The boys are back

Amazing scenes as Avenged Sevenfold‘s Hail To The King has been officially confirmed as this week’s Number 1 in the UK album charts, despite some stiff competition.

“It has been a hell of a ride thus far and having our first Number 1 album in the UK is a monumental achievement for our fans and us,” guitarist Zacky Vengeance tells OfficialCharts.com. “I remember playing the 100 Club to prove to our fans we were willing to start from the ground up again to earn your respect. Thank you for putting heavy metal back on the throne. We look forward to growing old with you.”

Congrats to the Avenged lads! We’ll see you in a few months time.

Formed in Sheffield in 2010 in the midst of an alternative scene that had exploded after the success of Bring Me The Horizon (and that has recently seen the likes of While She Sleeps start to reap some deserved praise as modern metal trailblazers), experimental hardcore five-piece Dead Harts are looking to garner some success of their own.

Given their scintillating blend of punk, hardcore and metal and nods to furious, genre-smashing luminaries such as The Chariot, Stray From The Path and Norma Jean, they’ve certainly got the chops for it – but they’re more than aware that they have some pretty stiff competition.

“Where we’re different from other bands is in our live performances,” says guitarist Matt Pask flatly. “I’ve never seen a band who can rival us. We play really simple stuff, but when it comes to our stage presence, we go all out.”

Big words indeed, but as anyone who’s caught Dead Harts live can attest, they’re backed up spectacularly every time the Northerners rip whichever unfortunate stage they’re stepping out onto to shreds.

“I’m 27 now, and it’s taken a long time for our scene to adapt itself to heavy music,” adds Pask (who goes by his surname, FYI) when asked about the surrounding musical influences of his hometown. “But, it feels like heavy music is coming into the mainstream a lot now, especially with Bring Me The Horizon and While She Sleeps. The Steel City is the hub for modern, heavy music, and it’s amazing to be part of that. It’s taken a while, but I think that this year could be the year for heavy music.”

And where do Dead Harts fit into that year?

“We’ll be touring here and probably going over to the US and Canada as well,” Pask muses. Get ready, US!
