Avenged Sevenfold’s M Shadows

Following their history-making, chart-topping success here in the UK, Avenged Sevenfold are celebrating a double-whammy this week by also getting a Number 1 album on the US Billboard 200!

Hail To The King sold 159,000 copies in its first week Stateside to see itself sit atop the charts, following in the steps of its predecessor, 2010′s Nightmare. Congrats, lads!

Uncle Phil: still fresh

Phil Anselmo has once again reiterated his desire to make peace with former Pantera bandmate Vinnie Paul in a new interview with Fuse TV.

“For me, really, I think it would mean a lot for Rex and  Vince and myself to sit down and, I guess, bury the hatchet where we can be on more friendly terms,” he muses. “And, you know, I think it would mean a lot to the fans. Without Vince, there’s not any Pantera reunion at all; it’s useless. But he damn well knows my door’s wide open. He needs to bust out the keys and unlock his, man. I’m waiting, but I’m not holding my breath.”

Check out the video here

Vinnie and Phil remain on non-speaking terms since the death of Vinnie’s brother and Pantera guitarist, Dimebag Darrell, in 2004.

Two of my favorite musicians got together recently for a little chat in Guitar World Magazine: Dillinger Escape Plan's Ben Weinman and Soundgarden's Kim Thayil. Why is this such an interesting piece? Beyond the fact that the two men are extremely talented as guitar players go, the discussion sheds light in many topics including musical …

SOAD are back! Um, again!

At the end of System Of A Down‘s show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Monday night, drummer John Dolmayan seemed to confirm that the band are either currently working or are about to commence work on a brand new studio album!

“Next time we come back here, we’ll have a new fucking album!” he told the crowd as the band walked offstage. Check out the video below for proof (head to around 2:30):

If true, it’ll serve as the band’s first new album since 2005′s double-barrel of Mezmerize and Hypnotize. Back in May, bassist Shavo Odadjian suggested that it was only frontman Serj Tankian serving as a stumbling block towards a new SOAD album.

“It’s Serj who doesn’t want to do a new album!!!!,” he ranted on his official Facebook page. “So please stop harassing us about it!!! We are just waiting for Serj! Now he might hate me for exposing the truth, but I had to..

“Sorry, folks!!! We’re trying to get a new album out, it’s just not passing Serj’s rules! Kinda funny, since we started the band and now he’s holding us back!! I think we should should release another album again??? As for me.. I’m ready to release one with someone who wants to be the singer of System, not someone we have to beg to be a part of System!!

“So with that in mind, what do you guys [think] we should do? Just remember, he’s been holding us back for seven years so far. Wanna wait another 4-5 years? Or shall we release a record without Serj? You tell us.

“I don’t want to make a record without him… but if he’s not down? Should the three of us just sit and wait?? Not cool!!!!!!!! I want the fans from all over the world, including Brazil, to tell us what they think. No System? Or System with with a new singer who’s just as good, if not better? PLUS new System songs and tours???? Please give me your opinion, people!!! Is System better with no singer or someone who is excited to be our new singer?? You decide.,. ’cause I’m confused!!!

We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled on this one. Meanwhile, the band make their return to the UK this August as a part of Reading and Leeds 2013, contributing to what we’ve all pretty much agreed is the best Reading and Leeds lineup for fucking ages.

Skeletonwitch is playing a gig down the block from the Metal Injection studios so we thought why not invite them over to party with us for an hour? Members of the band (most likely vocalist Chance and guitarist Nate) will be sitting in on the first hour of the show, so make sure to tune …

Well, this is some shitty news for Killswitch Engage drummer Justin Foley. He was recently involved in a biking accident and broke his collarbone. Ouch! This will force the bearded drummer to miss the band's upcoming tour if Asia and Europe but fret not, they have already found a replacement in As I Lay Dying …
