a few blocks away from him. I was down here working on recording some vocals with Shaun. We just clicked. We listened to a lot of the same music. We’ve always worked well together. With this project in particular, I met [guitarist] Chuck over at Shaun‘s house. Chuck was working on some of his solo stuff. I don’t know when they started working together, but they said they were working on a project together and asked if I was interested in contributing vocals. Whenever they were working, I’d just ride my bike over there. A couple different times, I was just like, ‘Let me try singing on this,’ and they were like, ‘OK, cool.’ I’d just go in and throw in a bunch of ideas. Pretty soon they got rid of the idea of getting a bunch of different singers together. We just started working on the record together.”

††† (CROSSES) made its live debut in January 2012 at The Glass House in Pomona, California.

Yesterday it was announced that former vocalist Jason Popson had re-joined Mushroomhead , which led to questions of just how many vocalists are in the band and if anyone had left. Mushroomhead’s Waylon Reavis has posted the following brief message online clarifying the situation: “Just so everyone is clear on this….. Mushroomhead now has 3 singers Jeffery Nothing, JMANN, and myself.

Aniruddh “Andrew” Bansal of Metal Assault recently conducted an interview with former KYUSS and current VISTA CHINO frontman John Garcia. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Metal Assault: I feel that [the debut VISTA CHINO] album is a continuation of the KYUSS legacy in many ways. Is that how you would put it, musically?

Garcia: Yeah, I think the record has some KYUSS blares in there, and I also think there’s a bit of exploration in there as well. Looking at the record and how it was done, it was done very organically, old-school on a 2-inch tape. Singers don’t record on a 2-inch tape anymore. They just don’t do it. But we did it that way. I sang out of one of Jim Morrison‘s U87 microphones, looking at the Joshua Tree rolling hills. The amount of trust that we put into one another to do each of our individual jobs, it was fulfilled. You can hear that. There’s always going to be people that don’t like it, that think there’s going to be a next KYUSS record. Well, that’s fine. People have their opinions about it. For me, I love songs like “Adara”, “Dargona Dragona”, “As You Wish” and “Sweet Remain”. From a singer’s point of view, those songs remind me of KYUSS, but when you listen to songs like “Barcelonian”, “Planets 1 & 2” and “Mas Vino”, that’s what I mean by exploration. So there’s a lot of feeling and emotion. I think people are going to put their label on it, put their own stamp of appeal on it, and that’s totally welcomed. We’re just all really proud of the record as a whole, so that’s my take on it.

Metal Assault: This genre of music, stoner rock, I think it’s kind of popular these days, at least in the heavy rock and metal circles. A lot of bands are playing this style. I guess it’s is a good time for you to do this, in that sense as well.

Garcia: Yeah! I don’t think Brant Bjork [drums], Bruno Fevery [guitar] and myself ever set out to change the face of rock ‘n’ roll or stoner rock. Stoner rock has been going on since forever. If you take a look at bands like BUFFALO or LEAF HOUND, that’s more stoner rock than stoner rock itself. [laughs] I mean, those are the true grandfathers of this genre of music. Either you get it, or you don’t. North America doesn’t get it, Europe gets it, Canada gets it, and so do Australia and South America. But some places just don’t get it and North America is one of them. As far as the current state of stoner rock goes, I don’t really listen to much of stoner rock anyway. You’ll be surprised by what I listen to. I listen to anything from Rihanna, believe it or not, to Bob Marley and everything in between. Occasionally from time to time I’ll put in some LEAF HOUND, BUFFALO or SABBATH, when the kids are off at grandma’s house and Wendy and I are here are the house hanging out, doing what we do. It’s always fun to spin some records. But to answer your question, I don’t think there’s ever really a “good” time. It’s just our time right now.

Metal Assault: That’s very well put. You mentioned the lineup. Has Mike Dean [CORROSION OF CONFORMITY] also worked on the album or has he just been a touring member ’till now?

Garcia: You know, VISTA CHINO is a three-piece band with me, Brant and Bruno. It always will be. I think Nick Oliveri is an honorary band member and Mike Dean is an awesome part of this and an honorary band member. But also, Mike Dean has another band that he’s fully committed to, an awesome band that we respect, called CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. So, he’s got some obligations that he needs to fulfill and right now we’re just lucky to have him.

Metal Assault: I interviewed him last April when C.O.C. were playing in Southern California, and he told me at the time that he was going to play some shows soon with VISTA CHINO. What was it like jamming with him?

Garcia: Mike Dean is an amazing bass player. What can you say about Mike Dean? I mean, he turns these songs into his own, and he brings character, emotion and personality to these songs. He’s not just some robot up there playing note-for-note of what Brant did or what Nick did. Mike Dean plays on the record as well. So he has turned those songs into his own and I have nothing but absolute mad respect for him. On the other side of the coin, as a human being he is one of the nicest guys I’ve met in my entire life. Very intelligent, very smart. I can’t talk highly enough about him.

Metal Blast recently conducted an interview with former AFTER FOREVER frontwoman and current NIGHTWISH touring singer Floor Jansen about her REVAMP project as well as her time with NIGHTWISH. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Metal Blast: Is singing for NIGHTWISH any different than what you used to do with your other bands or it was more like a familiar ground?

Floor: It was more of the familiar. Even though I was asked and directed a little bit, I do have the freedom to give my own ideas. When you start doing it, you have to give a part of yourself, so I couldn’t done it differently. I can’t just imitate the previous singers. It was wonderful to see that the songs really grew on me. I don’t feel like I’m singing someone else’s music anymore. It really feels natural for me.

Metal Blast: By the way, how was the show and filming you did with NIGHTWISH at Germany’s Wacken Open Air festival at the beginning of the month?

Floor: Oh that was so amazing! That was the biggest show for all of us, and with the DVD filming, it was also very exciting. It was such a perfect night. The weather was crazy, but the band was great… We’ve been playing well before, and I don’t want to sound arrogant or something like that, but, I mean, there are times like this when you just know that the band has a good vibe, you know that your sound is locked and you all have this feeling of yes… So that was all there. Add to that the massive sound of a 70,000 audience and it makes you… Wooh, it took me days to come down to earth after that show. [laughs]

Metal Blast: I understand it’s too early to reflect on your time with NIGHTWISH, but how was the ride and experience so far?

Floor: It has been magical and really amazing. I mean, we know each other for ten years, but you never figure when you start working more intensively if it would work or not… Especially since I stepped in a very weird moment, no one knew how things would be, but to see that there’s such a personal and musical connection, that everything is smooth without us trying to force it, it’s just… No one had the time to make any expectations, it just started abruptly and roughly and boom there we are! We were all in the same situation, we had to make it work — and we did! I don’t know if it’s because we started like that or if god knows why, but it has been working really well ever since. I don’t know how the future looks like — none of us do — but I can tell you that whatever happens I’ll be super proud and happy and still very privileged that I’ve been able to work with such wonderful and intelligent people.
