German power metallers GAMMA RAY will release their eleventh studio album, “Empire Of The Undead”, on CD, CD/DVD digipack, LP and digitally via earMusic on March 28.

Two songs from the CD, “Avalon” and “Pale Rider”, can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below.

The “Empire Of The Undead” title track was already been made available on the single/EP “Master Of Confusion”, an appetizer the band released in 2013, just before touring the world with HELLOWEEN.

GAMMA RAY recorded the new album in various sessions in 2013, with Eike Freese at the mixing desk alongside bass player and co-writer Dirk Schlaechter.

It was just after landing in South America that the unbelievable news reached GAMMA RAY mainman Kai Hansen and his bandmates: Hammer Studio, their home, rehearsal place, studio and meeting point for many metal bands in Germany, including their instruments, amps and tapes, had been destroyed by a terrifying fire.

GAMMA RAY will embark on the “Empire Of The Undead” tour in March, with special guests RHAPSODY OF FIRE.

The complete track listing for each “Empire Of The Undead” format can be found at GammaRay.org.

“Master Of Confusion” was released on March 15, 2013 via earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based international rock label which is part of Edel Group.

The release is not free from tasty rarities: a brand new studio cover versions of British glam rock band SWEET (“Lost Angels” — “the reason I have joined a band many years ago,” stated GAMMA RAY frontman Kai Hansen) and a hidden treasure of NWOBHM (“Death Or Glory” by HOLOCAUST).

“Master Of Confusion” is rounded off with six live versions (“The Spirit”, “Wings Of Destiny”, “Farewell”, “Gamma Ray”, “Time To Break Free” and “Insurrection”, recorded in Bochum) that were already included on the Blu-ray “Skeletons & Majesties Live” but were not featured on the CD release (which included the show recorded in Pratteln).

Bassist Chris Beattie of Connecticut hardcore/metal masters HATEBREED will sit out the band’s fall North American headlining tour after sustaining an injury in an accident. His temporary replacement on the road will be Matt Bachand of SHADOWS FALL.

HATEBREED‘s tour kicks off tonight (Thursday, September 26) in Poughkeepsie, New York and features direct support from SHADOWS FALL, along with special guests THE ACACIA STRAIN and BATTLECROSS.

Says Beattie: “On Monday, a large branch fell off a tree I was cutting and knocked the ladder I was on out from under me. I fell 8 feet off the ladder onto the sidewalk and luckily was able to throw the chainsaw away from me on the way down. I broke my left wrist and right elbow.

“I will be going ‘under the knife’ this Friday to correct the breaks and start the healing process.

Jamey [Jasta, vocals], Wayne [Lozinak, guitar], Matt [Byrne, drums], Frank [Novinec, guitar] and our manager Steve have all been very supportive and I look forward to getting back out on the stage as soon as I can.

“Please go out and support HATEBREED as they leave for a short U.S. tour today.

“Thanks to Matt from SHADOWS FALL for filling in for me. See you soon.”

HATEBREED‘s latest album, “The Divinity Of Purpose”, sold 17,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 20 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was made available on January 29 in North America via Razor & Tie and on January 25 in Europe through Nuclear Blast. The CD was co-produced by HATEBREED, Chris “Zeuss” Harris (SUICIDE SILENCE, ALL THAT REMAINS, SHADOWS FALL) and Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, AVENGED SEVENFOLD), with Wilbur also handling mixing duties. The cover artwork was created and illustrated by Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, ATHEIST, SIGH, ANACRUSIS, GWAR).

On October 27, 2012 Devin Townsend – more specifically the Devin Townsend Project – performed a concert that was to be the most encompassing, career-spanning show of Townsend’s career. The result was a massive production that featured a choir, circus performers, puppets, a giant vagina, and special guests. Finally, after nearly a year of poking at the …

France’s RockNLive.org recently conducted an interview with Irish rockers THE ANSWER. You can now watch the chat below.

Audio samples of all the songs that are set to appear on “New Horizon”, the fourth studio album from THE ANSWER, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The CD, which features mixes from rock icon Mike Fraser (AC/DC, METALLICA), will be released on September 27 in Europe and October 1 in North America via Napalm Records.

