San Diego, California death metallers CARNIFEX have completed recording their new album at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Mark Lewis (ARSIS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER, DEICIDE, SIX FEET UNDER). An early 2014 release via Nuclear Blast is expected.

“After a year and half of writing and five weeks in the studio, we are very excited that tracking for the new album is complete,” commented vocalist Scott Lewis.

“Not only is this the best production we have ever had, the depth in each song is beyond anything we have previously written. We combined the best parts of our previous albums with elements and influences we only touched on in the past. This is the album CARNIFEX was always meant to write.”

On the band’s new label home, Lewis stated: “Signing with Nuclear Blast is a career-defining moment for CARNIFEX. To be aligned with the largest metal label on earth is a true honor. This worldwide deal signals a turning point for us as a band and individuals. Together with Nuclear Blast, you will see CARNIFEX like you have never seen us before. Prepare yourself for an album that crushes any and all expectations. An album that will stand as the definitive mark for modern metal.”

CARNIFEX‘s Nuclear Blast Records debut will also introduce new lead guitarist and longtime friend of the band, Jordan Lockrey.

BLACKFINGER, the band featuring former TROUBLE vocalist Eric Wagner, has signed a worldwide deal with Germany’s Church Within Records. The group’s self-titled debut album will be released on CD and vinyl by the end of the year. A full tour in the support of the effort is in the works.

A new BLACKFINGER promo video from Kathy Reeves Productions can be seen below.

As previously reported, Dark Star Records will handle the digital release of the BLACKFINGER debut. The CD, with its many peaks and valleys of heaviness and melancholy, along with Wagner‘s signature vocals, will mark the singer’s first recorded output since TROUBLE‘s 2007 release, “Simple Mind Condition”.

In a recent interview with Metal Assault, Wagner stated about the BLACKFINGER LP, ” It hasn’t been an easy record to do. There were a lot of things that detoured me from working on it, personal things and stuff. I don’t know. I get sick of hearing it and I have to take a break from it.”

He continued: “I’ve been working on it for four, five years. There was the original lineup, which is different from today’s lineup, I blew that one up because it wasn’t working and I went back to writing and recording.

“In the past, we had a producer there, so all I had to do was concentrate on singing and writing lyrics, whereas with this one, I had to do everything. I had an engineer that would give me tones and sounds, but as far as recording, writing and arranging it, I had to be there. Sometimes I got a little sick of it. I had to walk away for a while.

“I’m really proud of it, it’s heavy, it’s dark. Heavier than I thought it would be actually. It’s definitely an album where you sit down and listen to the whole thing.”

“Blackfinger” track listing:

01. I Am Jon
02. Yellowood
03. Why God
04. On Tuesday Morning
05. As Long As I’m With You
06. Here Comes The Rain
07. My Many Colored Days
08. For One More Day
09. All The Leaves Are Brown
10. Til Death Do Us Part
11. Keep Fallin’ Down

Fan-filmed video footage of KING DIAMOND‘s August 9 performance at the Bloodstock Open Air festival, which was held at Catton Park, Derbyshire, United Kingdom, can be seen below.

KING DIAMOND in December signed a new three-album worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records.

After a six-year touring hiatus, KING DIAMOND triumphantly returned to the stage in 2012 for European festivals Hellfest and Sweden Rock.

King, 56, whose real name is Kim Bendix Petersen, underwent open-heart triple-bypass surgery in November 2010. He has since completed his cardiac rehabilitation program and has stopped smoking entirely, changed his diet and is getting regular exercise.

In a February 2013 interview with Metal Sucks, King Diamond stated: “I had to change my diet and become a nutritional expert, eat much better food. I stopped smoking; haven’t had a drag. [My wife] Livia quit, too. We walk at least five days a week.

“I felt the benefits during two shows we did [last year]. My voice is now clearer than when I started singing. It was like always driving a used car and suddenly you have enough money to buy a new car. It felt brand new! That’s how my voice feels.

“I breathe different now than I used to. In the past [when we played live], it would been like [makes a gasping noise]. Now I go off stage and start talking to close friends…. I feel like I used to live in a house with ten windows and now I have twenty windows in the house. There’s so much I can see and I pay more attention to what I do see.

“My philosophy hasn’t changed but I don’t take anything for granted.”

King Diamond made his long-anticipated return to the stage with his MERCYFUL FATE bandmates Hank Shermann, Timi Hansen and Michael Denner on December 7, 2011 at the second of four intimate shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco as part of METALLICA‘s week-long celebration of its 30th anniversary as a band for fan club members only.

KING DIAMOND received a Grammy nomination in the “Best Metal Performance” category for the track “Never Ending Hill” off the group’s latest album, “Give Me Your Soul … Please”.

“Give Me Your Soul … Please” entered the Swedish national chart at position No. 28. The CD also landed at No. 58 on the Danish chart (the second highest new entry on the chart behind VELVET REVOLVER).

“Give Me Your Soul … Please” sold 4,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 174 on The Billboard 200 chart.
