Varg Vikernes

According to numerous reports coming out of France, controversial Burzum frontman Varg Vikernes has been arrested on suspicion of plotting a “massacre”, with his home currently being searched for weapons and explosives and the notorious musician being held in custody.

Report 2

Varg, who served 21 years in prison for the murder of fellow black metal musician Euronymous and has since generated further controversy for his racist views and online rants, is believed to have been amongst a list of names to have received the manifesto of Norwegian killer Anders Breivik, who shot dead 77 people in July of 2011. However, as The Quietus have noted, Varg openly criticised the actions of Breivik, noting, ”To Breivik I can only say I hope you do kill yourself…. you have made a big mistake.”

Seattle’s Ancient Wind has posted the song “Northern Conquest” online, which can be heard below and comes off the “Blackened Battle Metal” EP. Ancient Wind also recently posted the following message online about working on new material:

“Guess we’ll have to cut a full length soon, we have no where to put all these songs. Currently working on our darkest and heaviest cut yet, with 4 new ones on deck. Some lyrics to the new track to spice up your holidays, happy Thanksgiving turkey fuckers. ‘Casting my weapons aside, I stand unclothed and bare. Branches rip the skin as my cries fill the air. Cursing all faiths and gods, Paradise means nothing to me. If redemption held out its hand, I’d cast it into the sea.’”

Silent Leges Inter Arma will see a North American release for the band’s self-titled album on October 30th through Eisenwald Records. The label comments:

“A young black metal band founded 2007 in Rostock, Germany, Silent Leges Inter Arma’s self-titled album is the band’s long-brewing debut full-length. ‘Silent leges inter arma’ was a quote from the Roman politician and philosopher Cicero. Roughly translated, it means ‘Under the weapons the laws keep silent.’

“Silent Leges Inter Arma released their first demo in 2008, and then they got signed by Deviant Records for the release of the debut EP Synästhesie in 2009, which upon release received rave reviews. Several excellent live appearances followed together with Wolves in the Throne Room, Endstille, Todtgelichter, and a tour with Totalselfhatred and Hypothermia.

“Since 2010, the band focused on new material for their first album which could finally be recorded and finalized during 2011/2012. Now compled, this self-titled full-length offers eigth tracks of varied and contemporary black/death metal packed in a natural production. The band represents once more their own unconsumed, ambitious, and honest way of modern European black metal!”

The track listing is:

1. We Are
2. Falcon-Headed One
3. I Will Hunt You Down
4. Beyond The Light
5. Shades
6. For The Dead
7. Wings
8. In Shadows Again