Since its third studio album in late 2011, THE ANSWER iinstigated a major shakeup in its circumstances and with new management, live booking agents and with new record label on board, late 2012 saw them enter the studio with ex-LITTLE ANGELS vocalist Toby Jepson at the production helm.

The band was honored and privileged that the late Storm Thorgerson and his team designed the artwork for “New Horizon” and Storm was working on the album cover design just before his sad passing. In a statement released by Storm Studios, they said: “Never one for looking back or resting on his laurels, Storm always got a thrill from working with young bands and from the idea of ‘newness’ in general. In his last few months, Storm and the Storm Studios team threw ourselves wholeheartedly into many new projects and ‘New Horizon’ was one of the last covers we designed together. As is our usual modus operandi, we interrogated the band at length about their music and lives, and listened to the album on repeat for a month. Our final designs were submitted to THE ANSWER very shortly before Storm died. The image itself came from our thoughts about endings and new beginnings, very poignant for all concerned.”

THE ANSWER consists of Cormac Neeson (vocals), Paul Mahon (guitar), Micky Waters (bass) and James Heatley (drums) and their U.K. tour will kick off in Belfast on October 11. Australian band TRACER will perform as very special guests on the U.K. mainland run in what promises to be one of the finest rock tours at the end of 2013.

U.K.’s Total Guitar magazine recently conducted a “Me And My Guitar” interview with Anders Nyström of Swedish dark rockers KATATONIA. You can now watch the chat below.

KATATONIA has announced a co-headlining North American tour, “Uncrowned & Vertikal Tour”, with CULT OF LUNA plus special guests INTRONAUT and TESSERACT. The two-week run will commence September 23 in Boston, Massachusetts.

The upcoming North American tour will coincide with the release of “Dethroned And Uncrowned”, KATATONIA‘s debut album on Kscope (sister label of Peaceville), home to ANATHEMA, AMPLIFIER, STEVEN WILSON and most recently, WISDOM OF CROWDS, the new project from Bruce Soord of THE PINEAPPLE THIEF and KATATONIA‘s very own Jonas Renkse.

“Dethroned And Uncrowned” will be release on September 10 in North America to celebrate Kscope‘s fifth anniversary.

The album was funded by a successful PledgeMusic campaign that helped make the recording possible.

Nyström commented, “The synopsis is simple and album title won’t lie; the drums will be dethroned and the distorted rhythm guitars will be uncrowned! Instead, we’ll place the emphasis on the many layers of ambience, with the melodies staying central and the vocal harmonies representing the heart of the album.

“Think of the album like a person’s face in the hands of a surgeon, whose appearance is gonna change, but it’s still the same person behind that face and we guess an important factor, in this case, would be that the surgeon itself is obviously KATATONIA, not a stranger! If there’s one album in our repertoire that’s suited for a thing like this, it’s ‘Dead End Kings’.”

KATATONIA will support PARADISE LOST on the “Tragic Illusion” 25th-anniversary tour in October alongside LACUNA COIL.

Concurrently, also celebrating their own 10th anniversary for their masterful sixth album “Viva Emptiness”, KATATONIA will perform the album in its entirety each night to make these shows even more special.

Originally released in 2003, “Viva Emptiness” is regarded by many, including the bandmembers themselves, as being among KATATONIA‘s finest albums. The CD cemented the band’s reputation as a major force, combining refined metal with doom and gloom angst-laden rock.

To coincide with the shows and the album’s 10th anniversary, “Viva Emptiness” will be entirely remixed and remastered by David Castillo, plus enhanced with new artwork courtesy of Travis Smith, for a re-release on November 4 via Peaceville.

Ipswich, Suffolk, U.K.-based band DEVILMENT, featuring vocalist Dani “Filth” Davey of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH, has entered Grindstone Studios with producer Scott Atkins to begin recording its debut album for a 2014 release.

