SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor last year joined the cast of an upcoming horror film called “Fear Clinic”. The movie began life in 2009 as a five-episode series for the web site FearNet.com. The series starred Robert Englund, famous for playing Freddy Krueger in “A Nightmare On Elm Street”, Lucas Till from “X-Men: First Class”, Danielle Harris of “Halloween 4” fame and Kane Hodder, best known for playing Jason in several of the “Friday The 13th” movies.

The first teaser trailer for “Fear Clinic” can be seen below.

Englund returns in the film to his lead role as Dr. Andover, a fear doctor who treats patients afflicted with crippling phobias by inducing hallucinations inside his exposure therapy invention; The Fear Chamber.

The series, which focused on a different phobia every episode, reached over five million hits on FearNet.com. It has since been added to On Demand, YouTube and Hulu.

In the film, Taylor plays a clinic employee named Bauer who struggles to keep things under control when all hell breaks loose. The movie centers around one traumatic event that induces phobias in a group of different people.

“Fear Clinic” is scheduled for a Halloween 2014 release.

Taylor told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that he was more interested in screenwriting than acting. “I have no aspirations to really get into acting, you know,” he said. “I mean, it’s something that — I’ve always wanted to write for movies, you know, I’ve always wanted to write a screenplay and I’ve written a couple in the past and what not. But yeah, if it happens, it happens, you know. It’s not something that I pursue.”

Taylor and fellow SLIPKNOT member Shawn “Clown” Crahan have their own film production company called Living, Breathing Films, although to date the company has yet to announce or produce a movie.

Crahan is reportedly set to make his directing debut with “Officer Downe”, based on a graphic novel.

Ashley “Lux” Elzinga of the 105.7 The Point radio station in St. Louis, Missouri conducted an interview with SHINEDOWN guitarist Zach Myers. You can now watch the chat below.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Loudwire asked Myers what SHINEDOWN has coming up next on its schedule after this summer’s Carnival Of Madness tour. Myers said, “We’re going to go home. Brent [Smith, frontman] has to rest his voice. He’s not allowed to talk during the day right now. He’s on vocal rest… We take these weeks off, then go to the U.K. We’re only going to be there for eight days.”

Also on the agenda is the possible release of a collection of covers that the group has recorded, with Myers saying, “I’m not sure what’s going down with that. Originally we were just going to release it on YouTube, which you don’t need permission for, obviously, because people do covers on YouTube every day. But I believe fans really want it as a download . . . Now we’re going to release it as an EP with just Brent and I. I believe it will come out during the holidays.”

The Carnival Of Madness tour, which also features SKILLET, PAPA ROACH and others, finished up in Puyallup, Washington on September 18.

SHINEDOWN has been on the road steadily since the March 2012 release of its fourth studio album, “Amaryllis”.

On August 25, Premier Guitar‘s Chris Kies was on location in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he caught up with SHINEDOWN guitarist Zach Myers and bassist Eric Bass during the 2013 Carnival Of Madness tour. In the 35-minute segment below, Myers talks about his dozen PRS models — including some that were built by Paul Reed Smith as birthday gifts — and switching from a five-amp rig to a simplified Axe-Fx II setup. Bass talks about his signature Dean Hillsboro models and why he prefers to use a solid-state Dime guitar head for his distorted tones.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Loudwire asked Zach Myers what SHINEDOWN has coming up next on its schedule after this summer’s Carnival Of Madness tour. Myers said, “We’re going to go home. Brent [Smith, frontman] has to rest his voice. He’s not allowed to talk during the day right now. He’s on vocal rest, same as Jacoby [Shaddix, PAPA ROACH singer]. So there are two singers out here who aren’t really talking a lot. It’s kinda nice. [laughs] We take these weeks off, then go to the U.K. We’re only going to be there for eight days.”

The official lyric video for the song “Over The Top” from Finnish metallers BATTLE BEAST can be seen below. The track comes off the band’s self-titled sophomore album, which entered the official chart in the band’s home country at position No. 5. Released in Europe on May 17 via Nuclear Blast Records, the CD was produced and mixed by the band at JKB Studios in Helsinki and mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios. The cover artwork was created by Claudio Bergamin (HALFORD, ARJEN A. LUCASSEN, MAGICA).

Comments the band: “Over the top — words to live by! This song perfectly sets the tone for our upcoming metal crusade next month.

“We’re stoked to get back on the streets and tour with all these great bands [POWERWOLF, MAJESTY, ASHES OF ARES and WISDOM]. It’s gonna be fun, it’s gonna be metal and it sure the hell is gonna be OVER THE TOP!! See you all next month!”

BATTLE BEAST last fall parted ways with lead singer Nitte Vänskä and replaced her with Noora Louhimo.

In an interview with Metal Divas, Noora explained how she ended up fronting BATTLE BEAST: “Last September (2012), I got a call from Anton [Kabanen, guitar] that they want me to join BATTLE BEAST. I had heard their music and loved the sound and the vocals, so the next day I called Anton and said I’m in.

Anton found me by accident on YouTube when he was searching for the new vocalist. He had been looking for a vocalist — male or female; [it did not] matter. The only thing that mattered was can that [he or she could] sing his songs without compromises.

“I’ve been singing since I was 4 years old. While being a huge fan of heavy metal of ’80s and a teenager, I had some classical singing lessons when I was 16 years old. Then at the age of 19, I started studying music in pop/jazz line. At the same time, I started doing some jam sessions at bars. There I found my first band (ADMIRAL OCTOPUS) in the blues bar. We used to play rock and blues music from ’60s-’70s and Janis Joplin was the reason I got the rasp in my voice. After ADMIRAL OCTOPUS, in 2011, I took part in a singing competition (‘Wanna Be A Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’) at Henry’s Pub of Tampere and won it with Janis Joplin‘s ‘Piece Of My Heart’. That’s how my single ‘Relax’ was born.”

BATTLE BEAST‘s debut album, “Steel” — which was originally released in Finland in 2011 via Hype Records — was made available internationally on January 27, 2012 through Nuclear Blast Records.

German power metallers RUNNING WILD will release their new album, “Resilient”, on October 4 in Germany and October 7 in the rest of Europe via Steamhammer/SPV.

An audio snippet of the song “Bloody Island can be streamed in the YouTUbeRUNNING WILD mainman Rolf “Rock’n’Rolf” Kasparek has come up with twelve storm-proof numbers, ten of which are scheduled for release on the regular CD. Two bonus tracks and a poster will be included on the limited version of the album.

Kasparek was working full throttle on this new album since February 2013. Due to his intense involvement with GIANT X, his band with guitarist Peter Jordan, Rolf had consciously taken a break from RUNNING WILD and has now resumed work with the band with zest and lots of new ideas.

“The break was important and extremely refreshing for me,” he explains. “I felt that renewed vigor as soon as I started writing the material for ‘Resilient’, tracks such as ‘Fireheart’ and ‘Soldiers Of Fortune’ just came pouring out of me. The dynamic pace of ‘Soldiers Of Fortune’ in particular kicked off a whole avalanche of creativity in me.”

Rolf explains that “Resilient” is audibly tougher and more compact than its predecessor, “Shadowmaker”, clearly enjoying his revived zest. “‘Shadowmaker’ happened to come about slightly unexpectedly and spontaneously, even for me,” he says. “The album has brought back the fun I used to have with RUNNING WILD, and my fans will get to feel this fun when ‘Resilient’ comes out in October!”

The album’s opener, “Soldiers Of Fortune”, and the title track, “The Drift” and “Run Riot” will be three typical RUNNING WILD numbers. The most outstanding song on the album, however, is called “Bloody Island”, with almost ten minutes playing time one of the longest tracks in RUNNING WILD‘s career to date. Rolf says: “As a composer, it’s, of course, difficult for me to pigeonhole the new material stylistically, but friends who have heard the demo version of ‘Bloody Island’ claim that it would have fitted in on ‘Pile Of Skulls’.”

In terms of lyrics, there are the familiar fusillades that we’ve come to expect from RUNNING WILD: “Bloody Island” and the bonus track “Payola & Shenanigans” see Rock’n’Rolf criticize the curse of greed that we’ve seen specifically in the European banking crisis of recent years. “Crystal Gold” is about the obviously politically motivated privatization of drinking water, and “Fireheart” and “Run Riot” are warnings to RUNNING WILD‘s fans to be confident of themselves and vigilant towards authorities. Rolf says: “For me, that’s the attitude which stands for that true rock’n’roll feeling.”

“Resilient” was produced by Rock’n’Rolf himself, supported by Niki Nowy during the mixing and mastering process, as well as Katharina Nowy and Peter Jordan, who contributed a number of guitar solos. For the first time, Rolf worked with precise vocal lines during the demo recordings.

“The targeted use of lyrics and vocal melodies during the demo stage was new for me, but it worked out really well and I’ve never gone to the studio as well prepared as I did this time around,” he says. “I didn’t have to try and test things but only had to put a few finishing touches to my singing at the studio. A definite advantage!”

As to whether RUNNING WILD will present this brilliant album live on stage. Rolf says: “We’ve had a lot of festival offers for summer 2014, which we will look at carefully. We’ll know more in a few months’ time and will inform our fans as soon as we’ve made up our minds.”
