The boys are back

Amazing scenes as Avenged Sevenfold‘s Hail To The King has been officially confirmed as this week’s Number 1 in the UK album charts, despite some stiff competition.

“It has been a hell of a ride thus far and having our first Number 1 album in the UK is a monumental achievement for our fans and us,” guitarist Zacky Vengeance tells OfficialCharts.com. “I remember playing the 100 Club to prove to our fans we were willing to start from the ground up again to earn your respect. Thank you for putting heavy metal back on the throne. We look forward to growing old with you.”

Congrats to the Avenged lads! We’ll see you in a few months time.

It’s close…but who’s gonna be smiling come Sunday?

Earlier this week we reported that Avenged Sevenfold were set to land their first ever UK number one album with Hail To The King. Today we’ve been informed that current number two album – garage/r’n’b newcomer Naughty Boy’s Hotel Cabana – is making up some serious ground on Hail To The King, meaning that this could be the closest battle the UK album charts have seen so far this year.

With just over a day left, who’s gonna make a little bit of history? Will Avenged hold on? We guess we’ll just have to wait until Sunday to find out…

The boys are back

Avenged Sevenfold release long-awaited new album Hail To The King later this month, and with the much-debated title track suggesting a turn towards more “pure heavy metal”-oriented waters, the guys have made it clear that they’re treading very comfortable ground indeed.

“We really, truly believe in metal,” says M Shadows. “We grew up on the altar of bands like Maiden and Metallica and Megadeth and Pantera, and if bands that are younger could look up to us like that, that’d be the hugest compliment of all time. We want to headline Download. We want to play Rock In Rio. The goals aren’t to have millions of records, it’s to be the top of our game in our generation.”

“Not to sound like a dick, but there’s not a lot of bands that are ready to carry the torch,” adds Synyster. “I honestly feel like we’re that band. When you start a band it’s totally all fun and games, and it’s all fun now, but there’s no more games. We’ve had fun, now we want to leave a mark. Now it’s, ‘Let’s make history’.”

Like we said, they ain’t pissing around. Read more from the band in our immense current issue, out right now:

The boys are back

Avenged Sevenfold frontman M Shadows has discussed the conception of new album Hail To The King in a new interview with Detroit’s 89X Radio. The chat covers the lengthy period the band took from the release of Nightmare to recording its follow-up, the lack of egos in the band and much more.

Have a listen here

Avenged Sevenfold also recently revealed the final and official cover for the album! Check it out…

So, after the somewhat mixed reaction to this:

… which has in fact been revealed as the prototype artwork for the single, which now looks like this:

Avenged Sevenfold have revealed the final and official cover for new album Hail To The King! Check it out…

Definitely different. Do you prefer the OTT, fantasy-themed original art or the back-to-basics, Waking The Fallen/self-titled-esque newie? Let us know, yeah?

Barely minutes after releasing brand new single Hail To The King, Avenged Sevenfold have released the full tracklisting for the album of the same name, as well as announced a US tour with Sacramento legends Deftones and Swedish occult masters Ghost (or Ghost BC, as they’re called across the pond).

The tour will take place this October and kicks off in Chicago, IL on Thursday, October 3, wrapping up on October 26 in Las Vegas, NV. Have a look at the album tracklist below:
