DrugMetal.ru conducted an interview with reformed industrial metal pioneers GODFLESH prior to their August 24 concert at Moscow Hall in Moscow, Russia. You can now watch the chat below.

GODFLESH will release its first new recording in over 12 years through Decibel magazine’s Flexi Series in October. A cover of the track “F.O.D. (Fuck of Death)” by legendary death thrashers SLAUGHTER (Canada) will be included in the subscriber version of the magazine’s November issue (streeting October 5).

In a recent interview with the French radio station Le 106, GODFLESH‘s Justin Broadrick stated about the band’s forthcoming album — which is tentatively titled “A World Lit Only By Fire” and due in May 2014 — “It will be [musically] similar to the first two or three [GODFLESH albums]. I just think, like we’re playing these shows, we feel very pure about we’re doing and honoring the initial intentions with what we originally set out to do. Which, I think, like most bands and musicians and all the rest of it, by the time you get on to your fourth album, it’s somewhat of a dilution going on to what you initially tried to achieve. It will definitely sound aggressive and it probably won’t sound like any of the other records we’ve made, but it will have the minimalism of the first few records.”

Added GODFLESH bassist G.C. Green: “It won’t sound like the first two record; it will be more the spirit… When you make records over the years, you change as people, you change as musicians, you progress, you develop and you take other styles on, but I think, having had a break from it and come back to it, it seems that we’ve gone straight back into what the essence of it was originally, and that’s why it feels good.”

Continued Justin: “It’s getting straight back to the core of what this is all about. And I think having a break from it has probably even more inspired… It’s like refocusing and obviously, we’re somewhat older and wiser. It’s gonna be a really interesting record. It’s extremely minimal and very, very brutal — a fairly unforgiving record, really, I think.”

GODFLESH‘s seminal debut full-length album, 1989′s “Streetcleaner”, was remastered and reissued in a deluxe digipak in Europe on June 21, 2010 and in North America on August 10, 2010 via Earache Records.

“Streetcleaner” was GODFLESH‘s second release, proving to be one of the band’s finest and most recognized albums and helping them to become one of the most influential industrial bands ever. Now “Streetcleaner” was brought up to date as a special expanded version, with all tracks remastered by GODFLESH founding member Justin Broadrick. The album also includes a bonus disc featuring 12 previously unreleased live tracks, alternate mixes and demos, and comes housed in a deluxe multi-panel digipak with detailed liner notes.

METALLICA‘s new 3D IMAX movie, “Metallica Through The Never”, opens this Friday (September 27) on IMAX screens before expanding to more theaters on October 4.

A new video interview with members of METALLICA and the film’s director, Nimród Antal, can be seen below (courtesy of NME TV).

“We decided we needed to make this unique,” METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett told QMI Agency about the “Through The Never” movie. “So we came up with the concept of having a running narrative in the movie that weaves in and out of the concert footage. We liked that idea enough to tell our managers, ‘This is the type of movie we want to make.’”

“I think that METALLICA fans that are really into action films and movies with a lot of energy are going to be blown away,” METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich told Revolver magazine. “This is a very unique film. I don’t know what people are going to think of it. I like it. But obviously I’m biased.”

METALLICA reportedly spent $20 million of its own money to make the film, which was screened at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas this past Wednesday (September 25).

The soundtrack, which features a number of METALLICA classics performed live in the movie, was released on September 24. The two-disc CD came out on METALLICA‘s own label, Blackened Recordings, also in digital and vinyl formats.

The concert sequences for the movie were shot in August 2012 at two shows in Vancouver, Canada and feature a stage containing elements of many of METALLICA‘s previous live productions from the past 30 years.

KidsInterviewBands.com, a video interview series hosted by 7th-graders Olivia and Connie, conducted an interview with Josh Homme and Dean Fertita of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE on September 15 at The LC in Columbus, Ohio. You can now watch the chat below.

According to KidsInterviewBands.com, Olivia and Connie “are active in sports and other activities that typical 7th-graders enjoy. They aren’t sure if they want to make a living interviewing bands, but they are having a lot of fun getting the chance to talk to all the great artists who have agreed to sit down and chat with them.”

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE‘s latest album, “…Like Clockwork”, sold 91,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. Issued on June 4 via Matador Records, the disc follows up “Era Vulgaris”, which opened with 52,000 units back in June 2007 to enter the chart at No. 14. The band’s 2005 offering “Lullabies to Paralyze” registered a first-week tally of nearly 97,000 copies, to debut at No. 5.

