The Body

The Body: pic by Megan Holmes

Everyone’s currently basking in the joys of an Indian summer, a communal lightness of being is in the air, why not defile it all entirely with a simmering miasma of sludge/doom filth courtesy of The Body?

The Portland, Oregon-based despondent duo have just released a glacially creepy video for the track An Altar Or A Grave featuring the unearthly voices of The Assembly Of Light Choir and taken from the new album, Christs, Redeemers, out now via Thrill Jockey Records. Directed by Richard Rankin, the video is a perfect match for the horrifying heaviness of the track itself, so for those of a stern disposition, you can gaze upon it’s gloomy, grimy face right here!

A trailer for “Gators Rumble, Chaos Unfurls”, the fifth album from France’s avantgarde black metallers GLORIOR BELLI, can be seen below. The CD will be released on October 29 in Europe and November 12 in North America via Agonia Records.

Climbing the ladder of innovation and artistic development, GLORIOR BELLI managed to work out a very own sound and view in the often stiff frames found within the black metal genre. Descriptions such as “avant-garde black metal bluesmen” (Pitchfork) or “bluesy doom-sludge” (MetalSucks) are only the two sides of the same coin that is about to reveal a new flip.

“Gators Rumble, Chaos Unfurls” is yet another milestone of an unusual relationship between southern stylistics and crushing heaviness, all tied up and sealed by a twisted yet still refreshing take on music, straight from the suburbs of Paris.

The follow-up to 2011’s “The Great Southern Darkness” (Metal Blade) will be available as digipack CD, 12-inch vinyl and digitally.

“Gators Rumble, Chaos Unfurls” track listing:

01. Blackpowder Roars
02. Wolves At My Door
03. Ain’t No Pit Deep Enough
04. A Hoax, A Croc!
05. From One Rebel To Another
06. I Asked For Wine, He Gave Me Blood
07. The South Will Always Know My Name
08. Le Blackout Blues
09. Backwoods Bayou
10. Built For Discomfort
11. Gators Rumble, Chaos Unfurls

EYEHATEGOD frontman Mike Williams has released the following statement:

Joseph M. LaCaze, New Orleans native and drummer for EYEHATEGOD, MYSTICK KREWE OF CLEARLIGHT and OUTLAW ORDER, passed away on August 23rd in New Orleans after a very successful five-week U.K. and European tour with EYEHATEGOD. He also performed ceremonial voodoo drumming and in numerous solo experimental electronic projects. Doctors confirmed to family members the cause as respiratory failure. He also suffered from severe long-term asthma.

“An account is set up for the benefit of his daughter Lilith LaCaze. Checks can be made payable to the Lilith LaCaze or Joseph LaCaze donation fund at any Capital One bank in any city.”

It was recently announced that EYEHATEGOD would make an appearance at Philip Anselmo‘s first annual Housecore Horror Film Festival this fall in Austin, Texas.

Since forming in 1988, EYEHATEGOD has defied all odds and continues to exist and persist despite personal and professional setbacks. They’ve been called doomcore, sludge and stoner rock, survived line-up shuffles, label hassles and a short-lived split. And after more than two decades of creating some of the most corrosive, vile music known to man, EYEHATEGOD still hasn’t lost the piss and vinegar that fueled it back the late Eighties.

That iconic style of Southern hardcore-laced sludge has finally made its way north of the border, and I do not mean the Mason-Dixon line. Toronto is a major global cultural center, so no surprise that they're in tune with what's going in every Dixie backwash throughout the Deep South. Nonetheless, it's always a bit eye …
