“Letters To Stallone”, the new video from the Los Angeles-based experimental heavy rock band IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, can be seen below. The clip features live, backstage and road footage compiled from the group’s recent European tour.

“Letters To Stallone” comes off IWRESTLEDABEARONCE‘s third studio album, “Late For Nothing”, which was released on August 6 via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded, mixed and mastered by the group’s guitarist/programmer Steven Bradley at the band’s home studio in Los Angeles. It also marks IWRESTLEDABEARONCE‘s first record with their new singer Courtney LaPlante, who joined the band with only a day’s notice during last summer’s Vans Warped Tour.

Newly recharged with the addition of LaPlante, Bradley and cohorts John Ganey (guitar/programming), Mike “Rickshaw” Martin (bass) and Mikey Montgomery (drums) are set to keep their fans guessing with “Late For Nothing”. While the band’s signature, avant-garde style is well intact on the new album; their style has progressed immensely. By far their boldest and most accessible release to date, “Late For Nothing” rips and roars with blunt force intensity, incorporating their brain joggling breakdowns with a unique blend of electronics, jazzed-out time signatures and break neck riffage.

“The entire album came together as a result of us wanting to do something different,” affirms Bradley. “We didn’t want to make another weird IWRESTLEDABEARONCE album or whatever people were expecting. We set out to make something different and better than anything we’ve ever released. It’s a more evolved version of the band. We explored new styles and genres as well — especially in terms of the more spacey, epic, and beautiful parts. It’s got the most melodic moments of our career as well as the heaviest.”

Featuring the schizophrenic first single “Thunder Chunky”, “Late For Nothing” scales the summit of heavy rock/metal with twelve teeth gnashing tracks that find a happy medium between crushing metal and beautifully orchestrated melody. The album’s opener, “Thunder Chunky”, sets the tone for the album as they slash their way through songs like “Letters To Stallone” that showcases LaPlante‘s incredible balance of full throttle screams and melodic choruses, and “Carnage Asada”, which features a guest solo from the legendary Steve Vai.

“Late For Nothing” track listing:

01. Thunder Chunky
02. Letters To Stallone
03. Snake Charmer
04. Boat Paddle
05. Firebees
06. Mind The Gap
07. Carnage Asada
08. The Map
09. That’s A Horse Of A Different Color
10. I’d Buy That For A Dollar
11. Inside Job
12. It Don’t Make Me No Nevermind

Having completed a triumphant run on this summer’s Vans Warped Tour, CHIODOS has entered the recording studio this week to begin work on its new album. The band has chosen producer David Bottrill (TOOL, MUSE, STONE SOUR) to helm the new record, which will be tracked at Dreamland Studio in Woodstock, New York.

The new CHIODOS album will be released in 2014 through a newly created band label imprint via Razor & Tie. The CD will feature a re-solidified band lineup comprised of founding members Bradley Bell (keyboards, vocals), Pat Mcmanaman (guitar), Derrick Frost (drums), and Matt Goddard (bass) who reunited with charismatic founding frontman Craig Owens (vocals). The album will also serve as an introduction to the band’s newest member, Thomas Erak (guitar, vocals), formerly of THE FALL OF TROY.

Comments Owens: “We’re excited to be working with Dave Bottrill on this new CHIODOS record. Some of the records he’s done have influenced the band and helped us define what we’ve become. MUSE, TOOL and SILVERCHAIR are all at the top of our list, and it’s amazing to be working with someone that’s already been a part of our history, indirectly. So for the next two months, we’ll be hiding out in the woods of upstate New York, in a hollowed out church-turned-studio, creating what is to be the next chapter of this crazy CHIODOS journey.”

Adds Bell: “One of my favorite aspects of being a musician is the experience that comes along with going into the studio. It’s one of those things you can’t really plan for and just have to let the music and relationships take you down their paths organically. To be able to do this with this group of guys is going to be very exciting, and we get the pleasure of working with David Bottrill to top it off, whom I’ve been a fan of for years.”

States Erak: “I personally am excited to start my journey with the band, in regards to songwriting. This album should give me a new area to peruse in terms of guitar work.”

“Apocalyze”, the new album from the Japanese quintet CROSSFAITH — featuring Kenta Koie (vocals), Terufumi Tamano (programming), Kazuki Takemura (guitar), Hiroki Ikegawa (bass) and Tatsuya Amano (drums) — sold around 1,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD, which was released in the United States and Canada through The End Records on September 3, was produced by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, EVERY TIME I DIE, FOUR YEAR STRONG), who also helmed the group’s “Zion” EP.

Koie had this to say about the recording process and CROSSFAITH‘s ongoing relationship with Machine. “Once again, it was great to work with the legendary Machine! He understood us so well after working together last year on the ‘Zion’ EP, and he made sure that we made the best CROSSFAITH record possible. He definitely shared our vision for the future!”