Journalist and musician Barbara Caserta of Italy’s Linearock conducted a 30-minute video interview with drummer Mike Portnoy (THE WINERY DOGS, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB) prior to THE WINERY DOGS‘ concert at Live Club in Trezzo sull’Adda, Milan, Italy. Asked what led to his departure from ADRENALINE MOB, the band featuring Russell Allen (vocals; also of SYMPHONY X) and Mike Orlando (guitar), Portnoy said: “I’m very proud of the album I made with ADRENALINE MOB and I think that there was really a great chemistry there; it was a great band. I was definitely behind it. I spent two years of my life developing it and trying my best. But at the end of the day, I came out of DREAM THEATER wanting to do a lot of different things, and I wasn’t ready to commit exclusively to any one band. I had just spent 25 years with one band — and side projects, obviously, but committed to one band. And I said right from the beginning I was gonna plant many different musical seeds and see which grew, and that would kind of dictate where I would go and what I would do. And I spent a good solid two years giving my all to ADRENALINE MOB. But it only blossomed a little; I kept waiting for it to truly blossom and waiting for touring opportunities to come around, which never happened, and waiting for certain things to happen that never happened, so when it came time for them to start to want to do a new record, it’s, like, well, I have five months of THE WINERY DOGS dates on the calendar, so I had to make a decision; I couldn’t be in two places at the same time. Luckily, up until now, I’ve been able to juggle all these different things and make the schedules work out, but finally it came to a head where it’s, like, ‘OK, do I do a record with ADRENALINE MOB or do I tour with THE WINERY DOGS?’ And it’s, like, well, ADRENALINE MOB is not really growing fast enough. I don’t have time to get into a van and play to a hundred people a night for the next ten years to develop this when I have other opportunities and things like THE WINERY DOGS and other things that are offering opportunities and situations that I need to follow through with. So I haf to make a decision, and one shoe had to drop, and unfortunately, it happened to be ADRENALINE MOB.”

He continued: “[They're a] great band, and I would have loved to have done more if they could have worked around my schedule, but I understand that they wanna keep working. So I had to make a decision and THE WINERY DOGS has a lot of buzz and opportunity and possibility and potential, so I didn’t want to not give it a fair chance.”

In a recent interview with Brazil’s “Wikimetal”, Allen stated about Portnoy‘s departure from ADRENALINE MOB: “He’s been, obviously, real busy with THE WINERY DOGS, which is his next band that he’s doing. The truth of it is we wanna keep working, we wanna keep doing ADRENALINE MOB and we don’t wanna wait around for Mike to have the time [to put into ADRENALINE MOB]. And he doesn’t know when he will have the time again, so that’s really what’s going down. Mike Portnoy was asked to be in the band by myself. Me and Orlando had already written all the material, so [ADRENALINE MOB‘s debut album] ‘Omertá’ was completely finished before Mike joined the act. And it’s a bummer, but he’s got his sights on other things, and he’s not gonna stick around. So we wish him the best of luck, but the MOB‘s gotta go on.”

Steve Dallaire of Boulevard Brutal recently conducted a video interview with drummer Trey Williams of Maryland extreme metallers DYING FETUS in Jonquiere, Quebec, Canada. You can now watch the chat below.

DYING FETUS‘ latest album, “Reign Supreme”, sold around 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 186 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at position No. 5 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

DYING FETUS‘s previous collection of original material, “Descend Into Depravity”, opened with around 2,700 units to land at No. 166.

Released on June 19, 2012 via Relapse Records, “Reign Supreme” was recorded at Wrightway Studios in Baltimore with longtime producer Steve Wright (SLIPKNOT, MISERY INDEX). It will feature nine tracks and is “a ‘return to roots,’ with production focused slightly more on slam than in the band’s last few works,” according to a press release. “Thematically, the album is set to be a good old-fashioned piece of social and political commentary in the style of DYING FETUS as we have come to know.”

Commented DYING FETUS guitarist/vocalist John Gallagher: “The last album had some groove in it, but [it] was basically a lot of tech; this one is a return to form of older DYING FETUS albums, so to speak — more modern production, though, of course. Everything’s tight, the sound is crushing, the drums are amazing.”

A new video interview with Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, SEPULTURA) in which he talks about being kicked out of religious school, the death of his father and rocking out with his grandchildren can be seen below.

