A two-minute video report from NBC 7 San Diego on yesterday’s (Monday, September 16) court hearing to determine whether AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis would stand trial on charges he tried to hire someone to kill his estranged wife can be seen below.

Lambesis will be arraigned on the charges October 22, which is when a date for his trial will be set.

According to NBC 7 San Diego, investigators found a lock box in Lambesis‘ Carlsbad, California home containing “a lot of different quantities” of male enhancement-type drugs, male libido-type drugs and estrogen blocking drugs — approximately 30 to 40 vials along with different types of pill packages. In addition, investigators found more than $12,000 in cash.

Lambesis‘ defense attorney, Tom Warwick, previously blamed Lambesis‘ steroid use for the alleged murder-for-hire plot. He also revealed that Lambesis was going through steroid withdrawal while in custody.

Lambesis‘ attorney said the “gym culture” led to “changes in [the singer’s] physiological and mental status,” with Tim‘s bodybuilding obsession causing him to go from 170 to 220 pounds after first taking supplements, then steroids. “[He] was not the same person. He was irritable and lost God.”

Prosecutors allege Lambesis had twice told a man at a gym that he wanted his wife killed, then met with an undercover detective known as “Red“, and gave the agent an envelope containing $1,000 in cash, photographs of his wife, and the security gate code to her house. He also allegedly told the agent the dates he would be with the couple’s three adopted children, in order to give himself an alibi.

A number of witnesses testified for the prosecution during yesterday’s hearing, including the undercover officer who posed as a hitman. The officer explained that Lambesis told him, “Just to clarify, just so you know, I do want her dead.”

Investigators say the undercover cop operation was staged after Lambesis told a man at his gym at Pure Fitness back on April 23 that he wanted his wife killed. Lambesis was allegedly complaining that she was making life difficult for him, that it was hard for him to see his children and that it was impossible for them to complete their divorce.

“[Lambesis said that] he wasn’t allowed to visit his kids, he wasn’t allowed to see his kids, he wasn’t allowed to take his kids out of the state to go on tour with him, and that angered him,” the undercover officer testified. “And the fact that his wife was gonna get a large portion — up to 60 percent — of his income [as part of a divorce settlement].”

AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis has been ordered to stand trial on charges he tried to hire someone to kill his estranged wife.

At the conclusion of a court hearing earlier today at San Diego Superior Court in Vista, California, San Diego Superior Court Judge Robert Kearney ruled that there was sufficient evidence for the case to go to trial.

A number of witnesses testified for the prosecution during today’s hearing, including the undercover officer who posed as a hitman. The officer explained that Lambesis told him, “Just to clarify, just so you know, I do want her dead.”

Singapore’s nightly news program “News 5 Tonight” has posted a three-minute report on METALLICA‘s August 24 performance at Changi Exhibition Centre in Singapore. Check it out below.

The members of METALLICA gave a press conference in Singapore, just before the band’s first-ever concert in China, where they were asked how they deal with the physical demands of touring after 30 years. Lead guitarist Kirk Hammett said, “I do a lot of yoga. We’re all pretty physical. [Bassist Robert Trujillo] and I like to surf. We just got off a week-long stint in Bali, surfing a lot. You know, it’s important to keep maintenance on the road — eat well, sleep well, and just make sure the engine inside is running well. It’s really important. ‘Cause the last thing I wanna do is drop on stage.”

Drummer Lars Ulrich added, “We have two guys downstairs who take care of stretching us and putting us back into shape — our necks and our arms and everything. They’re among the two hardest-working guys in rock and roll. So we take all that stuff really seriously. I mean, if you could see our [tour] rider, it’s carrots and strange vegetables and nasty fruit juices. It’s not what it was back in the day, thankfully. But yeah, we do take [staying healthy] very seriously. Absolutely.”