“Apocalyze” track listing:

01. Prelude
02. We Are The Future
03. Hounds Of The Apocalypse
04. Eclipse
05. The Evolution
06. Scarlett
07. Gala Hala (Burn Down The Floor)
08. Countdown To Hell
09. Deathwish
10. Counting Stars
11. Burning White
12. Only The Wise Can Control Our Eyes

In addition to performing at the prestigious Loud Park and Summer Sonic festivals in its native country, CROSSFAITH has played for audiences all over the globe, including at Australia’s Soundwave festival, Belgium’s Groezrock, Vans Warped Tour at London’s Alexandra Palace as well as supporting a diverse set of acts such as MACHINE HEAD, HATEBREED, AUGUST BURNS RED, PIERCE THE VEIL, PARKWAY DRIVE, BLESSTHEFALL, ALESANA and BRING ME THE HORIZON.

CROSSFAITH combines metal, hardcore, samples and electronica to create groundbreaking music that transcends genres. Their 2009 debut album, “The Artificial Theory For The Dramatic Beauty” (Zestone Records), served as the catalyst in Japan; distinguishing the group as a true force and propelling them to the top of their game.

Though many purists may hate to admit it, the amalgam of dance and rock music has been commonplace for many a decade now. But Crossfaith’s arrival has lifted the rave metal genre up a notch and blurred the lines between movements to new and unheard levels. Previously there were rock bands with elements of electronica à la Ministry and Pitchshifter and, as much as fans of heavy music have taken them to their bosom, The Prodigy and Pendulum are definitely dance acts with a rock’n’roll attitude.

The beauty of Apocalyze is its refusal to compromise on either side, sounding as pure and current in dance circles as it would to committed metalheads. While Countdown To Hell starts with a riff savage enough to make Lamb Of God sound tame and sprinkles it with electronics, Eclipse rides along on a huge throbbing synth line that you can feel pulsing through your whole body and layers it with thick guitar grooves. One minute you’re dancing insanely, the next you’re banging your head uncontrollably; these songs will no doubt come into their own during Crossfaith’s dazzling live shows.

It’s a testament to their abilities, nailing an actual song being something that gets overlooked in this genre, that the band sound so far ahead of a game that ran out of gas around a decade ago that they’ve practically reinvented it. Are they ravers or rockers? Who knows? Are they the perfect intertwining of two disparate sounds? No doubt. This is the future.

While She Sleeps: Flying the flag for British metal

Last night (Wednesday August 28), While She Sleeps rocked up to a tiny Vans store on Camden High Street to officially launch the countdown to Vans Warped Tour UK 2013. The result? Fucking bedlam. Here’s what happened…

6.30pm

There’s a massive gaggle of eager fans camped outside the Vans shop along Camden High Street. While She Sleeps are due on in about 15 minutes or so. Hammer is eating a £3 Chinese from the Bang Bang Chicken Man down the round. Everything is going swell.

www.derekbremner.com

6.40pm

We’re let into the store and everyone immediately crowds around the tiny stage wedged into the far corner of the shop. Things are about to get very, very messy.

6.50pm

The fans have flooded the shop floor (and there’s still a fuck-ton left peering through doorways and windows from outside), but there’s not any sign of the band yet. Tensions are rising. Luckily, someone’s passing While She Sleeps cupcakes around. Cupcakes are metal.

6.52pm

Too many cupcakes. Feeling sick.

7.00pm

While She Sleeps run through the crowd, grab their instruments and smash into Death Toll. Bedlam ensues. Loz is already in the crowd. The crowd are on the stage. Oh god everything’s everywhere.

7.05pm

“This is a celebration of life and death!” screams Loz as they plough into a gruelling Dead Behind The Eyes. Loz is back on stage. Mat’s in the crowd. Everyone’s going absolutely nuts. No one seems to be trying to pocket any hoodies either, which is always nice.

7.10pm

This Is The Six draws a monstrously huge reaction from everyone involved – including the people still stranded outside, who Loz happily acknowledges and demands just as much action from.

7.12pm

Mat is on top of the shop.

7.13pm

People are now circle-pitting around Mat.

7.14pm

People are now circle-pitting in the street.

7.17pm

Mat is now also outside and getting carried down the high street like a messiah with a guitar.

7.21pm

“This is the title track from our debut,” snarls Loz. “It’s called This Is The Six.” Cue singalongs and “WOOOOOOAH”s so big they can probably hear them at the Vans store in Oxford Circus. This is madness. Absolute madness. There’s clothes and cupcake and Relentless energy drink everywhere.

7.25pm

Loz is back outside again. We think Mat’s inside. We’re not sure. Fuck knows what’s going on.

www.derekbremner.com

7.30pm

An anthemic Seven Hills brings things to a maddening close. There’s traffic being stopped in the street outside. This is ridiculous.

7.34pm

Within seconds of Sleeps’ set finishing, the band head straight outside to meet all the people that weren’t lucky enough to get in. Cue an hour or so of photos getting taken, fives getting highed and hugs being delivered. What. A. Gig.

SAY CHEEEEEEEEEESE!

8.00pm

We are fucking knackered. Can we do this every week?