Comments DEVILMENT: “The work reconvenes in a few weeks time after the drum editing is done and this gives both Daniel [Finch, guitar and keyboards] and Colin [Parks, guitar] time to work together on the improvements made working in the studio for a week of sweltering summer country weather.

“Special guests have been alerted to the time frame and the artwork for the album is already well underway, courtesy of resident (evil) artist Jamie Huntley.”

A five-minute question-and-answer session with Filth about DEVILMENT can be seen below.

Originally formed by Finch back in late 2011 amidst a bout of religious delirium, DEVILMENT consisted of Simon Dawson (STEVE HARRIS, ex-DEARLY BEHEADED) on drums, Justin Walker (13 CANDLES) on bass and Kieron De-Courci (ex-THE VOICE) on keyboards, with the band experiencing a myriad of problems holding down a stable vocalist.

Enter Daniel‘s friend Dani Filth, who, “although not entirely stable mentally,” agreed to help out on a couple of tracks, which then turned swiftly into a studio demo, completed after Dani finished work on CRADLE‘s “The Manticore And Other Horrors” album last summer. The demo, known as “Grotescapology”, featured eight tracks, which, although psychotically competent, were used solely as a backbone for a new line-up when Simon Dawson suddenly departed to record and tour the Steve Harris BRITISH LION album, and the remaining two members agreed that work and distance were conspiring to keep them from dedicating enough time to the band. Fortunately, at this point, destiny sat on a posturing horse, was proud to usher Nick Johnson (bass), Dan Jackson (guitar) and Aaron Boast (percussion) into the fray, three extremely competent musicians who suddenly grew out of the local music scene, and soon the band was at full steam once more and starting to write as a combined unit.

Thus October 2012 to the present day has proved to be a very productive time for the band, with a further five songs written towards a debut album, as well as the refinement of older material that a new, gelatinous lineup has dictated (plus a fistful of cool covers to boot…).

Fans of melodic, progressive hard rock have been waiting a long time for this: “I Will Survive”, the new album by SEVENTH KEY, and the first new CD of studio recordings since 2004’s “The Raging Fire”. Spearheaded by longtime KANSAS bassist/vocalist Billy Greer and guitarist/keyboardist Mike Slamer (ex-CITY BOY, STREETS, STEELHOUSE LANDE), they are joined by drummer Chet Wynd and a slew of special guests.

“I think the new CD is maybe a little bit more hard-edged and a little more progressive,” says Greer, who remains an active member of KANSAS. ” I was also able to enlist my KANSAS bandmate and friend, David Ragsdale, to play on four tracks. That, in itself, added a whole new element to the album.”

Formed in 2001 as a side project for Greer and Slamer (the two had played together in the early 1980s in STREETS with KANSAS vocalist Steve Walsh), SEVENTH KEY released an acclaimed self-titled debut but then went dormant again due to the member’s previous commitments. The group resurfaced in 2004 with the compelling album “The Raging Fire” and a live CD/DVD the following year.

“I Will Survive”, with its prophetic title, re-establishes Greer and Slamer‘s commitment to SEVENTH KEY.

“I wanted to do more music with Mike,” said Greer. “We have a great friendship and we have a strong work ethic. When we get in the studio, things seem to always click.”

Part of SEVENTH KEY‘s musical magic comes in its ability to effectively blend both melodic hard rock and intricate progressive music. They deliver powerful songs and production values that always include big sonic landscapes.

“I Will Survive” is scheduled for release on Frontiers Records on November 1 in Europe and November 5 in North America and will include the following songs:

01. I Will Survive
02. Lay In On The Line
03. I See You There
04. It’s Just A State Of Mind
05. Sea Of Dreams
06. Time And Time Again
07. When Love Sets You Free
08. Down
09. The Only One
10. What Love’s Supposed To Be
11. I Want It All

SEVENTH KEY is:

* Billy Greer: Bass, Lead Vocals
* Mike Slamer: Guitars, Keyboards, Programming
* Chet Wynd: Drums

Special Guests:

* David Ragsdale: Violin
* Billy Trudel, Terry Brock, Bobby Capps, Barry “The Blade” Johnson: Background Vocals
* David Manion: Keyboards
