As previously announced, this June Neurot Recordings will issue a special three-way split CD in tribute to late American folk music hero Townes Van Zandt in North America, the homage bearing contributions from Scott Kelly (Neurosis, Shrinebuilder, Tribes of Neurot, etc.), Steve Von Till (Neurosis, Tribes of Neurot, Harvestman, etc.) and Scott “Wino” Weinrich (Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, The Hidden Hand, Shrinebuilder, etc.).

As part of their weekly “Wino Wednesday” installment series, today The Obelisk is hosting an exclusive stream of one of Weinrich’s offerings from the Van Zandt homage, in the form of the record’s seventh song, “Nothing,” right here.

Also still available is Scott Kelly’s rendition of “St. John The Gambler” downloadable at this location.

After having performed material by Van Zandt solo and through various collaborations on stage over recent years, on solo releases and more, the aptly entitled “Songs of Townes Van Zandt” brings several songs each from Steve Von Till, Scott Kelly, and Wino together in praise of his deep musical influence on them all. Through a personal contact of the artists, newly-formed label My Proud Mountain was founded specially in order to release this tribute, with Neurot Recordings handling the North American release of the album on June 12th.

Finnish folk metal pioneers KORPIKLAANI will release their new album, Ukon Wacka, in Europe on February 4, 2011 and in North America on February 15, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records.

The track listing for the CD is as follows:

1. Louhen Yhdeksäs Poika
2. Päät Pois Tai Hirteen
3. Tuoppi Oltta
4. Lonkkaluut
5. Tequila
6. Ukon Wacka
7. Korvesta Liha
8. Koivu Ja Tähti
9. Vaarinpolkka

Check out the cover artwork below.

According to the band:

“Ukon Wacka, or Ukon Vakat, is a pagan sacrificial feast from ancient times, on which a special made beer richly flowed. As can be expected from the title, this album has an ancient and very folky feel and is totally in Finnish. To make the lyrics understandable for non-Finnish people, we will add an English description/translation in the booklet as usual. The album consists of 10 songs, among which you will find a song name ‘Tequila’, which is especially written for (and inspired by) our South American fans, with whom we celebrated such hard times, and who welcomed us so warmly, when we were touring in South America. Another surprise is the title song, ‘Ukon Wacka’, in which a special guest features: the famous Finnish singer Tuomari Nurmio! Last but not least features a tribute song (‘Päät Pois Tai Hirteen’) to the Finnish rock band PEER GÜNT, a great and underestimated band. We hope and expect that this album will give you as much joy as we had making it; a big folky feast for all!”