Ulrich told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that his main concern about getting older as a musician was whether aging and other issues could eventually take their toll on him. “The thing that just freaks me out is I just don’t know physically,” he said. “‘Jumping Jack Flash’ and ‘Satisfaction’ — sure, I can probably play those when I’m 65. Playing ‘Fight Fire With Fire’ and ‘Dyer’s Eve’ — I don’t know. It’s the unknown. I just don’t know. And if it becomes a joke, or if it becomes just not physically possible to do, then hopefully we’ll have the sense to bow out gracefully.”

Frontman James Hetfield told the press in Singapore, “We’ll do this until we don’t wanna do it anymore; it’s as simple as that. There’s no use doing something your heart is not in. But for us, we love what we do and we’re blessed that way.”

METALLICA is currently in Toronto for the premiere of the band’s new film, “Metallica Through The Never”.

The 3D IMAX movie will make its world premiere on Monday, September 9 at the festival before opening on September 27 at IMAX theaters and expanding on to additional screens on October 4.

METALLICA will also play a special show at the Apollo Theater in New York City on September 21 to promote the release of the film.

Metal Injection correspondent Robert Pasbani has posted a video report from the fourth annual GWAR-B-Q, presented by Ring-Dog Rescue and Slave Pit Inc., and backed up by the fine folks at Brown Distributing. The event took place on August 17 in Richmond, Virginia at Hadad’s Lake Water Park and featured performances by such acts as GWAR, MUNICIPAL WASTE, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, PIG DESTROYER, and the reunion of the legendary X-COPS. Check it out below.

“Battle Maximus”, GWAR‘s first full-length studio effort since the loss of their longtime guitar player Flattus Maximus, is set to hit the streets on September 17 via Metal Blade Records.

GWAR‘s “Battle Maximus” features twelve brand new tracks that not only honor their departed ally, but tells the story of GWAR‘s latest struggle against what may be their greatest enemy yet… the insidious “Mr. Perfect”, who has travelled through time itself to steal the power of GWAR — the power of immortality, and use this power to mutate the human race into his twisted vision of what the “perfect” human should be. Once again GWAR finds themselves as the only thing standing between the human race and the latest super-powered shithead bent on the destruction of GWAR and the enslavement of their worshippers.

ROB ZOMBIE and ex-MARILYN MANSON guitarist John 5 (real name: John William Lowery) recently spoke to Artisan News (see video report below) about his forthcoming solo album, an all-star affair which is tentatively due in 2014.

Rob Zombie is obviously my priority, and everything I do is just when he’s doing a movie or something like that,” he said. “And you know, I never play live with anyone else, I never tour, ’cause I never wanna confuse anyone. I’m just a writer. So as soon as they see a credit — ‘Oh, John 5 wrote on this Ricky Martin song,’ or whatever like that — then that will… So it doesn’t really get in the way. But I love doing my instrumental records and people really enjoy ’em, so I’m always working on those. I’m working on one right now. I’ve got Elton John‘s bass player doing stuff. I mean, I have a bunch of guest stars on this one, so it’s gonna be really good.”

Regarding how his upcoming album will be different from his last effort, 2012’s “God Told Me To”, John 5 said: “The last one was half acoustic, half electric and I always like to change it up, so this one, I’m just gonna have a bunch of guest stars. So I’m gonna start asking my friends for favors and all this stuff. ‘Hey, come on in. I watched your house and I let your dog out that one time, so come play on my record.’ So I’m gonna start my long list of people to come and play. I think it’s fun.”

He continued: “These albums are a lot of fun. I just do ’em for the love of guitar and to inspire a couple of people on the way… I just really enjoy doing that. It’s great. It was one of the smartest things I’ve ever done. Right when I left MANSON, I was, like, ‘OK, so I guess I’ll finally make my instrumental record.’ And it did really well, and I’m on my sixth one. And I don’t do them for money or anything — I just do them for the love of the guitar — and I think the audience really can see that. I’ll do something like a Chet Atkins song and then some crazy death metal-type song. So it’s a very wide range of music; there’s no format and there’s no rules.”