SOULFLY‘s ninth album, “Savages”, is scheduled for release on October 4 via the band’s new label home, Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The CD was produced by Terry Date, who is known for his work with such acts as PANTERA, DEFTONES and SOUNDGARDEN, among many others. Guest vocal appearances on “Savages” include SOULFLY bass player Tony Campos, CLUTCH‘s Neil Fallon, NAPALM DEATH‘s Mitch Harris, Jamie Hanks of I DECLARE WAR and Max Cavalera‘s son Igor Cavalera (of LODY KONG).

“Savages” will be released as a limited-edition digpack CD, 2LP vinyl and digital download.

The cover artwork for “Savages” was created by renowned artist Paul Stottler, who is best known for his work on SACRED REICH‘s legendary “Surf Nicaragua” cover.

Date previously mixed SOULFLY‘s “3″ (2002), “Prophecy” (2004) and “Dark Ages” (2005) albums, but had never produced any of the group’s CDs.

The drum tracks on the new SOULFLY CD were laid down by Max‘s 21-year-old son, Zyon Cavalera, who joined the band as its touring drummer for its recent rampage through North America.

Zyon previously played with SOULFLY during the band’s tour of Brazil in February 2012.

It is Zyon‘s unborn heartbeat that can be heard during the intro of SEPULTURA‘s classic song “Refuse/Resist”, which appeared on the band’s RIAA-gold-certified “Chaos A.D.” album, released three years before Max‘s departure from the group.

The fifth part of a new video interview with frontman Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven of Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON can be seen below.

SATYRICON‘s new, self-titled studio album was released on September 9 in Norway via Indie Recordings, and in the rest of Europe through Roadrunner Records. The CD, which will be made available on September 17 in North America via Nuclear Blast Entertainment, was produced by Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven and was recorded in Norway, and mixed by Adam Kasper. The effort features a guest appearance by Sivert Høyem, the Norwegian singer best known as the vocalist of the rock band MADRUGADA.

And in this digital age where music is mostly played through computers, a lot of that analog vibe gets lost in translation when you play music through medias like that, but I still wanna do it because there’s nothing quite like it. To me, it just makes everything sound the way it’s supposed to sound — it’s dynamical; the music is alive, it’s not overly compressed, the levels are not pushed. So, musically speaking, it’s a very atmospheric record… This record is full of life. There are a lot of surprises here, but I think it’s gonna be a record that’s gonna help the black metal movement perhaps find a new way for the future.”

Nile: Cairo practice

South Carolina metal behemoths, Nile, wound their way to our shores for the first time in over two and half years to lay customary waste to the UK’s metal hordes.

Daniel Cairns was on sentry duty in Highbury, London, and not only sent back this report, but spoke to lead general Karl Sanders about the perilous effects of modern technology on the ancient arts of death metal demon-summoning. Check out the video and live review below!

EX DEO/SVART CROWN

SVART CROWN [8] are yet another example of just how far ahead of the pack the French are when it comes to extreme metal. They’re clearly indebted to the discordant likes of Deathspell Omega and Celeste, but they’re also adept at throwing in some beastly Gojira-style grooves too, for when you feel like a bit of a dance. There’s a good turnout for them, and their momentum will only increase. It’s a smashing set, and the bass is absolutely devastating, every thump of the instrument, eliciting a rattle in the chest. EX DEO [8] are a more simplistic and much sillier affair, but by god, they’re fun. It’s genuinely difficult to dislike any band when they come out dressed as Roman Legionnaires and sing songs about fighting and battles. It’s like a heavy metal musical version of Spartacus, without the gore and gratuitous nudity obviously, but still. There’s some excellently heavy metal posing by frontman Maurizio Iacono, as he wails stuff like ‘Hold the line’ and ‘You killed my father’. There’s a fantastic response from the Garage crowd, fists bumping in unison.

NILE [9] come out to an intro track that isn’t a million miles away from the theme of ex-WWE wrestler Goldberg, before going on the warpath. Basically, they sound absolutely devastating tonight. Messrs Sanders and Toller Wade know it too, as a giant, shit-eating grin spreads across Karl’s face constantly. They’re excellent on record obviously, but seeing them live is a different matter altogether. Their mummified, balls to the wall, death metal attack is jaw-dropping in its sheer smothering brutality, even invoking a completely un-ironic throwing up of the metal horns. Highlights include a churning, vicious sounding Sarcophagus and Ithyphalic, featuring the unlikely singalong, ‘Anoint my phallus with the blood of the fallen’. Lovely stuff.
