Ronnie James Dio: True icon

Wendy Dio, wife of the late, great Ronnie James Dio, has commented on the progress of the much-anticipated Dio tribute album that has been mooted about for quite some time now.

“We have a lot of [artists] who are working on [their contributions to the tribute album],” Wendy commented at this past weekend’s Icons & Idols-Rock ‘N’ Roll Auction. “Metallica has already finished theirs for us and Anthrax and Glenn Hughes [have completed theirs as well]. Rob Halford‘s working on it. I think Alice Cooper‘s working on it. Motörhead, [in] January we’ll get theirs. So we’ll have a whole classic CD ready next year, and so I’m hoping to then ask the younger bands to do a tribute to Ronnie as well, so we can do two CDs: a classic one and the younger bands.”

Lemmy And The Boys: Paying Tribute

On which “young bands” she’d like to see get involved, she adds, “I haven’t approached anyone, but who I would pick would definitely be Korn, Avenged Sevenfold… Anyone that’s been influenced by Ronnie or Ronnie’s music, and I think it would be a great tribute and it would be great fun to do, too.”

Avenged Sevenfold: back in 2013!

This sounds like it could be absolutely amazing. Someone get Jonny D and M Shadows on the phone!

Ronnie James Dio: True icon

Wendy Dio, widow to heavy metal legend Ronnie James Dio, has spoken about Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi‘s ongoing cancer battle and the passing of her husband, who lost his own battle with cancer in 2010.

Wendy was speaking after Tony received the King Of Rock N’ Roll Award at the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund’s second awards gala on October 31 at the Avalon nightclub in Hollywood, California.

“Tony was struggling with his own cancer, and hopefully … it’s in remission, which [would be] fantastic,” she told Loudwire. “And that’s early detection again, that was early. Maybe if Ronnie hadn’t passed away, [Iommi] wouldn’t have gotten checked early. We don’t know, but that was early detection, and [the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund ceremony] was great because he’s been through so much this year and to honor him, that was great. And for Geezer [Butler] to give him the award was very, very special. All of honorees are special.”

She added, “We mainly deal with men’s cancers and we find that men don’t get [regularly] checked. Women are very good. Men have to be drug [to the doctor’s office], but we’re trying to make awareness that early detection saves lives and for your loved ones to save their lives by getting checked.”
